On distributed systems, performance can be degraded only due to tcp/unix

Re: [Ilugc] Hi

2008-08-11 Thread shan

Hi,

Thanks for your suggestion meendar.
Let me explore that and get back to you.

I used unix sockets since there is no single point server in the
architecture. So all the client must know complete information about the
nodes in the cluster. And more over there is not much sync between the
nodes in the cluster. The communication is always between the client
(which requests for the data) and not among the data instances.

Since the data is sharded we can not have joins on the data and if we
require join support we will have to sync with other nodes in the
cluster and then i think the event/poll will be of great use.

At present i classify the requests into node-level and cluster-level. In
node-level queries only one data instance is pinged and requested for
data and in the cluster-level queries all the nodes are pinged and the
aggregation of results is done at the client end.

Let me know if my reason is correct.

No problem with using unix sockets, since we don't have any other way.
But the wait for socket connection can done with select/poll, this can
cost on performance. so i suggested for libevent. It is event
notifiction system. This Api will watch for the events occured and
notify you, this supports epoll, kqueue in unix systems which is almost
faster than normal select/poll.

However if your systems don't create much socket descriptors , you can
go for select/poll. I didn't walkthrough all of your code, may be you
don't sync often. I guess distributed systems might use of large number
of sockets for synchronizing itself with the master/slave, or send send
to the client. So i suggested this one.

+1

Libevent abstracts the best possible IO multiplexing system possible on
any OS -- epoll, kqueue, /dev/poll, etc -- and makes your code faster,
cleaner and more portable.

If nmask is indeed a program then man/info on respective item should

You have static IP? Then you can set the IP, gateway, netmask and DNS
in system-config-network. Atleast here in Mumbai, hathway now provides
DHCP so my internet is configured out of the box, even though I have a
static IP.

You must reinstall GRUB, the bootloader on the MBR after installing
Windows. Try using Google to find help.

Problem with your firewall and nat rules. Firewalls need an ftp helper
vm run in order to handle ftp statefully.

Try switching your ftp client between active and passive ftp modes and
see if that helps.

That command is for the Red Hat based distributions. In Ubuntu, enter
the following command:

$ sudo /etc/init.d/mysql start (or restart or stop...)

Good.

Keep attending interviews looking for ads in newspaper and elsewhere and try to
 move through contacts.

But you need a resume. There are some good resources in the Internet that help
 you with resume design.

Essentially you should focus on your skills and projects and
educational background.

Make it short and sweet and write in flawless English and pray to God.

Best of luck.

Touch screen is mostly a matter of hardware. If you build a web application
/ use an existing suitable free software app and slap a skin on it, you got
what you wanted. But if you asked me, frankly, I would be wary of employing
someone who claims to have done such a project. Why not something real /
challenging?

This mostly means your mysql server is not running. The exact method will
depend on your distro, but in general,

/etc/init.d/mysqld start

would work.

In your case you can check certain things
1. Are you sure. is it mysql server had already installed in your system. If
so try to start it again.
if it is fedora based distro say
service mysqld start
others
/etc/init.d/mysql[d] start

then you can try the mysqladmin command

2. If you had not installed mysql server then you could install
yum install mysql-server for fedora distro's

apt-get install mysql-server for debian or ubuntu

[d] is not required when you use debian you can simply say /etc/init.d/mysql
start

Sorry for the top post.

Search online for unetbootin. It can convert most ISO images into a boot
able usb stick. Change your BIOS settings to boot from usb.

You can also check the ubuntu manuals for alternate boot and install

You are missing the fact that top posting is not a sin.

Sometimes when you are busy you do that.

I have done that many times.

It is not as sinful as people imagine.

If you want LUG to get responses from busy people responsible for
businesses and so on(the people that know what they are talking)
then you have to put up with some inconveniences like this.

Well, I'm coming to the point exactly what you're talking about but the reply
adds
some flavor like privately owned approach to the list. What I was trying to say
in
my previous note we need to be more practical to all level of folks joining in
this list.
It's not something I'm forward on something today than others and follow things
which may
no where related to sin or any other related terms. It's all about how our own
protocols being
followed or keep the things simple as it as. More over, it may well reasonable
piece (quote from
your reply) and I've no where near to that but I'm bit puzzled though.

Although I have never used browser on my mobile phone, I would imagine
it is not as convenient to edit the messages to look trim and proper
(as from a desktop or laptop).

Perhaps this was the case. To some degree I agree with Girish; we
should not get too bent on rules and start missing valuable
information. It happened to me way back where the moderator
rejected my answer to a question that was posted on one of the ILUG
mailing lists.Unfortunately, no one else had a clue to the OP's
problem and it remained unanswered.A private email to the
moderator turned into an acerbic rant about posting rules and I signed

I find top posting as annoying as everyone else, but in my situation
it's either that or no response at all.

Problem is that smart phone email clients (GMail app on Nokia
E series, and Android) do not permit you to edit the quoted reply.
It's not a question of convenience either, top posting is the only
available option.

that is out right rude, and possibly you are missing a lot of people
and information there. But, yeah I do agree that top posting is no
good, but if that is the only option then apologising before doing it
is fine I guess.
And unfortunately there is more top posting in this thread that in any
other I have seen in the recent times on the ILUGC list.

I do not think it is rude - if you look at mailing lists, you find that the
best, well thought out, well formatted posts always come from people who are
extremely busy. In fact I often wonder how these people manage to do this -
they must be working 25 hours a day. The sloppily formatted posts come not
because the person is busy, but because the person has too high an opinion of
himself and does not care about the feelings of others.

we conducted one workshop there about 3 years back - the staff was very
supportive - and we regularly conduct workshops in Sri Krishna college. So if
your staff members can contact me offlist, we can arrange something - local
