I am sorry to hear that about one of your dogs, but I am sure it was by
accident, as horses kick eachother all the time and don't think a thing about
it, well maybe not all the time but they certainly endure most contact without
much ill effect. I do hope your little mare is playful well into her adult
life, as it does make for more entertainment when you aren't able to ride. I
never see my older mare play and my youngest one is such a loner in the fields,
she will come running to play with me but sadly none of the horses. She usually
stands with my draft gelding in the field if she has to have company but that
is only when she is in season, not anyother time. My gelding, well he is such a
hoot that I will never be bored with him. He is always playing or eating, not
much down time for him. I rode him with some friends yesterday and he was in a
mood to race and kept trying to get opportunities to bump into the other horses
rear sides and take off. He even squeeled once when he wanted to get the other
horse going. He hates to go in quarter horse walks on the trail and I love it.
I know one day he will get older and feel more like me with the social and
visual part being more fun on the ride than the yahoo part of it. He is 9 and
still acts like my teenage boys.

That's cute!! My horses sometimes enjoy running the
fence with the barking dog, too. I think they would
bark back if they could!

Oh Judy, Charm and Riddari would have so much fun together. Do you
think she could actually clear that fence?

Yes. We've had horses and dogs for 44 years and had only one horse/dog
incident, but it was a fatal one. The kids' wonderful pony kicked my even
more wonderful greyhound. She went flying through the air and landed on
some large rocks I had used to outline a flower bed. The resulting spinal
cord injury eventually caused us to have to put her down. We weren't mad at
the pony, but I still miss the beautiful and graceful dog.

I think she wanted to go on the other side with the dogs, she was
definitely interested in their response to her running back and forth
past them, what would she do if they were in the pasture area with her
 to play with?<<<

We had a dog, in the past, who was kicked by a horse and dropped dead at my
feet, so the dogs are not allowed in with the horses.

Beau, the multi-colored dog is ours and generally never bothers with the
horses, but Junior, the tan dog, belongs to our daughter and is visiting.
He's the instigator and doesn't know that the horses could kill him in an
instant.

Cookie doesn't pay any attention to the dogs, but Charm is young and easily
influenced, I guess. I suspect in a few years she won't bother noticing
them.

Cute. Simon the setter really enjoyed the dog-barking part.

Wow! She's flying. I hate it when they time it so closely at the fence.

She's very athletic. I don't think ours have done that much cantering
total in the 8 months we've had them here.Of course, they do live on the
side of a mountain. I'm about to move Tosca up the road a bit where Hunter
boards so I'll have the benefit of a round pen and a riding arena. It looks
like she will be sharing a large pen with Lina, our friends' Icelandic mare
who has become very fat on very short irrigated pasture.
