Bismillah [IslamCity] Dua to pay off debts

2008-07-26 Thread ***hajikhan***

Abu Vail Rahimahullahu narrates
that a Mukatab (slave) came to Ali Radiyallahu 'anhu and said:
I am unable to pay the agreed amount within the agreed period
(to get myself freed from slavery),
so help me.
'Ali Radiyallu 'anhu told him:
Should I not teach you those words,
which Rasulullah Sallallahu 'alaihi wasallam taught me?
If you are in debt equivalent to Mount Seer (of Yemen),
Allah will discharge that debt for you.
Say this:

ALLAAHUMMAK-FINEE BI-H'ALAALIKA A'N H'ARAAMIKA
WA AGHNINEE BI-FAZ'LIKA A'MMAN SIWAAK

اللَّهُمَّ اكْفِنِي بِحَلَالِكَ عَنْ حَرَامِكَ وَأَغْنِنِي بِفَضْلِكَ عَمَّنْ
سِوَاكْ

O Allah, save me from haraam and make the halaal sufficient and by your
boon/favour make me independent from others.

Muslims of the World, where does your Glory lie?
Once a sun upon the World, to shed light far and wide.
And not from your own talents was this crown placed high,
But from Ar-Rahmaan-The Most High, yet weve left our glory dead.

This is not of mourning those wonderful days,
When the Praise of Allah was heard and lived our Prophet's Ways,
But I wish to impress upon you the reason for our decline,
Love of Wealth, Fear of Death, now! we're underneath their feet.

He told us before, that holiest of men,
He told us many things with words that Allah sent,
But we left them on the shelf and failed to take them to heart,
And now we cry dark tears of blood as our muslim lands are torn apart.

None of us were anything before Islaam made us real!
Glorify Ar-Rahmaan-The Most High and celebrate the Steel!
Islaam is our steed which if we ride we surely win!
Give Praise to Allah, put trust in Him and keep away from sin!

Qur'an is our battle plan, Revelation our fort!
We draw our water from the well of Allah and His Prophet's words!
Fear Allah young mujahideen and on His words take heed,
The enemy has no ground to stand, but surely we have pure Tawheed!

Wake up Yah Muslimeen! this world will surely pass us by,
And what will all your riches earn the day ordained to die?
Seek comfort with Allah, and not the evanescent,
Raise high the Flag of Jihad beneath the dying crescent!

 ALLAHU AKBAR!!!

Bismillah [IslamCity] Two-thirds of Egyptian men harass women?

2008-07-26 Thread Shahid
Two-thirds of Egyptian men harass women?
By Cynthia Johnston

Nearly two-thirds of Egyptian men admit to having sexually harassed women in
the most populous Arab country, and a majority say women themselves are to
blame for their maltreatment, a survey showed Thursday.

The forms of harassment reported by Egyptian men, whose country attracts
millions of foreign tourists each year, include touching or ogling women,
shouting sexually explicit remarks, and exposing their genitals to women.
Sexual harassment has become an overwhelming and very real problem experienced
by all women in Egyptian society, often on a daily basis, said the report by
the Egyptian Center for Women's Rights.

Egyptian women and female visitors frequently complain of persistent sexual
harassment on Egyptian streets, despite the socially conservative nature of
this traditional Muslim society.

The behavior could have repercussions on Egypt's tourism industry, a major
foreign income earner, with 98 percent of foreign women saying they had
experienced harassment in the country, the survey said.

The survey of more than 2,000 Egyptian men and women and 109 foreign women said
the vast majority of Egyptians believed that sexual harassment in Egypt was on
the rise, citing a worsening economic situation and a lack of awareness or
religious values.

It said 62 percent of Egyptian men reported perpetrating harassment, while 83
percent of Egyptian women reported having been sexually harassed. Nearly half
of women said the abuse occurred daily.

Only 2.4 percent of Egyptian women reported it to the police, with most saying
they did not believe anyone would help. Some feared reporting harassment would
hurt their reputations.

The vast majority of women did nothing when confronted with sexual
harassment, the survey said, adding that most Egyptian women believed the
victim should remain silent.

Some 53 percent of men blamed women for bringing on sexual harassment, saying
they enjoyed it or were dressed in a way deemed indecent. Some women agreed.

Out of Egyptian women and men interviewed, most believe that women who wear
tight clothes deserve to be harassed, the survey said. It added most agreed
women should be home by 8 p.m.

