Re: [ilugd] linux.in status

2009-08-17 Thread Kishore Bhargava

How about we restart with linux-india.org (I can put up a wordpress or a
drupal there) and see, over a period of 6 months or so, whether the
community is actually capable of maintaining it or not? If we are, we
can start moving the process to retrieve linux.in too.

If you put in Wordpress/Drupal, I volunteer to be editor and get things
going. Once started, we would need more volunteers but I can certainly
commit to starting it off!

Ya saw that fews days ago and it seems that M$ has learnt from the mistake
and now the search results are more authentic.

It might be true that they are tainting the search results and I don't know
if that's legal or not but unless the user is being harmed by such results
then we all can accept it as part of illicit marketing practices that most
of the monopolist organizations try to follow with M$ leading the race :)

How about a wiki instead of Drupal or Wordpress? Having a wiki will be
easier

Well I am ready to contribute for any of these.

Sounds like a good idea. If anything is needed infrastructure wise, I
could help. Beyond that, I think it might be worthwhile putting down
some points as to what the target should / could be. There are a few
people offering to help with content as well, if there is some direction
we could have people take over responsibility for different things.

One thing that I would love to see is a newsletter or a summary of
'stuff' linux related, perhaps done monthly. Another would be a
directory of regional resources that new linux users could be pointed
at. Perhaps a 'blog' like resource that allows people to post articles
into, and a wiki would be good ( for things like howto get online with
the various isps' in the country, configs and other tips etc ).

Even if we can get 10 - 12 people, contributing an hour or so per week,
there is much that can be done :)

[ilugd] Mounting drives in Ubuntu.

2009-08-17 Thread Suraj Swami
Hi,

I am using Ubuntu 9.04. I have recently started facing a new problem.
Whenever I start my computer. Other than the basic home folder no other
drivers gets mounted automatically. I don't even know how to do that. But I
found a work around solution using Beagle search. I get to see these drive
when I look for search preference in it. And then I mount those drive.

Hence even when I insert a pen drive I face a similar problem.

I even face problem when I try to open Computer from the tray below. it
shows the following error.

Could not display computer:.

Nautilus cannot handle computer locations.

What changes do I need to make.

Thanks in advance.
