[IRCA] Puyallup, WA Ultralight TP's for 12-13
Hello All, There was another halfhearted sunrise enhancement this morning on the high band, similar to the effect two days ago. The same four high band Asians (1503-JOUK, 1566-HLAZ, 1575-VOA and 1593-CNR1) once again took turns producing anemic audio from 1530-1600, with 1566-HLAZ the best of the lackluster bunch with fair to good religious music for a few brief seconds around 1548. As usual none of these high band diehards could manage more than a few seconds of decent audio at a time, and also as usual this month, the low band Asians were missing in action during sunrise enhancement. During predawn darkness around 1500 some moderate carriers were on 594, 603 and 972, but these weak signals never stuck around for the sunlight. A pretty forgettable morning overall, but at least the high band is showing some mediocre signs of life. 73 and Good DX, Gary DeBock (in Puyallup, WA, USA) 7.5 loopstick Tecsun PL-380 Ultralight + 12 Medium Wave FSL antenna ___ IRCA mailing list IRCA@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/irca Opinions expressed in messages on this mailing list are those of the original contributors and do not necessarily reflect the opinion of the IRCA, its editors, publishing staff, or officers For more information: http://www.ircaonline.org To Post a message: irca@hard-core-dx.com
Re: [IRCA] Puyallup, WA Ultralight TP's for 12-13
If you have a recording of 1503 Gary, listen again. I think that I was hearing R Taiwan International in Thai there today (was logged here last season about this time) but maybe not7445 didn't seem to be parallel, but neither did 594 on a quick listen. I'll have to go over the recording tonight. Off to work now... best wishes, Nick At 16:18 13-12-13, you wrote: Hello All, There was another halfhearted sunrise enhancement this morning on the high band, similar to the effect two days ago. Derek, I sent the clip featuring KSMX to a friend who works there and we're not sure who the background station is bured under KSMX.. we think it's possible it may be an ad and not a station id.. but it sounds liek a legal ID. I get something like WEZH out of the first one, and something like KCAG out of the second. Not much close enough on either of them that I can see. That probably rules out any real chance of the first one being call letters then. I wonder if the second one might be KTHE-WY ? That's the only call remotely close to what I'd thought I'd heard. What does 12450 have to do with it being a K Call? 12450 is a zip code in NY. KTHE is reportedly silent... well, they filed for special temporary authority to go silent 6 months ago, it was never granted..but it doesn't mean they didn't go silent and come back on. I couldn't identify either one. Here in So Cal at night I hear KNRY, KJOP, KSUE and KSMX depending on conditions. I heard KNRY a couple nights ago playing Christmas music. Re: [IRCA] Puyallup, WA Ultralight TP's for 12-13
If you have a recording of 1503 Gary, listen again. I think that I was hearing R Taiwan International in Thai there today (was logged here last season about this time) but maybe not My 1503 audio this morning was far from energetic, Nick, but there was some apparent mumbled Japanese, with the usual NHK1-type interval music thrown in. I'm pretty sure that it was JOUK, but of course as soon as I hit the record button, the signal took the customary crash dive. Now that I know that there might be another possibility on 1503, though, that frequency will get far more attention here. Because of a semi-local on 1560 (KKDZ), 1557-Taiwan has never made it through the splatter-- so RTI on 1503 would be very welcome. 73, Gary -Original Message- From: Nick Hall-Patch n...@ieee.org To: Mailing list for the International Radio Club of America irca@hard-core-dx.com Sent: Fri, Dec 13, 2013 8:27 am Subject: Re: [IRCA] Puyallup, WA Ultralight TP's for 12-13 If you have a recording of 1503 Gary, listen again. As usual none of these high band diehards could manage more than a few seconds of decent audio at a time, and also as usual this month, the low band Asians were missing in action during sunrise enhancement. [IRCA] New Catches and UN'id
I was beginning to think of giving up, but stayed on the dials for a bit longer, I have an old radio with analog dial and I logged one station somewhere in the 1200's and after 930PM, it sounded like a gospel program and mentions of towns like Oakville and Brampton. What station is this? Power/pattern? (Disclaimer: I know near zilch about Canadian radio stations). Around 9:52, in the 1200's on the dial, I heard a weather forecast with an Oldies 102.9 jingle and mentions of a winter storm warning with snowfall totals. I assume this to be WGL-AM Fort Wayne, IN. At 10:05, I'm near the end of the 1200's and I hear an ad for a few businesses... and heard a web address ending in .ca then I hear an ad for Dove Dental and a 516 area code phone number. It turns out this is 1290 CJBK London, Ontario with London Knights Guelph Storm Hockey. WGL-AM and CJBK-AM would be new logs for me. WGL is definately a good catch, never heard CJBK before.. but I'm in Northwest PA.. so while not extra ordinary of a catch, it's good to me ;) Paul Walker Ridgway, PA (Elk County, Northwestern Pennsylvania) ___ IRCA mailing list IRCA@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/irca Opinions expressed in messages on this mailing list are those of the original contributors and do not necessarily reflect the opinion of the IRCA, its editors, publishing staff, or officers For more information: http://www.ircaonline.org To Post a message: irca@hard-core-dx.com