The survey said most of the Egyptian women who told of being harassed said they
were dressed conservatively, with the majority wearing the Islamic headscarf.
The harassment took place on the streets or on public transport, as well as in
tourist destinations and foreign educational institutions.

Bismillah [IslamCity] usa: Email sparks debate on anti-Muslim racism

2008-07-26 Thread Shahid

Email sparks debate on racism
Sharmila Devi, Foreign Correspondent

Arab American Heritage Week in New York is an example of efforts to change
attitudes. Joe Tabacca for The National
NEW YORK //

The Muslims have said they plan on destroying the US from the inside out. What
better way to start than at the highest level - through the president of the
United States, one of their own.

So reads an email widely distributed in the US from unknown senders as part of
a smear campaign, satirised with mixed results by The New Yorker magazine last
week, against Barack Obama, the presumed Democratic nominee.

The liberal weekly might have been making a joke when it pictured Mr Obama as a
Muslim terrorist, his wife, Michelle, as an armed radical, and the US flag
burning in the fireplace in the Oval Office. But some Americans actually appear
to believe it, according to opinion polls.

Nearly seven years after the September 11 attacks, American Muslims find
themselves on the defensive in the face of the most extreme misconceptions,
while community leaders say it will take at least another generation before
discrimination disappears. Mr Obama slammed the bogus emails as an insult to
American Muslims. He repeated that he was a Christian and was not raised in a
Muslim home.

You know, this is actually an insult against Muslim Americans, something that
we don't spend a lot of time talking about. And sometimes I've been derelict in
pointing that out, he said on CNN.

There are wonderful Muslim Americans all across the country, who are doing
wonderful things. And for this to be used as sort of an insult or to raise
suspicions about me, I think, is unfortunate. And it's not what America is all
about.

His remarks were welcomed by US Muslims. He's finally raised the issue of
bigotry, said Salam al Marayati, executive director of the Muslim Public
Affairs Council, which aims to increase the political participation of US
Muslims.

I don't care what his religion is. Religion should not be a litmus test. We've
seen an increase in political rhetoric that's exploiting people's fears, and
it's very disturbing.

An opinion poll conducted by the Pew Research Centre after the controversy over
The New Yorker cartoon broke - and despite widespread media coverage pointing
out Mr Obama's Christian beliefs - showed that 12 per cent still think he is a
Muslim, up from 10 per cent in March.

One-quarter said they did not know what Mr Obama's religious beliefs were, with
10 per cent saying they did not know enough about him but had heard different
things about his religion. Democrats who believe he is a Muslim were
significantly less likely to support him.

It's a shame Obama has decided not to visit an Islamic institution or mosque
because of all the perceptions about him, said Chip Berlet, a senior analyst
at Political Research Associates, which analyses right-wing networks. We need
leadership by all religious leaders, who should get together and forcibly speak
out against the prejudice we've seen.

After the September 11 attacks, a plethora of Muslim and Arab groups in the
United States expanded their activities, including grassroots outreach and
interfaith dialogue, but with mixed effect on reducing ignorance. It came as
little surprise to them when congressional leaders revealed to a journalist
they did not know the difference between Sunni and Shia Islam and other key
facts about the Middle East in late 2006.

The Sunni are more radical than the Shia. Or vice versa. But I think it's the
Sunnis who're more radical than the Shia, said Jo Ann Davis, a Republican who
was on a congressional intelligence committee.

Corey Saylor, who is often be found in Congress lobbying for Muslim civil
liberties for the Council on American-Islamic Relations, said the legislature
needs to improve their education but in general he was beginning to see a
more nuanced understanding of Islam.

There are people who lump Arabs, Muslims and even Sikhs all together, but a
broader understanding is beginning to trickle down, he said. September 11 was
a horrible introduction for many people.

Arab American Heritage Week in New York takes place each July and is one
example of efforts to change attitudes.

The festival was proclaimed by Michael Bloomberg, the New York mayor, five
years ago, and groups representing diverse regions in the Arab world put on
concerts, bazaars and film screenings across the city.

Thousands of people wandered along Bond Street in downtown Manhattan two weeks
ago and sampled an outdoor shisha cafe and Middle Eastern food while watching
belly-dancing and live Arabic music. Children of Arab descent, and some adults,
had different Arab national flags painted on their faces. The street festival
was organised by the New York chapter of the Network of Arab American
Professionals.

It's a great gathering of people from lots of different places, a fun day for
the family and a great way to educate

Bismillah [IslamCity] europe: Respect mobilises against racist Cologne conference

Respect mobilises against racist Cologne conference

Respect is aiming to send at least 100 activists to join protests against an
anti-Islam conference organised by Europe's fascists. At the recent
anti-fascist march in London, it appealed for activists to come to Cologne.

