[JAWS-Users] AVG8 and jaws

2008-04-10 Thread Negoslav Sabev
Hello all,

Below are 2 messages from another list and I think they are interesting to
read.
Negoslav

I upgraded my version of AVG internet security 7.5 to the new version 8.0
and have had the following issue.
Can't open the user interface. Other than that the software seems to be
running fine.
After contacting AVG support and supplying them with diagnostic information
I have received the following response.

Dear Sir/Madam,

Thank you for your email.

After detailed analysis of the files which you sent us, we found that you
use JAWS software which is causing this issue.

We need to inform you that our developers are working on that issue.

At this moment we do not have solution.

We will inform you as soon as we have solution for that situation.

Please accept our apologies for the inconvenience which this issue may cause
you. We can recommend you to uninstall temporarily JAWS software until we
found
solution.

Thank you for your understanding and kind cooperation.

So all out there who are using AVG. Stay with your current version and
Hopefully this issue will be fixed in later releases of AVG8.

I tested AVG8 with the following jaws versions Jaws 5,6,7,8,9 and the same
problem still happens.

Hi,
I am running Jaws 9 and AVG 8, too.
I came up with a work around for the problem, and hope that AVG will fix
this in the near future.
Here is what I did:
Assign a hot key for AVG. Also, have a hot key for Jaws.
Unload Jaws.
Hit the hot key you have assigned to AVG.
Reload Jaws with your hot key.
The AVG user interface will be available.
You can tab around through the program, but using the menu bar is very
accessible to find the program features.
It may not be an elegant solution, but very doable.
Hope this is of some help.
Crystal

Because of these things I have switched over to AVAST! 4 Home Edition and am
using it reasonably well with Jaws.

Oh this sounds just wonderful, at least the first suggestion tech support
offered is simply great. Now the second suggestion might just work although
not ideal possibly functional.

2008-04-10 Thread Michelle Brandt
I want to thank everyone for their assistance with my problem with
jaws and outlook express. Unfortunately, even the suggestions from
freedom scientific haven't done any good. jaws is very finicky and
chooses when it wants to work and when it doesn't. it is very
frustrating. i will just have to check out my options for other email
clients to see if I have better luck.

Thank you again,

Michelle

I know, it is the strangest thing. My computer techy friend can't
figure it out and neither can my sighted friend who does the
configuring in jaws for me. how do i do a repair of jaws? i wonder
if it has to do with being on a laptop using a wireless connection.
yes, i've heard the same thing about other email clients, and i think
i need to stick with OE.

Thanks again,
Michelle

what you basically do is put the jaws cd in. once the jaws cd is in, click
on install. it will detect that you already have a version of jaws
installed. then you check the radiobutton to repair.

2008-04-10 Thread orhan deniz
i don't understand, why you are having bad luck with Outlook express, jaws
works fine with it. trust me, i'm subscribed to about 15 lists, and read
about 500 messages a day and have no trouble. either you are doing some
thing wrong, or jaws or OE is acting up. try doing a repair of jaws, that
may fix the problem.

oh yeah, and good luck with other mail clients. If jaws won't work with
outlook express, you will find a hard time finding a mail client that works
at all.

I don't know if this might help, but the few times
I've had that same
problem with OE, it was because I had some other
window maximized or some
other program running in the background. So maybe what
you need to do is
close all other applications and see if you can read
the fields.

Thank you, Vicki; yes, I've tried that, too. There is absolutely no

Thanks for the suggestions.

[JAWS-Users] .NET SDE

2008-04-10 Thread Bill Gallik
Can anybody on this list advise me as to the accessibility of the .NET
programming environment via JAWS? What I'm specifically interested is:

- Is Visual Basic accessible via JAWS

- Is Visual C++ accessible via JAWS

- To what extent, if at all, are these programming tools usable by a totally
blind person

- What other aspects of the .NET SDE are usable by a totally blind person
and to what extent

Alix L., a Chicago reader, writes:
"NEWZ, help! I'm a little lost. What's the difference between a highway and
an expressway -- and a tollway, a skyway, a turnpike, a parkway and a
thruway?"
A highway is a major public road, usually connecting towns or cities.
A skyway is an elevated highway.
A parkway is a highway with a planted strip down the middle.
An expressway or a thruway is a highway designed for high-speed traffic.
A tollway or a turnpike is an expressway that collects tolls.
If you come upon an elevated highway designed for high-speed traffic with a
planted strip down the middle and tolls being collected, you are on your
own.
The Finnish word for "expressway" is "moottoritie," by the way.

