How can I boot from cd and install fresh over the previous admin acct? I really do not wish to dig in there and extract the HD. Is it asking for a password when you attempt to boot from CD? If it is then the Firmware password is active and changing the HD won't help. You need to reset the Firmware Password. To do this open it up and remove one memory stick then start up and do a PRAM zap (hold down Command-Option-P-R just after starting up). Basically by removing (adding or moving will work) some memory you are telling the boot process you have physical access to the guts of the machine and therefore you have the authority to remove the password. If it isn't asking for a Firmware Password then it sounds like you may have a problem with your CD drive. Have you tried holding down the option key at boot? VGA is analog, so not your best choice. DVI and HDMI are both digital. Both will give you a great signal. I don't think there's any difference in quality between them. HDMI is used for HD TV's because it also carries high-quality sound. -Elliott On Oct 13, 2010, at 9:16 AM, Ashgrove wrote: could anybody kindly explain to me which connection would give me the best quality image, and why? -- You received this message because you are a member of the iMac Group, a group for those using Apple iMacs and eMacs. Re: Youtube is faster with HTML 5?
Basically I want to make my point here. All of my G4's I tested so far (even my 400Mhz sawtooth) plays youtube HTML 5 better than my G5 iMac plays it on flash. My sawtooth plays it so well with it's specs, I can comfortably watch my 15 funny Apple ads video without it freezing or buffering or even having to worry about using an older system. In fact, My sawtooth is amazing on HTML 5 youtube. I feel as if it's slightly less obsolete now =) Now my G4 sawtooth can embarrass my G5 iMac and my i7 MBP in a way that I thought wouldn't be possible. My sawtooth plays HTML 5 youtube better than my iMac plays flash youtube. Also, my Sawtooth embarrasses my i7 MBP because my sawtooth is more than a DECADE older than my MBP, yet it still keeps up a good performance fight! I guess than I can say this: For youtube, all you need is a 400Mhz PowerPC G4 processor, a good amount of RAM, and a good video card, and you'll be sailing on wind. Because if I can get a 12 year old sawtooth to run Youtube smoothly, I am pretty sure any machine after that can at least do as good. I don't wanna brag about machines you guys may not use anymore, but hey, I invested over $1500 in my sawtooth since i got it on christmas of '09. I gave it 2GB of RAM, a 250GB HDD, a 128MB ATI Radeon 9800PRO and my sawtooth pays me back with smooth performance. Now you see, no matter how old your mac is, it'll be of use and it'll pay you back one day if you invest in it and if you treat your mac with respect. -- You received this message because you are a member of the iMac Group, a group for those using Apple iMacs and eMacs. Re: DVI, VGA, or HDMI?
Excellent feedback! Thanks! I actually checked those resources first, but it was a case of TMI for a very specific question. So I gather that DVI and HDMI should be roughly equivalent in my case, with a possible edge from using faster HDMI. Is that right? My iMac has an ATI Radeon X1600 with 128Mb of VRAM, with a Mini-DVI port. Every computer I have used FrontRow in, when you get into Movies, it shows a link to Your Movies Folder. I wonder what format your movies are in, or if you have a Movies folder where the system is looking for it --your user account. There might be ways of customizing it, but they all must involve heavy Terminal intervention, since Front Row has no GUI for customization.