Thanks to George Bush's war on terror, Islamophobia is the acceptable face of
racism. The fascists and far right across Europe have put attacks on Muslims at
the centre of their propaganda.

This September the European far right is set to gather in the German city of
Cologne for an anti-Muslim hate-fest. Anti-racists, trade unions, survivors of
the Holocaust, Muslim groups and others across Germany are calling on people to
come to the city in protest. Respect is organising a large delegation to join
this major protest, blockade and counter-conference over the weekend of 20 and
21 September.

Nadir Ahmed, one of the organisers of the delegation, says, The BNP's Richard
Barnbrook is due to be in Cologne alongside veteran fascists like Jean Marie Le
Pen.

Every far right party wants to get a boost from it. A huge counter protest, on
the other hand, will lift Muslims and anti-racists across the continent. The
fascists appear to have chosen this date because it is right in the middle of
Ramadan, when Muslims are fasting, tend not to travel far, and spend a lot of
time with friends and family.

Well, for me and many Muslims going to Cologne to stop this Nuremberg rally
for Islamophobia definitely comes under the category of essential travel and an
obligation to act justly. I hope many brothers and sisters, Muslim and
non-Muslim, join us.

For details phone Nadir on 07951 058864.

Bismillah [IslamCity] Patrick Seale - Wrong on Afghanistan

2008-07-26 Thread S A Hannan
Dear editor,

Assalamu Alaikum.Please publish it

Shah abdul Hannan
- Original Message -
From: R Ahmed
Subject: Patrick Seale - Wrong on Afghanistan

Wrong on Afghanistan
Patrick Seale Middle East Online 25/7/08

The history of Afghanistan's past occupiers, and a variety of current
experts on the region, speak against Obama's policy of a future American
- and, therefore, NATO - increase in military action in that country,
says Patrick Seale.

On his foreign travels this week, Barack Obama, the Democratic
presidential candidate, pledged to switch the focus of America's
military effort from Iraq to Afghanistan -- the central front, in his
estimation, of the war on terror.

U.S. combat troops would be withdrawn from Iraq within 16 months of his
taking office, but thousands more, he promised, would be sent to fight
in Afghanistan, and be ready to cross the border into Pakistan's tribal
areas to root out jihadist sanctuaries there.

This commitment -- and the explicit threat to expand the war -- is
almost certainly a grave mistake.

Costly in men and treasure, it is unlikely to be successful and
threatens to be hugely damaging not only to American interests in the
Muslim world and Central Asia, but also to Afghanistan itself, to
Pakistan and to Indo-Pakistan relations.

No doubt, Obama senses that the American public yearns for some sort of
victory against Al-Qaeda, the elusive terrorist group that dared strike
at America's heartland on 9/11. Losing is not an option when it comes
to Al-Qaeda. he told CBS. He wants to look tough on security issues,
where his rival John McCain seems to have an edge.

But this is the old thinking from a view of doubtful validity --
accepted as gospel by many Western politicians -- that Western security
depends on locating the ageing Osama bin Laden in some remote mountain
fastness, and destroying him.

This is to mistake the nature of the threat to Western societies. Far
more dangerous than Al-Qaeda is the mass of angry tribesmen and
city-dwellers in the Afghan provinces of Helmand and Kandahar, in
Pakistan's Baluchistan, in the tribal agencies of North and South
Waziristan, in and around the teeming city of Peshawar, and even further
afield in neighbouring Uzbekistan and Tajikistan.

These men, and many of their co-religionaries in the wider Muslim world,
are angry because of America's war on terror. For many of them, it has
meant the presence of an infidel army in Muslim lands, the vast
disruption of their traditional way of life, the killing of their wives
and children by U.S. air strikes, the flourishing of cruel and greedy
warlords in outlying Afghan areas, and the rule in Kabul of President
Hamid Karzai -- seen as a Western puppet presiding over a corrupt and
ineffective regime.

To pursue the battle against Al-Qaeda by military means is to awaken
these powerful tribal and Muslim resentments -- as well as to threaten
the already precarious stability of Pakistan, a Muslim nuclear power of
165 million people locked in a dangerous confrontation with India in
both Kashmir and Afghanistan.

Zbigniew Brzezinski, the former U.S. national security adviser, is a
rare American voice to say (in an interview with the Financial Times on
21 July) that putting more troops into Afghanistan is not the entire
solution. we run the risk that our military presence will gradually turn
the Afghan population entirely against us.

