[info-tech] Web site
I have been trying to learn HTML, ASP for our website. I want something that is more user friendly than ours is. It was set up several years ago and there is one student here that knows the whole thing and I am trying to learn. We are thinking about going out to a website service. Could you give me feed back as to what you do for your website and who your service is with? RE: [info-tech] Remote Backup Service Eval
Scott Our district would be interested, but we need to know a cost. Vicki Johnson HS Tech Associate Prairie Valley Comm School 1005 Riddle Street Box 49 Gowrie, IA 50543 515-352-5540 [EMAIL PROTECTED] -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Scott Fosseen Sent: Wednesday, November 10, 2004 3:28 PM To: Info-Tech Subject: [info-tech] Remote Backup Service Eval I am looking at providing a new service to districts and would like your input. Would your district be interested in a Internet based backup service to backup critical district files off site. I have found tools that would backup files from your networks to a server housed at the AEA. The data is compressed and encrypted before being transmitted over the Internet. The main benefit to this service gives you an automated off-site backup to be used in case of a disaster. I would expect that participating districts would backup their student information systems and other important data. I would not expect this service to replace local backup of equipment and files, but provide an extra layer of protection. The client software is Windows based, but has the ability to backup any network connected drive the Windows system can access. To participate you will need a Windows workstation, but the data to be backed up can be on the Windows, Mac, Novell, or Linux server. I am looking at installing an evaluation version of the software on a server here in Fort Dodge. If you would like to participate in this test let me know and we will setup the client software at your district and configure it to backup. If the test is successful and there is interest from districts I will work on what the pricing will be for the service. If you are interested in this trial please contact me to make arrangements. Please feel free to contact me if you have any other questions as well. _ Scott Fosseen - Systems Engineer -Prairie Lakes AEA http://fosseen.us/scott _ Not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted. - Albert Einstein _ --- [This E-mail scanned for viruses by Declude Virus on the server aea8.k12.ia.us] - Archived messages from this list can be found at: http://www.mail-archive.com/info-tech@aea8.k12.ia.us/ - --- [This E-mail scanned for viruses by Declude Virus on the server aea8.k12.ia.us] - Archived messages from this list can be found at: http://www.mail-archive.com/info-tech@aea8.k12.ia.us/ -
RE: [info-tech] PageMaker 6.5 Problem Continued
I found when we use PageMaker 6.5 on XP machines I have had to give my users power users right. I set up a class such as yearbook in active directory and list all the students that will be in that class. Give yearbook power users rights and that should do it. It has helped for me. Yeartech also has some ideas for rights under its help tab. I tried the most recent update to 6.52 PageMaker and I can't see any evidence that it installed at all. Ran the .exe file, and something seemed to happen, but no way to tell. Jostens isn't recommending InDesign at this time. Software is too new. I'm about ready to reformat the hard drive and reinstall everything from the start to see if something got installed wrong. I may also upgrade to PageMaker 7 on all 3 machines. Any more ideas would be appreciated. B. Ney - N. Kossuth Drill down file--preferences There is an option that allows you to bring up your graphics in three modes, grayed, standard, and high resolution. I'd imagine it's in the first one. InDesign is the next in the series for Pagemaker, doubt that it would work with 98 unless you have tons of memory. (No cracks allowed about 'if this was on a Mac...' I'm a Mac die-hard in a PC school.) Anyhow, we just got a new Sony VAIO with XP Pro and 1 GB of RAM for the yearbook class. We loaded PageMaker and Year Tech, and it loads pages EXTREMELY slowly. Pages created on the Win98 machines will load quickly and accurately on those machines, but in addition to being VERY slow will only load gray boxes rather than the actual digital pictures on the XP machine. My yearbook teacher is ready to trade her new VAIO for an old machine with Win98 just to have a machine that works. The machine works great with other software. I tried adobe.com today to try for some on-line tech support, but the web site won't load at all in my office in Bancroft. HELP!! The yearbook teacher is my wife, and I need to get this fixed! If the answer is to upgrade to a newer version of PageMaker, that is OK, as long as it is compatible with the older machines. Brian Ney N.
