.....Upgrading G3 memory

2009-11-08 Thread thomas head
I am trying to get my G3 to recognize two new sticks of 512. They are
out of an identical machine and I have followed all the instructions but to
no avail. Is there a secret to this thing that I have missed? I'm running
10.4 as is the machine they are coming out of. I'm feeling pretty damn
stupid right about now:( Any suggestions at this point may just save my hair
and/or my sobriety:) Thanks...

What Color/version is your iMac G3? Some of them can handle 512 while others
can only handle 256

Re: .....Upgrading G3 memory

2009-11-08 Thread Ashgrove

Thomas,

Leave your hair alone, although enjoy your drink by all means...:-)
Apparently these behemoths are not always capable of recognizing
memory modules of 256Mhz and up, even if they are the right ones.
Check their profile in LEM and related articles.

Although, IIRC, the very first slot-load model could only be upgraded
to 512Mhz, and the following models could be taken to a full gig. I
might be wrong, though. Time to hit everymac.com!

Re: .....Upgrading G3 memory

2009-11-08 Thread Ernie Chorny

Thomas -

My 450 MHz slot loader DVD iMac G3 will recognize either of my two 512
mb memory modules in either slot but if both of them are put in (in any
order) it won't boot until I press the button on the side with the
little triangle on it - then it comes up fine and I can check that it
shows 1 gb of ram memory.

I'm running OS 8.6 - like to hear if anyone has a solution.

Ernie