Gérard Chaliand, a French counter-terrorist expert, goes further still.
Victory is impossible in Afghanistan, he declared (in an interview
with Le Monde, 22 July) Today, one must attempt to negotiate. There is
no other way. The insurgency is not led by Al-Qaeda on by foreign
fighters. It is a Pashtun matter [the majority tribe in Afghanistan,
with another 15 million members in Pakistan]. The Pashtuns are fighting
first of all for themselves.

Marc Sagemen, a leading American expert on Muslim extremism, argues in
his book, Leaderless Jihad, that free-lance radicals are more of a
threat to Western interests than Al-Qaeda itself which, he claims, has
already been neutralised operationally.

Another important book which denounces America's obsession with
destroying Al-Qaeda is Ahmad Rashid's Descent into Chaos: How the War
Against Islamic Extremism is Being Lost in Pakistan, Afghanistan and
Central Asia. He argues that the neo-con obsession with Al-Qaeda has
blinded the United States to the impact of the war on Afghanistan,
Pakistan and Kashmir, leading in turn to the powerful resurgence of the
Taliban on both sides of the Afghan-Pakistan border.

It is surely the greatest folly for NATO to declare -- and seemingly to
believe -- that its survival as an alliance, and indeed its very raison
d'être, depends on victory in the Afghan theatre -- a war that is
virtually unwinnable.

Not the least of the problems is the underlying tension in Afghanistan

Writers Freedom : What Should Be Islamic Stance

Recently there was a debatein the Middle East about the issue and extent of
freedom of writers and what is view about it of Islamist movement there. The
Lebanese Menassat news agency imputed that Brotherhood has called for
prosecution of feminist writer Nawal Saadawi on charges of blasphemy and
contempt for religion. The brotherhood denied this and said that the news
agency made serious error in translation which will encourage false
allegations by opponents of the Muslim Brotherhood that it adopts a hard-line
stance against freedoms of thought and expression. Brotherhood in its statement
said that prosecuting writers contradicts with the Muslim Brotherhood ideology
which has always been staunch supporter of freedom of thought and expression
We promote freedom of thought, said MB Secretary General Mahmoud Ezzat, and
never in the history of the Muslim Brotherhood we prosecuted or called for the
prosecution of writers. But is important that writers and thinkers use their
talents in a way that respects the creeds and beliefs of others; in another
word seek to reconcile between principles of freedom and the respect to the
rights of others, so that one’s opinion will not be a violation of the other’s
freedom of belief, he told Ikhwanweb.com.

This is a touchy issue and Brotherhood has done well in explaining its
position. Brotherhood is a major Islamic movement on a global basis and we hope
this will be a guideline for all other Islamic movements. It is a different
matter that any government has right under law to proscribe a seditious or
blasphemous book.

Bismillah [IslamCity] Women job seekers warned of bogus ads

2008-07-26 Thread Shahid

These women should be very very careful!!! These kind of job offerings are
common in other countries where they offer something like this in another
country when the women go there then they force them into prostitution.

Women job seekers warned of bogus ads
  Arab News

JEDDAH: The Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice
has warned against false job advertisements that aim at luring women into
immorality. It said that those involved in such practices would be punished.

Saudi authorities will not show any leniency toward people who publish
such false advertisements to seduce women; they will be dealt with strongly,
said Ahmed bin Qassim Al-Ghamdi, director general of the commission's office in
Makkah.

Mohammed Al-Ghamdi, director of licenses at the Information Ministry,
said newspapers should ensure the authenticity of advertisements before
publishing them. If we receive any complaint, the person involved will be held
responsible in accordance with the law, he told Al-Madinah daily recently.

The advertisements in question often offer attractive salaries and
benefits to women job seekers who do not have any experience or qualifications,
the paper said. The employers will say that applicants will be given necessary
training.

Some women job seekers said when they contacted the advertisers, they
were told that the employers were seeking pretty, forward-looking women who
would not object to mingling with men.
Hajar Mahmoud, who was lured by one such advertisements, said working
with such people would have disastrous consequences.

Tahani Al-Harbi, another Saudi woman, talked about her experience when
she applied for a secretarial job. When I contacted them for the job, I was
told the applicant should be open-minded, mature and beautiful, she said.

Khaled Al-Zahrani, an advertisement executive, said there were strict
conditions to accepting advertisements related to women, such as the person
placing the ad should come to the advertising office and provide personal
information. This will help us determine whether the advertisement is a sham
or not, he said.

