[JAWS-Users] formatting headers in Microsoft Word 2007

2010-03-24 Thread Chanelle Hill
Dear Jaws users,
I am trying to format a header in Word 2007 such that the abbreviated title
is flush left and the page number is flush right. I am writing a paper in APA
format. Is there a way to use Jaws to make sure that the heading and page
number are placed correctly? I don't think that the control l and control r
commands can be used on the same line. I have looked for instructions online,
but it is hard to follow visual commands.
I also need to create a table of contents in Word 2007. Are there any good
free or low cost resources detailing how to complete more advanced editing
tasks? I have looked through the Daisy files provided with Jaws, which were not
helpful.
Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

2010-03-24 Thread Shari
Hi, I can answer only the first part of your question regarding justifying
the text in the header. The control r and control l keys do work, with a
little added work. First type the text you want left justified. I believe in
a header this will automatically left justify, but to be safe, you can
select the text and use control l. Then type the text to be right justified;
select it and do the control r. Sorry I don't know the answer to the second
part of the question.

[JAWS-Users] jaws, dragon and windows 7 speech recognition

2010-03-24 Thread Dickson Tan
Hi

After hearing the review of windows 7 speech recognition from serotek's
podcast, I wanted to try out and see how jaws faired with it. System access
seems to be fully compatible with windows 7 speech recognition but when I
say something, jaws doesn't read what occurs. E.g when I dictate text into
word, it doesn't speak the new text that appears. This also holds true for
dragon naturallyspeaking 10.1

Are there any scripts to improve this?

Alt-delete will tell you the placement of the cursor from the left

sectioned into left/center/right. I would have to look that up in

Hello Su Lin:

I've looked into the question about using the MSAPI voices with JAWS.
With
the RealSpeak voices what version of JAWS is your friend using? What
might
be happening is that there is a tab signifying a ne page, or it is a

stripped out your friend can then copy the text from the NotePad file and
put it back into a new Word document and see if the tab is put back into

Not too sure what else I can suggest. That's about all I can suggest to

2010-03-24 Thread Gerald Levy

I reported the problem with the Control-K command to Jamal Mazrui, and he
agreed that it was an oversight on his part that would be fixed in the next
release of IEMax. Since Control-E is already assigned to the web search

command in the next release of IEMax.

place marker either in the list of commands for IE or the list for
IEMax. This is apparently a huge screw-up. Is there any easy way to
restore JAWS 9 to the exact state it was in before I installed the
IEMax scripts? Or have I lost the ability to add and locate temporary
place markers forever? As I said, pressing Control-K now invodes the
web search command, which is also invoked with Control-E. I don't
understand why two different keystrokes were assigned to the same

Re: [JAWS-Users] formatting headers in Microsoft Word 2007

2010-03-24 Thread David Griffith
These instructions apply to Word 2003 but there should be some 2007
equivalent.
1. Re justification of page number do this from the insert page number
function rather than working directly in the header or footer. In Word 2003
you simply go to insert and then page number on the menu bar and set the
options you want there. Hopefully somebody using 2007 can show you a quick
way to do this without having to tab or shift tab loads of times. As I
understand it in 2007 the secret is to be able to remember keystrokes to get
there quickly.

2. Similarly in 2003 for table of contents you simply go to the insert
menu, then reference, then index and contents .
Control tab until you hear the table of contents tab. Here you will find
options to automatically create tables of contents.
. The simplest way to do this is to let it create tables from headers that
you have inserted in the tables. You can then edit and tidy up the tables
automatically created if you want.
Someone else will have to tell you where table of contents is in 2007 but
you may get a clue from the above.

David Griffith

[JAWS-Users] Problem With JAWS Punctuation Settings

Hay steph, here is the answer from my friend about your question about
your

tabs it is directed at me but I just sent him your question in your own
words he had the same sort of Ida as I did but he said this. sue

Hello Su Lin:

I've looked into the question about using the MSAPI voices with JAWS.
With
the RealSpeak voices what version of JAWS is your friend using? What
might
be happening is that there is a tab signifying a ne page, or it is a
default
that Word is putting into your friend's document. What I can suggest to
try
first is copying all the text in the Word document and saving it in
NotePad
as a text file. Once that's done and all the codes from Word have been
stripped out your friend can then copy the text from the NotePad file and
put it back into a new Word document and see if the tab is put back into
the
file once its been saved.

