Hi! Thanks to everyone for the info with Skype -- I downloaded it today
and will play around with it in the upcoming weeks.

My question for today -- for those who use JMC: do you run the SQL
version? This is supposed to deal with some of the others currently
using message if I recall correctly. As I get ready for next year --
anything special I need to run that? Currently I just have a computer
set up with WebStar (old!) and run the basic district app.

Pros/cons of each?

Thanks!
Jackie

We have been using JMC SQL since July. We have had great results with
it. Not having the system lock up like it did with the District
program. I just set it on the same server and have been satisfied.

Re: [info-tech] JMC/SQL ?

2010-01-21 Thread Lance Lennon

Jackie,

I procrastinated too long on the MySQL. Had the info converted, and
had an issue with MySQL. (Turns out on PPC XServe running 10.4.11
Server, you have to manually turn on MySQL)

I am going to move to it this coming year.

I would recommend an Intel Based Server Class Machine running 10.5.x
or 10.6.x that way you have the latest MySQL and all its bells and
whistles, plus the intel infrastructure running a machine designed to
be run 24/7.

Hope that helps

If you are looking to purchase a new machine for JMC I would purchase a
Windows Server. I was up to JMC over the Christmas break and we were
talking about the new Web based version of JMC. It is being developed with
the .NET tools, and as such will require a Windows server to run, or at
least running on a Windows Server OS.

If this is true I am going to blow my stack. How certain are you about
this? Because I would seriously consider switching out of JMC if I had
to buy a windows server and had to start messing around in .NET. As an
aside until the magic new version comes out, a windows server,
serving out to mostly macs leads to heart ache from what I have heard.

 Jackie,

I procrastinated too long on the MySQL. Had the info converted,
and had an issue with MySQL. (Turns out on PPC XServe running
10.4.11 Server, you have to manually turn on MySQL)

I am going to move to it this coming year.

I would recommend an Intel Based Server Class Machine running
10.5.x or 10.6.x that way you have the latest MySQL and all its
bells and whistles, plus the intel infrastructure running a
machine designed to be run 24/7.

 Hope that helps

It is in development now, that is really all I know. I expect that when
they are ready there will be a few districts chosen to use the Web version
the first year before it is generally available.

They are working on it in for the web version, not web access to the
regular version. Will still run on a Mac and run well at that.
