Now what I want is to know is there any way by which I can save a copy

Is there any solution by which I can do this using POP3?

2008-02-02 Thread Niraj Sahay
CTOSummit: A unique event that discusses Open Source related business
opportunities

Dear Sir/Madam,

What's happening in the Open Source space? Is this growth for real or is
it just another bubble? Are Indian IT firms benefiting from this
phenomenon too? How? Why?

These questions will be answered at the CTOSummit happening on the 12th
of February 08, at The Taj Westend.

Sample of speakers at the CTOSummit: Brian Behlendorf, Co-founder Apache

Co-founder, Knoppix. Speakers from Novell, Ingres, TCS, Satyam, Intel,
Microsoft, and many more IT firm, will be participating in the

Inspired from the Open Source Business Conference (OSBC), which is an
annual event in the US, the CTOSummit should be an excellent opportunity
for you to discover the business and economics of open source, interact

India Week (OSIW), which was earlier known as LinuxAsia. Both, CTOSummit

like Electronics For You and LINUX For You. The earlier four LinuxAsia
were held only in Delhi, but this year the event has expanded into three
cities: Bangalore, Mumbai and Delhi.

Few facts related to the business side of Open Source:
·MySQL just got bought by Sun Microsystems for UDS$ 1 Billion.

·Ingres and SugarCRM are expected to go IPO this year, and despite
being open source firms, they are the darling amongst tech investors and
analysts.

·Indian IT giants, like Satyam and TCS, have started releasing open
source projects.

·Many SME-IT firms have witnessed growth of over 100-percent in the
last three to four years, while working in the Linux/Open Source space.

[ilugd] [Commercial] Why not enroll in FOSS India Awards?

2007-11-13 Thread Niraj Sahay
Hi,

Are you working on any free software or open source (FOSS) project? Do
you know anyone who is?

There's a great opportunity for all Indian FOSS contributors to showcase
their work at the national level, and perhaps global too! Plus, the
development team (or individual) can get a minimum cash prize of Rs 25,000!

But, there's more to it than just cash prize. The winners will get
exclusive coverage in LINUX For You magazine, and openITis.com (aka
linuxforu.com). Which in turn could mean: (a) more media coverage for
the project and its developers, (b) publicity amongst targeted
customers, and (c) more contributors getting attracted to the project.

Launched with an initial kitty of Rs 5 lakhs, the FOSS India Awards aim
to recognise India's top 20 FOSS projects. The LINUX For You team is
working with FOSII (Forum for Open Source Initiatives in India) on this
venture.

The registration for FOSS India Awards is FREE! All one has to do to
register is to visit http://www.openitis.com/awards/ and fill in the
two-minute form. Registration for FOSS India Awards is open till 15th
December '07. The awards will be announced during Open Source India Week
(aka LinuxAsia 2008) during the 2nd week of February '08.

Please do forward this message to anyone whom you believe is working on
a FOSS project, and is a good candidate.

Let's prove to the World that India contributes to FOSS too...

Best Wishes!

[ilugd] Share Your views with LINUX For You

2006-12-04 Thread Niraj Sahay
Hello All,

Greetings from the LINUX For You magazine team!

As you all know, we run a section called 'Opinions' in LFY where we pose
a question to the community and industry and publish the responses
(selected by our technical editors) in the magazine. Thanks to all those
who responded to the last month's question. The best among the responses
received have been published in the December 2006 issue of LFY.

The forthcoming issue of LFY would carry a story on the following:

Is the war really against Microsoft?

The article would focus on whether OSS world is actually fighting
against proprietary software at an ideological level. Or is it that it
remains a battle against Microsoft? We would like to focus at the
various levels on which this antagonism between the open source
evangelists and believers on proprietary software shapes up. Is the
discontentment against Microsoft only to the extent of patent issues? Or
that Microsoft is just a mere player, while the FOSS community is
fighting at the much higher level of psychology...

We value your suggestions and comments. So, any idea you would like to
share with us is most welcome.

Please write to us at [EMAIL PROTECTED]
mailto:sujata.banerjee%40efyindia.com with a CC to

2006-11-01 Thread Niraj Sahay
Dear Readers,

With the Fedora team, as usual, pushing the release date of FC6 again
and again (before finally releasing it on 24th and it getting available
for download on 25th), we were left with no option but to go for the
next most requested distro on the bulletinn board - Mandriva Linux 2007.
This distro is a treat for users who like to work on multi-architecture
platforms (32-bit and 64-bit).

Coming to the editorial highlights, we have a mega interview with Javed

after stepping down from his position of director - India. In the trends
section, this month we discuss about the use of Linux in tghe
supercomputing world.

We have two very interesting case studies this month, one that discusses
the first mover advantage taken by Samsung by incorporating the
'Linux-compatible' logo in their printer advertisement and the other
about Bombay high court adopting Linux/OSS.

In our opinions section, this month, the community opines on how whether
IPR is a boon or a bane. Also, in the 'Down Memory Lane' series, we look

a very happy Dussehra and Diwali to the whole community.

This month, LINUX For You has bundled another 'hugely-requested' distro
DVD with it - CentOS 4.4 - which many believe is the closest one can get

On the editorial front, we have a mega story on the trends in Linux and
open source usage in the mighty Banking, Financial Services and
Insurance (BFSI) sector of the Indian industry. Along with this, we have
our regular hardware focus on 'Linux Laptops' and software focus on
Linux based High Performance Computing Solutions.

Under the opinions section, this month, the community opines on how
India can develop a community of open source developers and thus become
a 'net-giver' to the open source world. Also, in the 'Down Memory Lane'

2006-06-15 Thread Niraj Sahay
Dear Member of the LUG,

TuxHeroes are those individuals (or teams) that have successfully
handled the challenge of migrating their firm/institution to Open
Source/Linux environment.

LINUX For You magazine attempts to highlight the accomplishments of
these TuxHeroes with the help of a monthly feature dedicated to them. In
the process, we'll also share the experience and knowledge gained by
TuxHeroes with the rest of us.

If you are one (or know someone)—send us the contact email-id. We'll
contact the heroes (and heroines), and request them to share their
experience with all of us.

To submit any info regarding TuxHeroes, send an email with subject
titled 'TuxHero is Here' to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] with a Cc to [EMAIL PROTECTED] We will
revert with a few questions, request for a couple of snaps, and make
sure the heroes and heroines are given due credit of their achievements.

FAQs about TuxHeroes can be viewed at www.linuxforu.com/tuxhero/faq.htm

Regards!
