[Ilugc] Does mod_perl work with Apache 2.4

2014-11-19 Thread Ganesh Ranganathan
Hi,

I installed Apache 2.4 from source on a Centos 6.5 machine (Default binary
in the repo is for version 2.2.15)

But I am not able to load mod_perl on the installation. Has anyone made
mod_perl work with Apache 2.4? Any suggestions will be highly appreciated

Thanks,
Ganesh

This is a LUG mailing list and we do not suggest non-free, proprietary
software here. So do not suggest proprietary software here.

And before you send your next mail to the list, I would recommend you go
through the mailing list guidelines available as a link in the footer of

The best option is to run GNU/Linux on a VM. If that is not
possible, you can give MobaXterm[1] a shot. It is a single executable
that has most of what we need, including an XServer. It is GPL

Hi

Use cygwin http://www.cygwin.com/

Cygwin/X is a port of the X Window System to the Cygwin API layer for the
Microsoft Windows family of operating systems. Cygwin provides a UNIX-like

Why do you want mail to go thro' squid proxy?

I am not knowledgeable there but I think that mail need not go thro' a
web proxy
 like squid.

Why don't you talk directly to the local mail server?

What is the specific problem you are facing?

Also the tone and expectation of your mail is not in line with reality.

First of all your question is too generic and you have not given enough data to
 help you out.

Secondly the tone is not something that can attract many replies.

Best of luck.

Look up www.tldp.org for Transparent proxy howto. This will enable you

Dear sirs,

IMHO, the speakers should decide how best to approach the session
since they see them as the expert, not your point of contact.

 SK

This is exactly the reason - the person will be in touch with ILUGC
(and who ever wants to participate in this - when it comes !!) - for
good script and if possible any video clippings which can be shown /
used (with due permission from the owner, etc). This will (I want it
to be) be one more step for FOSS introduction to students / and any
user of Computers.

The first step is to get :

- a good Spot in a TV channel (when every channel is fighting to
show Serials!!)
- some sponsors for this show
- even the name of the serial will be debated a lot
- and what not !!

Dear All,

I have a friend in chennai - who is now doing 'serials' for Jaya Plus
Raj TV (generally 'pattimandrams' and other simple ones).

I had discussed with him - about 6 months back, about doing a 20 to 30
minutes 'serial' on FOSS FOSS related ones. since he was busy and i
have come back to mumbai - did not proceed much.

After meeting people in SFD 2011 - at IIT Powai, Also, since now many
students are going to get 'Laptops' from TN govt, a new audience (if
we can call them) may be enticed to see (and get benefitted) a series
of FOSS related things in TVs.

Though this may take a lot of time to even start (finding 'slots' with
TV, finding 'sponsors', finding 'topics', getting approved, finding
'Hosts', etc), my only question is 'WILL IT WORK (not only
commercially but also 'in the best interest of all').

If he goes ahead - he will be in touch with most of you (who are in
chennai), to make this into a shape.

- need your unreserved remarks - without any bias.

If this is not even treated as a 'topic', I will not take this personally.

Yes, It will work !!
Provided you do not confuse audience with FOSS and Other Tech Terminology.
Just do a plane Tech Show like gadget guru or other where you devote 60%

This will definitely work, depending on how the program is designed. My
suggestion would be NOT to go deep in to technological aspects, but to
provide a story line on FOSS, its history, and comparison of day to day
softwares in proprietary open source. Since many people would be in some
way using computers, we have to start from common people's mindset. Like
how licensing costs affect business, and why pirated software may lead to
legal issues etc..

We can best use these TV time slots to create a perspective, opinion, and
subtle understanding of open source and FOSS among common masses.

If such TV program materialises, it will be a boost to open source
technologies.

Senthil

Dear Sirs,

Yesterday I spoke to this chennai person:

- he says he can get first - a spot for 10 to 15 minutes - mainly in Jaya Plus.
- this spot will be for 1 days / week
- after seeing the response he will get for every day (if needed)
- he feels to start with how students using the TN Laptop better
using all the tools
- it may start with Microsoft (1 or 2 episodes) - and then PAN into FOSS fully.
- he will be in touch with most of the ILUGC people, who would want to
give simple scripts and also anchor (which may or may not be
commerically)

As soon as he gets this spot, I will ask him to get in touch with one
of the ILUGC members (who can introduce others if needed whenever
necessary) - not disturbing everyone's time always.

In the meantime i feel let me not waste other's time in replying to this topic.

 Hi Guruprasad,

Yes, i encountered the same problem few months back. The following command
works for you :) , and it configures also alsamixer so no need of manual
work.

 alsasound start

In my case the following command did the work,

 /usr/local/etc/init.d/alsasound start

And add this to the start-up script so your sound will work fine every boot
