Re: eMac with blank HD won't boot from CD

2015-07-04 Thread Deiniol ap Deiniol
Possibly the CD drive is not working: I have several eMacs, and the combo
drive in my 1.42 sometimes works and sometimes doesn't and just spits out
discs when it feels like it!. FWIW my Intel 1st generation MacPro tower
seems to have a similarly flaky DVD drive. If you have other Macs, try
installing from them with your eMac in target mode, using a firewire cable.
I'm replying direct rather than through the forum as this never seems to
work these days.
Good luck, Dan.

Re: eMac with blank HD won't boot from CD

2015-07-01 Thread Alex Santos
I once had an eMac, it was purchased new and was stock that was meant for
the educational market, it did indeed ship with a CD, not a DVD drive. So
indeed you should check. If you flip the optical door toward you carefully,
you will find some text, this text, if I remember correctly, does display
whether the machine has a DVD or CD installed.

If you do burn a CD try burning at the slowest rate to ensure a good burn.

To boot from a CD/DVD, hold down the c key. Not option-C

Are you sure you have cd's? If they are dvds they may not work (I think
some of the emacs shipped w/ cd drives vice dvd drives.) To check drive
installled open drive door and read specs.

Re: eMac with blank HD won't boot from CD

2015-06-29 Thread Christopher Satterfield
You should be able to force it with OpenFirmware, I've done it off a USB
drive for my TiBook.

Try following the instructions here:
http://hints.macworld.com/article.php?story=20101011105729488

Rather than using usb use whichever the CD drive is, but instructions
should be pretty much the same.
