 Thanks,

This information has been helpful but it isn't the answer I am looking
for. I like the naming though and I didn't know about it before now.

I am looking for some way of calculating regions and highlighting them
then shifting them under the days of the week using a macro. This isn't
working well either, I am pretty sure I can select a block but don't know
how to make the left edge of it move to the edge of the visible screen.

I don't understand pivot tables very well, maybe there is a way through
 that channel.

 2 Press N for Name.
3 Press D for Define. (this should open a dialog box and put you in an
 edit field).
4 type Title (be sure the T is capital).
 5 Press Enter.

Now when you arrow left or right JAWS should say the column title and
when you arrow up and down JAWS should say the ROW title. Be sure to
save the file after doing this as this information is stored in excel.

I hope this works for you. I will keep looking for the way to do this
visually. I know it is out there.
Let me know if you have any questions.

Are you wanting to copy and paste rows and columns somewhere else
 in
 excel?

If so, the shift-spacebar is the copy command for a row and
 control-spacebar
is the copy for a column.
you also can hold down the shift key like with your left hand and
 use the
right/left arrow keys to select blocks of text to move elsewhere as
 well.
One thing to note...if you use any kind of dollars/cents which you
 can
 copy
and paste into anotehr cell, it tends to show as ### sign to get
 your
 copied
info to show up just widen your cell...

Re: [JAWS-Users] Icons in Folders on Desktop

2007-09-30 Thread Mike Barbara Brunner
Hi all:

We finally got it figured out. Instead of cutting and pasting I needed to
copy and paste. My friend called with the solution. We went into the Icons
folder and copied the programs I wanted shortcuts to and pasted them onto
the Desktop, went into properties reassigned shortcut keys, then deleted the
programs out of the Icons folder. Everything is fine now. Now, on to see
what else I can screw up. Thanks all.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Icons in Folders on Desktop

 Hi all:

I was told by a friend that if I placed my infrequently used Icons on my
desktop in a folder on my desktop it would speed up the computer and free
 up
some RAM. I created the folder and cut and pasted several Icons into the
folder and found that my shortcut keys no longer work with the items in
 the
folder. I tried cutting and pasting a few of them back on the Desktop and
they still didn't work. Could someone please tell me how I can undo this
problem? I am teaching myself JAWS and how to use the computer and I am
terrible with computer language. So, could it please be explained in
 lamens
terms and in detail? I really enjoy reading the e-mails here. You people
 are very good.

 Thank you,

[JAWS-Users] IE 7.0 and tool bar

2007-09-30 Thread rcham27
Whenever I connect to IE, I get the Get it now web page.
I have home page set as blank, but I can not get rid of the IE web page.

When playing around in the menu bar under View I see things such as tool
bar.
I have tried to un check the current page but I am not able to do this.

My question is; What are the tool bars? and is there a better way to have
them set for JAWS?

Thank you.

I was using Excel 2003, JAWS 8.x on an XP machine. I was using a form to

data into the third record (row) I got an Unknown function message. I do
not remember the details.

Sorry I can't really help.

 5 Press Enter.

Now when you arrow left or right JAWS should say the column title and
when you arrow up and down JAWS should say the ROW title. Be sure to

I hope this works for you. I will keep looking for the way to do this
visually. I know it is out there.
Let me know if you have any questions.

here's another thing to try, you should do a repair of jfw and see if
that will fix the problem. to do this, simply insert your jfw cd and
follow the prompts. there will be a selection to choose from to
modify, repair, or uninstall jfw, choose the the repair opton. hope this

have you tried unloading jaws and restarting it, sometimes that will

[JAWS-Users] Braille display and Jaws 8

2007-09-30 Thread William Stephan
I have three computers running Jaws 8, one desktop, and two laptops. I
decided to use my Pacmate display on one of the laptops. I went in under
utilities and opened up the display window. On the other two machines I've
done this with, there's a pick for the PM display. On this particular
machine though, there's only one pick, and it's for no display.

Now, I have never synced my pacmate with this particular laptop. Do I need
to do that to get the drivers to appear, or is there some other way to get
them.

Thanks.

I am not sure what problems you are having with mapquest. I find it one of
the easiest sites to use with JAWS. In fact, it appears that they made
changes in the site to make it more jaws friendly.

If you want directions from one place to another, go on to mapquest.com,
 hit
insert 7 to get a list of links; when you hear directions or driving
 directions, hit enter.

Then you go to a page where you fill out a form as to where you are and
where you want to go. It will ask for address, state, city and zip code.
Once you go into insert mode, fill in this data in each box and hit the
 tab
key to go from box to box.