Not too sure what else I can suggest. That's about all I can suggest to
do
in order to, hopefully, remove the tab.

Sorry it took so long for me to get back to you.

Calvin

Hello everyone I have a problem!
Normally when I'm using the Real-speak solo direct voices and I'm
reading a document of my own and when I'm looking at the end of a
chapter

it said tab just before it said End Of Chapter One!
How do I get rid of the tab problem?
I've already tried the backspace and all it does is put that particular
fraze on the same line as a sentance!
When I hit enter to put that particparticular fraze on a seperate line
it

just puts that stupid tab back in there!
Any suggestions would certainly be appreciated!
Thanks in advance!

Re: [JAWS-Users] Problem With JAWS Punctuation Settings

2010-03-24 Thread Gerald Levy

I unloaded my default JAWS 9, and launched my demo version of JAWS 10 which
does not have the IEMax scripts installed, and

the punctuation is fine. Interestingly, I notice when I close the
Configuration Manager in both JAWS 9 and JAWS 10 with Alt-F4, I don't get
the usual dialog prompt asking if you want to save the changes. So I wonder
if there is a problem with the Configuration Manager.

Hi listers. For some unknown reason, JAWS has suddenly
stopped speaking most punctuation when I browse the web
using IE 8. For example, google.com is now spoken as
google com without the period between google and com. I
checked the verbosity settings by pressing Insert-V, and
under the Edit Options, the punctuation level is set to
none. But when I checked the Customize Punctuation dialog
on the Set Options menu of the JAWS Configuration Manager,
the punctuation level is set to most. What am I missing

2010-03-24 Thread Kimsan
When you are in the message try shift-tabbing once and you should land on
your attachment, which will be a button so space bar to activate it and
proceed to save or open it.
If you already know that there is an attachment you can just skip that last
step, press alt-f and down arrow until you hear save attachments, press
enter, if there are more than one attachment, press spacebar on the select
all button, and press enter on ok to finish it out.
Another way to find out if there is an attachment in your email, once you
are in the message press the jaws key followed by the letter A and it should
announce if there is an attachment...

Re: [JAWS-Users] formatting headers in Microsoft Word 2007

2010-03-24 Thread brianllee
Hello Chanelle,

There is a quick way to have a part of a line left-aligned and another part
right-aligned whether working in a document pane or in a header/footer pane.
First type the information that you want to be left-aligned in a blank header.
However, do not use spaces between the words but instead use nonbreaking
spaces. A nonbreaking space can be inserted using CTRL+shift+spacebar. Make
sure there are no hard spaces between any of the words you want left-aligned.
After typing the information that you want to be left-aligned using only
nonbreaking spaces between the words, use a hard space. After the hard space
insert your page field using the design tab on the ribbon. Do not use a space
after the page field. Immediately after inserting the page field use CTRL+J.
Immediately after using CTRL+J use a shift+enter command to force a line break.
This procedure will left-align the title and right-align the page number field.

If you were right-aligning more than the page number field then you would also
need to use nonbreaking spaces between words to be right-aligned.

Feel free to E-mail me if you need any further clerification.

To create a table of contents use Alt key followed by S followed by T. A list
of choices will be presented. The automatic choices will build a table of
contents based on headings 1 through 3 in your document. You should move the
cursor to the point where you want the table of contents to be placed before
creating it. If you don't want to use the automatic choices you can choose
manual or the table of contents dialog box. The manual choice will insert
fields to be filled in. The dialog box will give you options and allow you to
choose different options. After creating the table of contents you might need
to use CTRL+enter key to insert a page break, as the automatic tables are not
kept on their own page.

Take care.

