TLDP[1] is a good reference point for documentation on GNU/Linux. The
guides[2]
available at TLDP are also quite good. No ideas about any printed book, though.

Hi,

In my opinion there is nothing like to learn in Linux, It`s a
Operating system that everybody use to run his/her computer.

Best way will be downlading ubuntu iso , installing it and install
applications which you use daily, There are nearly all software
alternative available on linux.

If you can`t find some alternative, Post your queries on mailing list.

I'm not starting any distro-war here but mentioning download any Linux

Hi,

I am glad you want to learn.
what i always suggest to people:
 1) go to a book shop
 2) collect some books on 'Linux' you find 'attractive'
 3) open those books, try to read a few pages
 4) choose a book you find easy to understand and appeals to you senses.

I have a lovely book, though a bit old, you might like to have a look
at:
A Practical Guide to Linux
by Mark G. Sobell
published by Addison-Wesley.

and there are always millions of other linux users who will gladly help
you with any queries.

hope you learn quickly,
niyaz

Please do not purchase this book , I do not suggest this book,,
for a beginner of Linux , book should contain

* Part 1
** How to install Linux
* Part 2
** How to use Linux
Basics of command (no need for deep learning of vi , shell and other
stuff)
 Office Use
 Productivity usage
Handon with GUI (KDF , GNOME)

I would better suggest like
** If you are going to use Fedora /Ubuntu
*** go for any of these Complete reference type of book
*** http://www.amazon.com/Linux-Complete-Reference-Sixth/dp/007149247X
*** http://www.amazon.com/Fedora-Core-Red-Enterprise-Linux/dp/0071486429/
*** http://www.amazon.com/Ubuntu-Complete-Reference/dp/0071598464/

I have seen many Incomplete user/learner who easily get frustrated with
linux just because they do not know how to learn it,

Normally user install linux box and join some forum and start asking each
and every silly doubts on forums or otherwise they will waste time and
internet bandwidth to search on many useless forum and fix it. many newbies
do not know what exactly is the problem or how to describe problem ,, --
they only say this is not working,,

(I am not saying these are bad habbit, But i am advising new bies to spend
money on book and trainig first.)

i have seen that nobody will make a effort will to read books or join
coaching.
dude everything is available in books and very systematically,

unlike BUS or AUTO, Linux is a horse or Yamaha bike, you need to learn it
first. just like ABCD. Best way to get some training from any linux center.

Install Linux,. get good books, and if possible join training or some
certification,
also attend workshops and bring your doubts ,,

True. People never joined a training program or purchased books for their
darker days with Windhus...so why Linux. Also, gone are the days of
Slackware when it used to take 6 hours to just listen to your first song.
Today, it's a matter of minutes to get a linux system up and to start
working on that presentation you have to give the next day.

Best way will be downlading ubuntu iso , installing it and install
applications which you use daily, There are nearly all software

Although, this list tries hard to keep itself from any bias, however I don't
think mentioning a distro is that bad. If somebody from Ireland asks you
about a good Mughlai restaurant he would like to go and try, you don't start
explaining him how an ideal mughlai restaurant should be and tell him to go
and find one similar to your description. Rather, after your short lecture
on mughlai you recommend him a restaurant he can go and try. So, personally
i don't think recommending distro's is bad. Ofcourse, those recommendations
have to be backed by convincing reasons which was visibly missing here. But
i believe given a chance Mr. Mishra will present his reasons.

If you can`t find some alternative, Post your queries on mailing list.

Always, welcome...but do google before posting.

Smruti
