RE: [info-tech] iPAD and 1-to-1

2010-01-28 Thread Lance Lennon

As with any school initiative especially a 1:1, you would never want to go
into it without proper investigation. It may be that the iPad is a
perfect fit for some schools in a 1:1 it may never be a fit in any matter
at other schools.

Apple has a long standing tradition of combining all the necessary tools
to integrate technology into the schools, but you pay a premium price for
their equipment.

I do not want to get into a platform war, but I personally will probably
get a couple of iPads and see how they work and what they can really do.

More apps will come, and the product will go through a ton of revisions,
but I still use my gen 1 iPod Touch and I know many people still use there
Gen 1 2 and 3 iPods. It is all about what works in your district, how it
is implemented and of course supported.

All things considered, especially the Iphone, you know, the end all beat all of
all things everywhere and everywhen until people actually start using it and
find out it doesn't do half the stuff they want without continuing to pay for
more stuff that they shouldn't have to, and even then they have to tell
themselves they are paying for image and that it's worth it at twice the price
even if they can't make a phone call with a phone

I don't hold out a lot of hope for the new Icrap.

That's just my opinion.

Although with the web access I suspect that can be accomplished with Google
Docs (Not that it is a real great replacement). This may also be a reason
to make sure you get "Digital Rights" when (ok IF) you purchase new
textbooks. With 10 hour of battery life, solid state drive, I could see
that it has some potential.

Jason and I have been discussing an education device at the time the Kindles
came out. What the iPAD offers hits most of our discussion points.

Although I am still waiting for the iCAR version that would replace my car
radio/GPS.

All it would really take is a good plan for integration into the
curriculum and, as Chad said, a PO. Ideally, though, I'd want to see
Apple expand their deployment and management tools to accommodate the
iPad (and the Touch, as long as we're on the subject). Do that, and
it's cake.
