[JAWS-Users] Re: Windows Calculator

2007-05-15 Thread Victor Gouveia
Hi Larry,

Did you, in fact, see the Calculator program in your start menu under
accessories?

If you did see it there, there should be no reason you can't create a desktop
icon for it on your desktop.

Judging by the description of what you pressed and the reaction you got from
Windows, you may not have pressed the applications key, and instead pressed a
secondary Windows key.

In some cases and some keyboards, instead of there being only three keys to the
right of the spacebar, there will be four keys. Those keys are, in order from
left to right, an Alt key, a secondary Windows Logo key, which opens the start
menu, the applications key, which, visually, has a small rectangle with lines
criss-crossing it, so as to look like a menu, and lastly, the Control key.

Obviously, the one you want to press is the first one to the left of that right
Control key.

I have seen keyboards where the applications key is not present and only the
extra Windows key is present, in which case, I'm going to assume that there
must be another way of accessing that applications menu, possibly using the
right mouse button while in Jaws cursor mode.

As far as I know, this is the only way to access the applications menu without
the applications key. I would be interested to know if there is another way I
don't know of, after all, the pursuit of knowledge is a never ending quest.

Anyway, let us know if this is what happened or not.

Victor

2007-05-15 Thread Negoslav Sabev
The path to the calc.exe is C:\WINDOWS\system32\calc.exe. If you can't see it,
maybe the "Hide protected operating system files" option is active. To
deactivate it go to Windows Explorer, menu tools>options and when the window
opens ctrl.+tab to go to the view tab, than 2 times tab till you hear "files
and folders opened". Navigate with the letter h till you hear "hide protected
operating system files" followed by on or off state of this control. If it is
on, Press space and answer "yes to the dialogue that will appear. Press tab to
reach the ok button and activate it. Than you should be able to find the file
you need. After you finish making shortcut restore the previous setting using
the steps above, so that your operating system files will be protected again
from deletion.
Good luck.

Victor,

That was my first shot and when I pressed the windows application key it took
me up one level to the windows start menu. Ditto for shift+f10 and right mouse
button. Additionally when I went to desktop, application menu, new, shortcut,
browse button, C-drive and windows. I searched through all 374 folders and
didn't find any reference to the windows calculator. That was the point at
which I figured I had somehow screwed up and had best call in the cavolery

Hi Larry,

If you press the start menu, and arrow to the accessories
folder, then to calculator, then press the applications key,
and arrow down to send to, there should be an option to
create a shortcut on the desktop.

Once it's done, I can't readily remember if it will display
on the desktop as "Shortcut to Calculator" or just
"Calculator". Either one, all you have to do is enter on
your my documents folder, then press the backspace two or
three times, and the window will display all your desktop
items.

Once it does, look for the shortcut that was created, and
re-name it what ever you want to name it.

At that point, you can close the window, and confirm that
the shortcut re-name was changed, and even enter on the
shortcut to confirm that the shortcut activates the program.

Hi Folks,

I am attempting to create a shortcut to the windows calculator, and for the
life of me I can't find the file for it anywhere.
I am probably just missing a step so if one of you good folk would be so
kind as to bale me out I would be grateful.