After you fill in where you are, there is some other information that you
can ignore if you want; simply scroll down until you get to the same type
of fill-in boxes for where you want to go. After you fill in those
 fields,
there is more information you probably don't care about. There is also
 some
advertising (remember this is free, so they have to run ads. At some
 point
Jaws announces get directions. Hit enter and then your step-by-step map
will appear. At that point, you can also choose to have the directions
 emailed to you.

 Hope this helps.

I'm in the process of adding several self installing versions for most

opportunity presents itself for me to do so. Never the less eventually
almost every zip file will have an accompanying executable version to go

all the other files available up there. At the present time there is
almost 700 mega bytes up on the server, good thing I got an unlimited

Re: [JAWS-Users] JAWS version 8.0.422U quitsspeakingatsecurityscreen

2007-09-30 Thread John Justice
Carrie, we have the same problem at FedEx. If the system goes into
Security, suddenly you have no voice We don't have to shut down our systems
but there's an automatic function which will send the computer into a Screen
Saver mode if you don't type for more than 20 minutes.
I think that's what you mean, isn't it?.
Here are a couple of things we tried.

1. Remove Jaws from the System Tray. That seems to make it less apt to
shut down or lock out.

2. We found that shutting down Jaws helps. Then, all you do is press
Control Alt J if your system is set up for that and it will usually boot up
and talk ieven in the Security screen.

I don't think the problem is Jaws Carrie. The system will shut down all
programs including Jaws and retain only the Screen Saver or Security screen
as you called it.
The programs aren't really shut down, they're just blocked temporarily. I
wish that there was some way to remove that blasted thing completely.

Here at work we are running Microsoft Windows XP Professional version

 Here's the problem/s:
 1. When I walk away from the computer for a period of time and the
security screen saver comes up, (where you have to press control, alt
delete and then enter your password) I have no speech.

Even if someone helps me get through this part JAWS does not begin
speaking. You can see JAWS and close it but then simply starting JAWS

 again doesn't start speech.

I have to actually restart the entire computer.

 2. I have had a similar problem for a bit now where if I type very
quickly and have more than 3 applications open that JAWS quit's

since my upgrade to JAWS 8.0.4 is the final straw.

So, please tell me what I have done wrong or what I am missing. My 8

Eric, we can't get rid of it if it's anything like the FedEx system. That

Calling the Support team yielded no effective results at all. Most of them
weren't familiar with the kind of problem we're having. As I said earlier,
I don't think it's Jaws completely. The Security system tends to stop all

Sorry my friend, but your Support people were quite lost with this problem.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] updates to the scripts page

I'm in the process of adding several self installing versions for most
of the scripts that are already posted on the page. They are all pretty
much up there now but not all linked as of yet. I'm doing that as
opportunity presents itself for me to do so. Never the less eventually
almost every zip file will have an accompanying executable version to go
along with it. I hope that some folks are taking advantage of these and
all the other files available up there. At the present time there is
almost 700 mega bytes up on the server, good thing I got an unlimited
 account.

It looks like either one at a time or all of them at once.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Goldenear POD

I recently subscribed to Goldenear POD client. There are approximately 250
default subscribed to POD casts. There are only a few I want to keep. How
can I delete many in bulk rather than only one at a time

thanks
Al

[JAWS-Users] Help with reading text with Acrobat Reader

2007-09-30 Thread Chris Feist
Hi. I've never really had any luck with PDF documents, but now I have no
choice. I'm going to install the latest version of Acrobat Reader, but I'll
need to know if there are specific settings I will have to make so it will
be JAWS friendly. My understanding was it could be made to be so with some
accessibility settings somewhere?

Also, is there a way to save it as text? That would even be better. Any
possible way I can save a PDF file and read it, as well as copy and paste
from it, will work.

I'll have some PDF documents that I must read and then copy into a Word
document for a college class this week. In fact, by Tuesday. I need a
crash course in this because this is very last minute and I'm forced to do
research via PDF documents from my college's data base. Keep in mind I know
virtually nothing about how to use Acrobat Reader, but it's high time I
learn.

Thanks,

Chris Feist - The one and only!

[JAWS-Users] press a key.net and jaws

2007-09-30 Thread Rosemarie Chavarria
Hi, everyone. Just awhile ago I went to the press a key site and wanted to
hear radio stations. When I pressed the number 3 on the keyboard, nothing
came up. I'm wondering if this site works well with jaws. Any help on this
would be very much appreciated. Many thanks in advance.
Rosemarie
