Er, a Knoppix upped to Debian is hopelessly broken by definition. I wouldn't blame LiVES. On a standard Debian (and possibly other) system LiVES installs and runs with no issues at all. Movies don't play well, jerky; and images jitter when enlarged. I have Intel GMA 950, which is ok with Ubuntu as well as Debian Etch. Yes I did try dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg, but no use. If you have your debian etch settings replace your current xorg.conf with that one. (If not replace with maybe one generated by a knoppix live CD). Exact small tweaking may be needed. Better to take these two shortcuts. I have the same card on etch too and it works fine. I have tried almost all of them. That's why I am asking which one is stable enough to do serious editing. Kino is not at all good for someone who has worked on FCP. It's like asking a Ferrari driver to try bicycle... Blender...hmmm good for 3D guys...but not for pure film editing too much there. .is there anything that is really good enough for serious work? Anyone here take a shot at authoring classic game style SFX with MIDI ? i haven't done sound-tracks for gaming yet, but last year i did author, as in design the sounds, compose, arrange, mix-down, and produce music that got used commercially in a short film, for some US-based project. all of this done using ubuntustudio and 100% foss tools. a few years ago also did a sound-track for a film-documentary on ecology, using both analog sounds and music i played, as well as some synthesizer music through analog recording. regards niyam Just wondering... feel free to mail the group OR send me a unicast mail if thats more appropriate.