Hi Mark,

Reese explained the way to make transfers with the Bank of America
clearly. Hopefully, the information helps you to do your transaction.
It's a shame that any little change to a web page throws us blind

Thanks Reese for providing the proper procedures for doing the
transfer transaction.

Re: [JAWS-Users] setting windows XP to classic

2008-04-10 Thread Rosemarie Chavarria
Hi, Shannon. I'll look on my Jaws basic training tapes. There's a section
on setting up windows XP to work well with Jaws. I forgot how to do it
myself because a relative set it up for me. If you like, I can write you
offlist with the information. I need to look it up first.

Hi, Michelle. Do you have tutorials on outlook express? Maybe you might
want to study them and see if there's a section on what to do to fix your
problem. Other than that, I don't know what else to tell you.

Yes, thank you, Rosemarie. I have checked there and apparently I am
doing everything right, that's why I sent out an email to the list to
see if anyone else has this problem, and it's odd that noone else
does. My sighted computer friend has checked it all out for me. Oh
well, thanks again!

Hi
I just made my first successful transfer on BOA. One thing I do need to
tell everyone is that you must select the options in the boxes. This is true
even when the appear to be on the right setting to start with.
Thank you to everyone for all your help.

God bless,

Re: [JAWS-Users] AVG8 and jaws

2008-04-10 Thread Negoslav Sabev
First I wanna say that I don't use AVG. Second - I admire the first
suggestion lol. Someone on the other list suggested the blind AVG users to
send some info to the company of what is jaws and what importance it has for
them as blind computer users so that such a suggestion could never repeat
again. You see, not everyone in the world know what the blind use. It's the
same for the other groups as deaf, brain damaged (sorry if that is not the
right word but English is not my native) and so on. We are the once to tell
them what we use and is important to us. May be that's good idea. Or we can
just switch to another antivirus software.

[JAWS-Users] Begin link, and end link message.

2008-04-10 Thread cutolo.albert
Good afternoon everyone ,

Lately, whenever I type a message in word, and then copy and paistit into an
email message that I want to send, It says, begin link, and end link. Even
if I send an email message with in outlook express six, with jaws nine, it
will say the same thing. I did a repair of jaws several weeks ago, when I
was getting that strange message when I went into word, the one that said,
unknown function called into word. I even went into the documents and
setting folder, application data microsoft, templatesfolder, and deleted the
normal dot doc thing, and it was to no avail. If anyone has any advice on
how to fix these errors, I'd very much appreciate it.
Thank's in advance,

Al

[JAWS-Users] tRe: Windows Standard in XP

2008-04-10 Thread Mike & Barbara
Hi Chrissy,

Follow these directions below from the jaws-users website and these steps
should get everything straightened out. Good luck.

Mike

Windows XP and JAWS

This topic discusses settings changes we recommend you make when using JAWS
in Windows XP Home or Professional. You must be logged in with
administrative rights to make several of these changes. Many of these
settings are changed within Control Panel. To open Control Panel, press the
WINDOWS KEY to open the Start Menu, move to Control Panel, and press ENTER.

Depending on your system settings, Control Panel either opens in a separate
window, or the Control Panel items open as a sub-menu. We recommend making
changes in the following areas:

List of 5 items
Display Properties
Folder Options
Start Menu
Windows Explorer System Performance
list end

Display Properties
List of 9 items
1. From the Control Panel, move to "Display" and press Enter.
2. From the themes combo box, select Windows XP.
3. In the List of backgrounds on the Desktop page, choose Bliss.
4. Set Position to "Stretch."
5. In the Screen Saver combo box on the Screen Saver page, press HOME to
select none.
6. On the Appearance page, set Windows and Buttons to Windows classic style.

often hide the menu item just below any given menu item, making it
impossible to visually see the next item in the menu list.
D. Move to the Apply to All Folders button and press SPACEBAR.
E. Select Yes in the dialog that opens to acknowledge this change.
5. Move to the OK button in the Folder Options dialog box and press SPACEBAR

Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] Windows Standard in XP

Hi,
I am forever trying to set my design options for xp to the windows standard,
to make it best for jaws.
I got into the menues there and set everything accordingly, I save this but
after a couple of reboots it goes back to the xp screen partially.
I would have not noticed buta sighted friend asked me about this. Like I
said it is not really bothering me that much other than I would like to know
why windows seems to not like my settings as I am afraid it will cause
problems later sometime to not have the right settings that work best.

thanks in advance for any hints,

greetings
chrissy

Re: [JAWS-Users] Ms office

2008-04-10 Thread Mike & Barbara
Hi Denny,

How does one turn on announce all commands in JAWS? I am running 2002 XP
Home, 2002 Office home, and JAWS 9. Thank you very much for your advice and
all of the knowledge you share with those of us who are on this list.

Mike

Another suggestion for learning Word 2007 is to turn on your announce all
commands in Jaws. Then when you press your alt key to access your ribbon,
you will hear the hotkey for accessing that item. When you are familiar
with the hotkeys, you can turn them off again.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Word 2003 question

Hi All, I'm using Jaws 9, XP and Word 2003. For the last couple days Jaws
has stopped providing some pretty helpful info such as when things are
indented, lists are bulleted, etc. I checked verbocity settings, and indent
identification and announce style changes are both still set to on. Any idea
what I've done to cause this change? Thank you.

Hi Bill,
VB6 is useable with Jaws
There is at least one member of this list that has been useing it
successfully,
perhaps he'll jump in here somewhere and tell you more.
As for Visual C++, I don't have any first-hand info on that programming
environment.
I tried checking out blindprogramming.com, but doesn't look like the site is
available right now.

"NEWZ, help! I'm a little lost. What's the difference between a highway and
an expressway -- and a tollway, a skyway, a turnpike, a parkway and a

A highway is a major public road, usually connecting towns or cities.
A skyway is an elevated highway.
A parkway is a highway with a planted strip down the middle.
An expressway or a thruway is a highway designed for high-speed traffic.
A tollway or a turnpike is an expressway that collects tolls.
If you come upon an elevated highway designed for high-speed traffic with a
planted strip down the middle and tolls being collected, you are on your
own.
The Finnish word for "expressway" is "moottoritie," by the way.

2008-04-10 Thread Denny Huff
Go to your Jaws window, an insert j will take you there.
If you have Jaws set to run in your system tray, then you will be placed on
the options menu, if not, then you will need to press your alt key and in
either case, press enter on options.
Press enter on, basics.
Tab one time to, access keys and up or down arrow to, speak all. At that
point you can press enter.
Now when you access your menu bar with the alt key, Jaws will announce the
hotkey it takes to get to that function.

Hi Denny,

How does one turn on announce all commands in JAWS? I am running 2002 XP
Home, 2002 Office home, and JAWS 9. Thank you very much for your advice and

all of the knowledge you share with those of us who are on this list.

Another suggestion for learning Word 2007 is to turn on your announce all
commands in Jaws. Then when you press your alt key to access your ribbon,
you will hear the hotkey for accessing that item. When you are familiar
with the hotkeys, you can turn them off again.

Hey Annette, it's Stanley Smith here. The view should be set to Normal

Check to see what your view is set to. I think mine is always set to "Print
view", but I'm not 100% about that, and I'm not sure that this is the
problem..

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Word 2003 question

Hi All, I'm using Jaws 9, XP and Word 2003. For the last couple days Jaws
has stopped providing some pretty helpful info such as when things are
indented, lists are bulleted, etc. I checked verbocity settings, and indent
identification and announce style changes are both still set to on. Any idea
what I've done to cause this change? Thank you.

Shari

Re: [JAWS-Users] Word 2003 question

2008-04-10 Thread Shari Weir
Thanks, Annette, I have tried both normal and print views, but neither
setting has made a difference. It's one of those crazy, quirky things that
seems to come out of nowhere. Sometimes when one of my sighted coworkers
uses my computer settings get changed a bit, but no one has used Word on my
computer for weeks, and this problem only started a couple days ago. A
coworker was using my computer recently to help reconfigure a presentation,
but that was in Powerpoint. I can't imagine that caused a change in Word,
but I'm trying to think of everything. If I hit insert f in Word, Jaws still
gives me the font, formatting, etc., so at least I can check stuff that way.
I don't understand, though, why Jaws is ignoring some of the verbocity
settings. Please pass along any other ideas.

Thank you,
Shari
