2007-01-03 Thread Sarah

Hello. try CDEX from www.jfwlite.com

Hi All,

I am looking for a program to change music files that I currently
have on my hard drive to MP3 files. Does any one know of a program
that is accessible with JAWS?

2007-01-03 Thread Frederick

Hi

I use gold wave to convert music files to MP3. It is fairly JAWS friendly for
this purpose. You can also get JAWS scripts for the program but I have yet to
be able to install them.

Hi, sorry if this has been covered recently but I have only just joined the
mailing list.

Some time ago after doing a Google search I saw a jaws user reporting that
the freeview USB device from freecom was compatible with Jaws.

I have purchased this and installed it but Jaws will not read any of what is
on the screen. I am not sure if this is because the software that came with
it is later than the one that the person was using who said it was usable
with Jaws?

Any help and advice any of you could give me will be appreciated.

Thanks

Mark

[JAWS-Users] nero back it up

2007-01-03 Thread David Ferrin

I have this animal but never tried using it before. Now we've looked at the
documentation but we are curious how the restore process works. Do the
disks perform a self restore, or does Nero need to be reloaded before the
files can be put back? Also does it backup the registry as well? I imagine
it must or there would be no point in backing up the programs at all.

It's basically a UK-based free-to-air digital television service provider. However,
www.freeview.co.uk
and its derivatives, will shed further light on it. Also, looking up "Freeview" in Wikipedia may illuminate. Hope that explains.

Hi, thanks for your quick response.

I have seen those posts that your Google search gave you, in fact it was
this that made me purchase the product. I am not having any luck with the
things that they are suggesting so I am wondering if my unit has more recent
software than they have? And that is not now Jaws friendly.

Unfortunately the emails from the people on that group are cut short.

If any of you could take a look at the Google link that you posted and if
you know the people that were talking about the unit perhaps you could ask
them to e-mail me off list so we don't clutter up this list or even give me
there contact details for me to talk to them about it? providing they don't
   mind.

   Thanks once again.

Kate,
Try putting the cd in the drive and holding down the left shift key.
This will prevent the cd from automatically starting.
After it quits spinning, let up the shift key and then go to, my computer
and then highlight the CD drive, but don't press enter.
Now press your applications key and arrow down to, open and press enter.
Now you should be able to navigate the cd and find the file you are looking
for.

David & all,

I've used the real speak voices and have mixed opinions on them. I guess
they are okay but don't think they are that much better than the standard
voice. What would be nice is if they could do a quality voice like the
one
when you first put the CD in to install and it reads the first screen.
That
is a very clear and nice voice

thanks

Before purchasing RealSpeak from this site, check with FS to find out
whether or not the voices will work with JAWS before investing your money.
I
don't know one way or the other whether RealSpeak that's not obtained
through FS will function with JAWS 8.0, so be sure before commiting
yourself.

Visit

- "sample and purchase" page. You can there download short demo samples.
However, you would need to purchase one of their products or purchase
JAWS8
to be able to use the voices.

David & all,

I've used the real speak voices and have mixed opinions on them. I guess
they are okay but don't think they are that much better than the standard
voice. What would be nice is if they could do a quality voice like the
one
when you first put the CD in to install and it reads the first screen.
That

is a very clear and nice voice

thanks

Several of the main featured voices are the same as those that come on the extra CD with JAWS8. (as One can see from the names, like Jill - 22.5 khz, etc.) But the question here was about a demo of JAWS8, AND A 'POSSIBLE' DEMO OF THOSE VOICES. 'Solo synth' voices are mentioned as well. Eric D. also stated (To Brian hartgen on the 'Infotech' CD and MP3 magazine download, available by subscription.) that they could only put a certain amount of voices on the one CD, so we got just a sample of what could work out well enough with JAWS now.

[JAWS-Users] Re: Changing verbosity and punctuation

2007-01-03 Thread one foxy lady

oh I see..
I've not actually done that for IE but many for other applications. I do
notice in OE for instance, the verbosity will be on beginner when in fact I
have it on intermediant through insert f2/configuration and sometimes it's
just the other way around haha
I must have not installed jaws 8 right or I did, because so far all seems to
be the same for me over here from jaws 7.10 other than a few extra reading
of menus/options all works same as it ever was, save as it ever was..wasn't
that a song?

Hailley -

Actually, both are permanent. I objected to some of the items that got
included in the INSERT+V dialogs when they were introduced several
versions back because they merely replace items that can be set either
from the Configuration Manager or the JAWS (INSERT+J) dialog, but lost
that argument. What's _really_ confusing is that in some instances, the
changes are permanent (as in Outlook Express, MS Word, etc.) and in
others, they're purely temporary (the most obvious case here is in
Internet Explorer where, if you want to make permanent changes, you press
CTRL+INSERT+V instead and then, they apply only to the domain you were at
when you made the changes).

