Re: [ilugd] Linux equivalent
Hey Guys I have used Quark Express & Adobe Pagemaker on WIN Platform & using SCRIBUS on LIN platform from past around 4 months. My experience says that what we get on WIN platform thru above mentioned applications...we get much more on LIN through Scribus... So according to my opinion anyone who wants to switch to Quark Express on LIN platform should definitely go for Scribus firstPLS Neeraj Arora, Director-QUANTUMS 9899 85 99 37, http://geocities.com/speedy_neeraj On Wed, 10 Jan 2007 13:31:31 +0530, "Sudhir Gandotra" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> said: > On Wed, 2007-01-10 at 07:49 +0530, Sudev Barar wrote: > > > Any one here comment on if quark express has an linux substitute? The Huwaei cards distributed by tata indicom works just out of the box without any issues. All you have to do is configure wvdial to use /dev/ttyUSB0 as the serial modem for dialing out. In open area, i get speeds around 140kbps. Is there a USB solution for this or is it only pcmcia. [ilugd] 'Area 11' wiki initiative
Hi, I have created the Area 11 wiki page at: http://www.lug-delhi.org/wiki/Area11 This information is useful for: * organizing local area meets. * coordinating advocacy in an area. * approaching schools/colleges in an area. * distribution of pamphlets. * helping people within your locality; installation, for example. If you do not wish to give your mobile number that is ok. Suggestions welcome. ILUGD already has this information for all its members (provided they keep it updated) on the linux-delhi.org member information. Now that the data is in database, wouldn't it be better to just give it a better interface for searching with concerns for privacy addressed? Of course, we might have to add more fields in member area to provide for locality etc. - Sandip ___ ilugd mailinglist -- ilugd@lists.linux-delhi.org http://frodo.hserus.net/mailman/listinfo/ilugd Archives at: http://news.gmane.org/gmane.user-groups.linux.delhi http://www.mail-archive.com/ilugd@lists.linux-delhi.org/

We only want information to be available, that can be edited and maintained easily. Whether it is wiki or a database interface, doesn't really matter. Also, 5000 odd members are shown - if we go by chennai poll, only 5% would be active members - 250? Sounds high. So culling from the database would not be of much help. Unless a locality field is added to the db and members are requested to fill in the locality field. Most of them would have forgotten their passwords anyway - so I think the wiki would be easier. What would give a filip to the idea is if at least *one* local group appeared which started meeting in a tea shope 2-3 times a week. -- regards Kenneth Gonsalves Associate, NRC-FOSS [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://nrcfosshelpline.in/web/ ___ ilugd mailinglist -- ilugd@lists.linux-delhi.org http://frodo.hserus.net/mailman/listinfo/ilugd Archives at: http://news.gmane.org/gmane.user-groups.linux.delhi http://www.mail-archive.com/ilugd@lists.linux-delhi.org/

There is a 'street' field too, but presently not searchable. Searching for 'Shahadara' does get a list of 5 members, so it works too:-) I am looking to upgrade ILUG-D CMS system (which has much better search, in addition to many other goodies :-), but have stumbled on an unforeseen issue. I developed the upgrade on my home PC which has mySQL Ver. 4.1.11, whereas the one on ILUG-D host is 3.23.44. Since changes are more than just a few, I was hoping that it would be easier to upgrade mySQL. However, Raj is understandably very busy, and there are probably other systems on that host that access mySQL, and need to be coordinated with the mySQL upgrade as well.
