[info-tech] google domain question

2010-11-17 Thread Johnson, Vicki

I have a question about the google apps domain. I have some students
that are grayed out in the groups that I put them in. How do I get
them to be bold like the others? I see nothing wrong with their
accounts. I get the same thing if I delete the student and wait five
days to reenter him.

RE: [info-tech] Student Health

2010-09-24 Thread Johnson, Vicki
We were using Student Health Management from Marshalltown and chose to
use JMC's health module since we only have one nurse for the district.
This way our secretaries can record vistis, etc.

We've never had a solution here, and it's turning into a real problem

you get parental permission? And so on. Just what is your policy and

Hi! Thanks to everyone for the info with Skype -- I downloaded it

My question for today -- for those who use JMC: do you run the SQL
version? This is supposed to deal with some of the others currently
using message if I recall correctly. As I get ready for next year
-- anything special I need to run that? Currently I just have a
computer set up with WebStar (old!) and run the basic district app.

Pros/cons of each?

Thanks!

Anyone still using HP CLJ 4500 or CLJ 4550. I have some Premier brand
toner cartridges for sale very cheap.

We lost our last printer and replaced it with a 4700 so the cartridges
do not work.

I have the following QTYS

Black - 4

Cyan - 4

Yellow --- 4

Magenta 4

I also have one genuine HP cartridge (Magenta) for the same printers

This is crazy Lance's toner special. Make an offer

2008-01-18 Thread Johnson, Vicki
I have heard rumblings of a possible state wide SIS, but I do not know
how the state would be able to finance such an accomplishment. I filled
out a survey last fall on the data collection process through EASIER.

If we had a different system, how would we all get the training to make
sure it worked efficiently. I hope things go slowly and many people are
involved in this decision making.

Just a thought- I learned the hard way When you order, there
is a little box that you have to check in order to get the email
confirmation. (Just adding the email does not do it.) And if you
have more than one email address, it has to be separated by semicolons, not a
comma.

Off the tech base, and not wanting to use the C word, but what does
everyone do in regard to high school social studies requirements?
Number of years? Required courses? Do you require Economics? Do you
have a consumer economics as an alternative . . .? Any help would be
beneficial--I am in a social studies curriculum (the only
time I'll mention it) meeting right now . . .Trying to get ideas
what is out there. If you could pass this on to the appropriate person,
I would greatly appreciate it!

We require 4 years of Social Studies: 1 year World History, 1 year US
History, 1 year Government, 1/2 year world credit and other elective.
FYI . . .

Enjoy the day!

Subject: [info-tech] Remote Backup Service Eval

I am looking at providing a new service to districts and would like your

input. Would your district be interested in a Internet based backup
service
to backup critical district files off site. I have found tools that
would
backup files from your networks to a server housed at the AEA. The data
is
compressed and encrypted before being transmitted over the Internet.

The main benefit to this service gives you an automated off-site backup
to
be used in case of a disaster. I would expect that participating
districts
would backup their student information systems and other important data.
I
would not expect this service to replace local backup of equipment and
files, but provide an extra layer of protection.

The client software is Windows based, but has the ability to backup any
network connected drive the Windows system can access. To participate
you
will need a Windows workstation, but the data to be backed up can be on
the
Windows, Mac, Novell, or Linux server.

I am looking at installing an evaluation version of the software on a
server
here in Fort Dodge. If you would like to participate in this test let
me
know and we will setup the client software at your district and
configure it
to backup. If the test is successful and there is interest from
districts I
will work on what the pricing will be for the service.

If you are interested in this trial please contact me to make
arrangements.
Please feel free to contact me if you have any other questions as well.

RE: [info-tech] PageMaker 6.5 Problem Continued

2004-10-26 Thread Johnson, Vicki
I found when we use PageMaker 6.5 on XP machines I have had to give my
users power users right. I set up a class such as yearbook in active
directory and list all the students that will be in that class. Give
yearbook power users rights and that should do it. It has helped for
me. Yeartech also has some ideas for rights under its help tab.

Settings on both Win98 and the XP machine are the same - standard
resolution, but the XP machine won't bring up the pictures.

I tried the most recent update to 6.52 PageMaker and I can't see any
evidence that it installed at all. Ran the .exe file, and something
seemed
to happen, but no way to tell.

Jostens isn't recommending InDesign at this time. Software is too new.

I'm about ready to reformat the hard drive and reinstall everything from
the
start to see if something got installed wrong.

I may also upgrade to PageMaker 7 on all 3 machines.

Any more ideas would be appreciated.

B. Ney - N. Kossuth

Drill down file--preferences
There is an option that allows you to bring up your graphics in
three modes, grayed, standard, and high resolution. I'd imagine it's
in the first one. InDesign is the next in the series for Pagemaker,
doubt that it would work with 98 unless you have tons of memory.

(No cracks allowed about 'if this was on a Mac...' I'm a Mac die-hard

Anyhow, we just got a new Sony VAIO with XP Pro and 1 GB of RAM for the
yearbook class. We loaded PageMaker and Year Tech, and it loads pages
EXTREMELY slowly. Pages created on the Win98 machines will load
quickly
and
accurately on those machines, but in addition to being VERY slow will
only
load gray boxes rather than the actual digital pictures on the XP
machine.
My yearbook teacher is ready to trade her new VAIO for an old machine
with
Win98 just to have a machine that works.

The machine works great with other software. I tried adobe.com today
to
try
for some on-line tech support, but the web site won't load at all in my
office in Bancroft.

HELP!! The yearbook teacher is my wife, and I need to get this fixed!
If
the answer is to upgrade to a newer version of PageMaker, that is OK,
as
long as it is compatible with the older machines.