Bismillah [IslamCity] The US Puts Up a Huge Expensive Embassy on the RUINS of Iraq

2008-07-26 Thread Yusuf Ibrahim
*New **U.S.** Embassy Rises in **Iraq***

*Conspicuously huge and self-contained but deemed inadequate for a disaster
scenario, the compound is already taking fire.*

*By Alexandra Zavis, Times Staff Writer
**July 24, 2007** *

*
http://www.latimes.com/news/nationworld/world/la-fg-embassy24jul24,0,7085179.story?page=1coll=la-home-world
*

BAGHDAD — Huge, expensive and dogged by controversy, the new U.S. Embassy
compound nearing completion here epitomizes to many Iraqis the worst of the
U.S. tenure in Iraq.

*It**'**s all for them, all of Iraq**'**s resources, water, electricity,
security, said Raid Kadhim Kareem, who has watched the buildings go up at a
floodlighted site bristling with construction cranes from his post guarding
an abandoned home on the other side of the Tigris River. It**'**s as if it*
*'**s their country, and we are guests staying here.*

*Despite its brash scale and nearly $600-million cost, the compound designed
to accommodate more than 1,000 people is not big enough, and may not be safe
enough if a major military pullout leaves the country engulfed in a
heightened civil war, **U.S.** planners now say.*

Militants have fired shells into the compound in the fortified Green Zone,
where more than 85 rocket and mortar strikes have killed at least 16 people
since February, according to a United Nations report last month. Five more
people died in fierce barrages this month. Having the 'heavily fortified
Green Zone' doesn't matter one iota when it comes to rocket and mortar
attacks, said one senior military officer.

*Like much U.S. planning in Iraq, the embassy was conceived nearly three
years ago on rosy assumptions that stability was around the corner, and that
the military effort would gradually draw down, leaving behind a vast array
of civilian experts who would remain intimately engaged in Iraqi
state-building. The result is what some analysts are describing as a
$592-million anachronism.*

It really is sort of betwixt and between, said Stephen Biddle, a senior
fellow at the U.S.-based Council on Foreign Relations who advises the
Defense Department. It's bigger than it should be if you really expect Iraq
to stabilize. It's not as big as it needs to be to be the nerve center of an
ongoing war effort.

*In a stunning security breach, architectural plans for the compound were
briefly posted on the Internet in May. If the government of
**Iraq**collapses and becomes transparently just one party in a civil
war, you
**'**ve got **Ft.** **Apache** in the middle of Indian country, but the
Indians have mortars now, Biddle said.*

*When completed in September, the compound will have the amenities of a
small town, with six apartment buildings, a palm-fringed swimming pool, a
gym, fast-food outlets, a barbershop and beauty salon, and a commissary
stocked with the comforts of home. It is designed to be entirely
self-sufficient, boasting its own power plant, wells and wastewater
treatment system, according to a December 2005 report for the Senate Foreign
Relations Committee. Plans are also being drawn up to build short-term
housing for several hundred additional people on a currently unused portion
of the site, said Patrick F. Kennedy, the State Department**'**s management
policy chief, who traveled to Iraq in May to review embassy staffing. How
much the housing will add to the price tag has not been determined.*

The project echoes another mega-embassy where diplomats, spies and army
brass met for drinks and golf dates in a slice of America amid the
escalating chaos in Somalia. That compound, which dwarfed even the Baghdad
facility, was dismantled by looters after the overthrow of dictator Mohamed
Siad Barre in 1991.

*The magnitude of the new compound, with nearly the same acreage as **Vatican
City**, has convinced many Iraqis that the **United States** harbors
long-term ambitions here, even as domestic pressure mounts to start bringing
the troops home. They**'**re not leaving **Iraq** for a long time, said
Hashim Hamad Ali, another guard, who called the compound a symbol of
oppression and injustice.*

The compound was designed to accommodate career diplomats, representatives
of almost every major U.S. government agency and their security personnel.
But U.S. officials, speaking on condition of anonymity, said it had been
assumed that the military presence would have diminished by now, so little
room was included for them, which could make coordination between the
civilian and military aspects of the U.S. mission difficult. The top U.S.
commander in Iraq, Army Gen. David H. Petraeus, and hundreds of headquarters
staff work out of the current embassy.

Adding pressure on the available space is the unusually high number of
non-Iraqi workers doing temporary jobs that would be handled by local
nationals at other embassies, officials here said. All of those workers need
to be housed. Just as the military is surging, the State Department is
surging too, said Kennedy of the State Department.