Dear Jaws users,
I am trying to format a header in Word 2007 such that the abbreviated title

I also need to create a table of contents in Word 2007. Are there any good

Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for that explanation, Mike. But as I mentioned in my previous

Hello Chanelle,

There is a quick way to have a part of a line left-aligned and another
part right-aligned whether working in a document pane or in a
header/footer pane. First type the information that you want to be
left-aligned in a blank header. However, do not use spaces between the
words but instead use nonbreaking spaces. A nonbreaking space can be
inserted using CTRL+shift+spacebar. Make sure there are no hard spaces
between any of the words you want left-aligned. After typing the
information that you want to be left-aligned using only nonbreaking spaces
between the words, use a hard space. After the hard space insert your
page field using the design tab on the ribbon. Do not use a space after
the page field. Immediately after inserting the page field use CTRL+J.
Immediately after using CTRL+J use a shift+enter command to force a line
break. This procedure will left-align the title and right-align the page
number field.

If you were right-aligning more than the page number field then you would
also need to use nonbreaking spaces between words to be right-aligned.

Feel free to E-mail me if you need any further clerification.

To create a table of contents use Alt key followed by S followed by T. A
list of choices will be presented. The automatic choices will build a
table of contents based on headings 1 through 3 in your document. You
should move the cursor to the point where you want the table of contents
to be placed before creating it. If you don't want to use the automatic
choices you can choose manual or the table of contents dialog box. The
manual choice will insert fields to be filled in. The dialog box will
give you options and allow you to choose different options. After
creating the table of contents you might need to use CTRL+enter key to
insert a page break, as the automatic tables are not kept on their own
page.

Take care.

I also need to create a table of contents in Word 2007. Are there any
good free or low cost resources detailing how to complete more advanced
editing tasks? I have looked through the Daisy files provided with Jaws,
which were not helpful.

Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
   Thank you.

When using the calculator in windows 7 or any calculator for that matter on
the computer there is one thing I have never been able to figure out.

When I am typing in numbers what is the command to go back and check what I

Actually, I find these scripts very useful. Since I run JAWS 9 as my
default which doesn't have the Research It feature of JAWS 11, IEMax
provides much of the same functionality of this feature, not to mention some
other cool features like a read clipboard command.

Do you feel there is enough benefit to the scripts for the

After some investigating, I discovered the cause of my JAWS
punctuation problem. I must have accidently pressed
Insert-`, which is the IEMax keystroke for toggling between
all punctuation and no punctuation. So I set the toggle to
all punctuation, and everything is back to normal.

Sue,
The calculator keys are like this.
When the Numlock key is engaged, the large key, normally Insert or the Jaws
key is your 0. On the right side, the keys which are normally Enter, PC
Cursor and Jaws cursor are:

Enter, Plus and Minus.
At the top of the calculator keyboard, the keys read like this,
NUMLOCK, DIVIDEED BY, TIMES, MINUS.
That is farely common to most modern calculator keyboards. I'm not sure

[JAWS-Users] Word question

2010-03-24 Thread rich
I have JAWS 10.00 and XP home.

My sighted wife noticed that in Word, that paragraph symbols are appearing
and can not be removed.
She also says when she tries to go to another line, she is dropped 3 to 5 lines
down.

I've noticed, while in JAWS, I may try to edit an existing document and the
curser controls do not move as it should. For example, I will delete a letter
and when I go to read the work many more letters will have been deleted.

Thanks for any help.

Simply route jaws to PC and review the numbers that way, there's really no
magic to it at all.

Hi John;

Using the calculator on the computer is something that I have never played
with. When using Keyboard Help, Jaws only reads Slash Star for the Divide
Multiply keys. Although Jaws only reads Slash Star, can these 2 keys
still be used as Divide Multiply keys? I am using a Microsoft Natural
Ergonomic 101 / 102 key, keyboard. All help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks much. Take care.
Mike

  Sue,
The calculator keys are like this.
When the Numlock key is engaged, the large key, normally Insert or the
Jaws
key is your 0.
I'm not sure
that this is what you were looking for.
