Re: [JAWS-Users] Keyboard Descriptions, was: Putting Programs on Desktop

2007-08-26 Thread carlene knight
Is it actually a laptop. If so, there should be a key on the left next
to the control key which is the function key. The home key would be
function and left arrow pressed in unison. Hope that helps.

 Hi Patricia,

The keyboard you described sounds a lot like mine. Try looking for the home
key directly below the delete key, assuming the delete key is right next to
the insert key (Second left from the top right-hand corner of the keyboard).
If this statement holds true for your keyboard, then try looking for the
windows key two keys to the left of the space bar, or two to the right of
the left control key. I don't know what that key you described is used for,
this is my second laptop I've had in this keyboard configuration and I
haven't figured out what it's for. As for the aplications key, if the above
two statements on key location remain true then try going two keys to the
 right of the space bar.

 it's

Are you absolutely sure that you do not have a Windows key and an
applications key. I'm using an 88 key keyboard on my Del and I have both
keys. I do know that the IBM laptop does not have a Windows key, but I
think I remember a discussion not to long ago on how to deal with this.
Sorry to say, that I did not pay much attention to that subject line.

Have you tried investigating your keyboard with the JAWS Keyboard Help
command? Use Insert 1 (that is the number 1 on the number row) to turn
 on
keyboard help. Now you can press keys and hear what they are. When you
press the application key, JAWS will announce application. When you
 press
the Windows key, JAWS will not say anything. However, when you find a
 key
that does not say anything, just combine it with another key like the
 letter
 M. In this case you would hear JAWS say Windows M. To get out of
Keyboard help, just repeat the Insert+1 command.

 Annette

 Good Evening Y'all,

How do I go about putting program applications on the desktop when I have
 to
use a keyboard of 88 keys in laptop layout mode and there is no

When I go to the start menu and arrow to the program normally I can do
 this
without a hitch on my computer's keyboard, but this is someone elses that
has to use this particular keyboard being as they only have one arm and
 one

We do use the sticky key but so far that hasn't helped in this situation.
 I
have tried doing alt-enter on the item but that doesn't help ither.

Please help if possible. This is a computer running xp pro and jaws 8.

 Thanks,

 Hi all,
Has anyone successfully used the BrailleNote as a Braille display using
 JAWS
8? I can't seem to get it to work, no matter what I do. I wish to use it
 as
a bluetooth Braille display. I've done everything right (set JAWS to the
correct com port, added BrailleNote to the list of displays, etc), and
nothing's happening. I get a blank display, and, providing I check the
 show
braille load error check box, JAWS displays could not load Braille
driver. I know that I've set it up correctly, as I can connect to
ActiveSync via bluetooth no problem. FYI, I'm using Windows XP and I have
 a
USB bluetooth dongle, using the drivers that comes with Windows XP Sp2.
 Thanks!

Though I don't have JFW 8, It sounds like you might be running a screen
saver that might be crashing JAWS, or JAWS can't respond to the screen
saver. I had a similar problem with my Sony Vaio until I set the screen
saver to none. Now it's no problem.

Re: [JAWS-Users] update or not to update,

2007-08-26 Thread AMTK161
Hi Cathy,

In your case, I think you should work with eather FS and/or the people on
this list, someone should be able to help you fix your JAWS not reading mail
problem. Once you have that fixed, I'd recommend updating to JAWS 8 given
that you already have 8 purchassed.

I was in a similar situation with JAWS and AOL Instant Messenger. Anything
later then JAWS 6.0 or 6.1 (I forget now) would not read the status of
buddies on my buddy list...For example, idle, away, etc. I never really
thought of calling FS though because I had asked around on mailing lists and
my problem appeared to be unheard of. Anyway when JAWS 8 came out, AOL
Instant Messenger 6.0 was supported.

All that to say this: Since you have 8 already, I'd try and find a solution
to your problem.

Michael

2007-08-26 Thread David Ferrin
Well thanks to Annette for telling me the out going
protocol everything is fine and he is up and running. Just so everybody
knows here are the in coming and out going protocols.
in coming server name
mail.verizon.net
out going server name
outgoing.verizon.net
Make sure to check the box that says my server requires authorization.

It figures they would have to be different than everybody else on the
market.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Can JFW 7.0 Work with IE 7?

Why was it changed to be an optional update?

 Are you sure about that?

I thought I saw a posting or two about that several months ago on this
 list.
Seems to me there were two things, one to block the automatic update for
 IE
7 which I was pretty sure I had done on my work computer. I suspect the
techies though changed that at some point when I was off sick. They really
don't much like it when people mess about with things customizing their
computers though they generally leave mine pretty well alone.

Oddly I don't remember doing that on this machine and it hasn't updated
Internet Explorer. Maybe because I don't have automatic updates enabled
 but
intermittently allow updates which I try to scrutinize and make sense of.

Anyway, I am pretty sure there is a way of rolling back to IE 6.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Can JFW 7.0 Work with IE 7?

2007-08-26 Thread Dale Leavens
Well for some reason it appeared on my computer just two weeks ago and after
one of those annoying automatic updates. I had, at some point last year thought
I had checked something to disable IE 7 but perhaps I did not or perhaps the
techies changed it while I was off with my broken leg. Tomorrow I'll try to
find a little time to work more with IE7 but so far, for Internet searches and
reading medical documents and a few .PDFs it has done just fine.

This reminds me,

anyone know how to stop Windows demanding you reboot after an automatic update?
There is the option to boot later however that keeps jumping up every 10 or 15
minutes and it grabs focus. When I am charting in Word I suddenly begin hearing
beeps with each keystroke. I suppose if I happened to type a 'y' at that time
my computer would go away and reboot. There doesn't seem to be any way to put
that away until the end of the day or some other convenient time.

If anyone is aware of a way to stop that beyond disabling updates, our Techs
don't want us to do that, I would surely like to know.

Thanks.

Maybe this is the excuse I need to get them to buy me Jaws 9. I must find out a
little more too about Cytrix support, we have a couple of applications, one is
payroll but I don't much mind not accessing that, it is complicated and even
the regular users screw it up.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Can JFW 7.0 Work with IE 7?

2007-08-26 Thread Dale Leavens
Actually it doesn't.

I don't have time on-the-job to reboot and yes it does take what I consider to
be significant time to restart, log back onto the network, open the
applications I need including the documents I am working on and should the
phone ring and I require information to respond well, really, Windows can wait
until the morning if I am willing to.

Imagine the Shuttle having to reboot for an update on it's way into Edwards
airforce base! Maybe it has happened.

Dale you really don't want to turn that off, in most cases its needed to
complete the installation. Just reboot it can't take more then a minute or
two unless your pc is very slow. So I'd just save what you're doing and
 then reboot. Hope that helps.