There is no KEXY. Do you mean KEZY in San Bernardino? KNXN is on 1470. Do you mean KNSN in San Diego? Both fit. KJOP gets out well. The Christmas music on KNRY is preceding a format change. The new owner has taken over. I think it may go adult standards or jazz after Christmas or on January 1. Adult standards would do well in Monterey. Other program elements to listen for is Christmas music of the musical variety ...piano type etc.. and programs from The 1920s Radio Network. QSL request may be sent via email to WKAL (at) midatlanticengineeringservice.com http://midatlanticengineeringservice.com. QSLs will be returned via email. In theory, this test should have started tonight at 2200 EST (0300 UTC Saturday). I monitored the first three segments, starting at 2200, 2230, and 2300, and heard no Morse code, though there was a station playing instrumental Christmas music with no talk during the 2200-2205 segment. I'm only 150 miles from WKAL and have heard the predecessor of this station a number of times. I think the test would be audible here, so I conclude that it's not running yet. [IRCA] Closing the gap this Xmas is vital.
December 14 2013 Hello Thanks to old friends and new ones who've joined us in the past week, and helped bring us closer to covering our bills for the year ended December 31.. BUT we still have $A7,204 to find.. which remains very serious for a small non-profit organization like ours. And, no, we don't get enough site visitors to attract advertisers to cover the costs despite what people think should happen in an ideal world. However, we do offer our content for free use by the community and made possible by ordinary folks around the world who contribute towards the operating costs so the volunteers can get on with the tasks at hand. On the bright side, we've raised 59% of the funds needed, and we're very grateful for this support during 2013. We know it's a busy time of the year, holidays are coming up, there's a rush to get projects finished, travel plans to make, gifts to buy and so much more, but if you can remember us ...and if you really like what we do keeping radio memories safe, it would be seriously good if you could make a donation today at: www.radioheritage.net. Donations this week have ranged from $15 to $275 and we're delighted to upgrade more people on our Supporter Roll, and add some new friends.we look forward to acknowledging whatever you can contribute to the project. We'll be opening at least one big box of radio memorabilia going back to the 1940's this Xmas, and it's thanks to your gifts that we're here and able to save this material, and look forward to sharing it with you in 2014. Thanks so much. Somebody forgot to set up the SDR to record this morning, but my separate signal strength monitor told me there really wasn't very much to hear until the late sunrise lift this morning, starting around 1530UT. pretty darn good audio (all of it understandable by a native speaker, at least briefly): 1566 HLAZ woman in CC followed by male ballad 1540-1544UT Reasonable audio at times during the period (much of it understandable by a native speaker, though often battling w/splash or noise): HLAZ passing through not so reasonable audio, occasional words or phrases in splash or noise could be understood by a native speaker: 594 JOAK man in JJ 1531UT Burbles in the splatter and noise (if lucky, language might be guessed at by cadence of talk, or parallel established by changes in talk or music) : 774 JOUB woman talking 1535UT; s/off after 1540UT also audible 972 unID woman talking then female vocal creeping through splash 1269 JOFM/JOHW woman singing ballad //1287 1533-4UT 1287 JOHR 1530UT and following, never very strong, ID'd by //1269 1323 unID woman talking, very murky 1533UT 1503 JOUK man in JJ //594 and slightly offset 1531UT; false alarm on this one, thinking it might be Taiwan, as every time 594 was up, it seemed to be parallel, not sure why I thought it wasn't at first hearing 1575 pop mx 1540UT, seemed more like AFN's style rather than VoA 1584 NHK1 synchros, man talking, barely audible in the muck 1535UT but //594 1593 JOTB/JOQB anthem at 1540UT o/u woman talking, traces of music box afterwards 1602 NHK2 synchros 1541 music box getting stronger (but not very strong) up to 1543UT or so //1593, 774.