I've noticed that happening too I'm wondering if the verbosity acts more
like a on the fly change and the one in the configuration is more
permanante??

[JAWS-Users] Re: Freeview USB stick

2007-01-03 Thread Mark Brett

[JAWS-Users] Re: Reoccuring Error Message

2007-01-03 Thread Walt Smith

Okay, that's almost certainly your problem. As I've said before, never,
never, never run JAWS Merge. It causes more problems than it saves. What you
should do is copy your .jdf files (using CTRL+C) directly from the 7.0 user
files folder to the 7.10 user files folder and let it go at that.

You can test out how JAWS is working without your merged files by doing the
following:

1. Unload JAWS using INSERT+F4.
2. Press Windows Key+R.
3. Type jaws71 /default and press ENTER.

Note that in the above, there is no space between jaws and 71, but there is
between jaws71 and the forward slash.

This should start JAWS with all of its normal defaults in place; that is, it
bypasses any files in your user files folder. See if the problem occurs
under these circumstances and if it doesn't, erase everything that's in your
7.10 user files folder and start over by copying only the .jdf files from
the 7.0 user files folder.

[JAWS-Users] Re: Changing verbosity and punctuation

2007-01-03 Thread Walt Smith

Hailley -

Actually, both are permanent. I objected to some of the items that got
included in the INSERT+V dialogs when they were introduced several versions
back because they merely replace items that can be set either from the
Configuration Manager or the JAWS (INSERT+J) dialog, but lost that argument.
What's _really_ confusing is that in some instances, the changes are
permanent (as in Outlook Express, MS Word, etc.) and in others, they're
purely temporary (the most obvious case here is in Internet Explorer where,
if you want to make permanent changes, you press CTRL+INSERT+V instead and
then, they apply only to the domain you were at when you made the changes).

[JAWS-Users] Re: Reading the title bar in winamp.

2007-01-03 Thread Victor Gouveia

Hi Lisa,

You might try pressing the keystroke of alt+3 to open up the tag editor.

At this point, you can tab through the information for the sound file you're
listening to and you should be able to arrow through it one letter at a time.

Be prepared, however, that you may have to tab quite a few times to get to the
information you'll want to read as there is no way of knowing where the author
actually put the track information in the MP3 tag.

Hope this helps.

Mark,

If you have the disk just insert it and follow the instructions.

In some ways the voices are better for reading long documents. I use the
'Daniel' voice in kurzweil for example for reading long books.

Go into the help file and it will tell you how to turn them on or off.

Hope this helps.

Hi, Victor -

It might also matter where you make the changes. I was already in Outlook
Express, so I simply changed the verbosity from Advanced to Intermediate
after pressing INSERT+V and when that didn't alter anything, I used the same
approach to change the punctuation setting. However, I just now changed the
verbosity setting by means of Configuration Manager and the punctuation
settings wasn't changed then, either, so my guess is that you may have
changed it manually and then forgotten. I was pretty sure that there was no
direct connection between verbosity and punctuation; that is, that altering
one would affect the other; and this seems to verify it.

Hi Walt,

I have my eloquence set to intermediate and my punctuation set to some.

In point of fact, when I set my verbosity level to intermediate, it
automatically set my punctuation to some.

I didn't have to do anything with it.

I remember that because I realized that I had to change the punctuation just
after I did that and it had already been changed.

There is a possibility that I changed it before I changed the setting to
intermediate, but I don't think so.

In any case, thanks for pointing out that the punctuation has to be set to
some or one to get rid of those lines.

Victor

because I bought a couple of them right before I found out that I was
getting several for free with version 8.

Visit
http://www.nextup.com/scansoft.html
- "sample and purchase" page. You can there download short demo samples.
However, you would need to purchase one of their products or purchase JAWS8
to be able to use the voices.

[JAWS-Users] Changing verbosity and punctuation

2007-01-03 Thread Walt Smith

Victor

2007-01-03 Thread Walt Smith

I believe this is correct. The RealSpeak voices _cannot_ be downloaded from
the FS web site. My guess; and it's just that; is that there is something in
the licensing agreement that keeps FS from distributing the voices in any
other way.

doesn't work in the title bar. Does anyone know how I can read my title bar

[JAWS-Users] Re: real speak voices in jaws 8

2007-01-03 Thread ANDREW GODWIN

It is my understanding that the only way to get the voices is to purchase JAWS
8 and you then will receive a CD with the real speak voices along with the JAWS
CD.

Victor
