Back to the ResearchIt lookup of NFL scores. It seems everybody

preseason schedules screwed up. I thought the Eagles were

playing the New
York Giants, because that was what was in the TV listings. ESPN

had several
of the games wrong until at least half time. Now they correctly

show the

Eagles playing the New York Jets and even have the score right.

Sorry, this is definitely not a FS issue!

Now I need to look around in the new Settings Center because

automatic Forms

Overall it seems more stable as far as being an initial beta

than other
upgrades. No real major issues to speak of so far. I am

however noticing

some things, such as:

1. For whatever reason, in Google Reader via IE8, Jaws does

feel a bit
sluggish and unresponsive at times. Silence, slow to respond to

commands,
randomly being placed on other parts of the page, having to tab

or shift

tab
to get focus back, etc. I don't find this to be the case when

in Firefox
though. It doesn't stop me from getting around Google Reader

all together,
but it is affecting my navigation. I don't' have this amount of

trouble

when
using JFW 11 and IE8.

2. Again, in Google Reader, but this time from within Firefox,

when
clickin on a particular subscription feed or by doing a simple

search from
within the overall page and navegating down the various entries

using the

h
key for headings, Jaws will read a bunch of garbled link text

instead of
that particular heading title. I've found that when going in

reverse,
(shift+h instead of just h) Jaws reads the entry titles

perfectly fine.

This
isn't an issue in IE8 at all. I had reported this glitch in

prior

releases,
but it's still present in version 12.

3. Jaws seems to have a lot of trouble with Firefox webpages

that have
a lot of links. When encountering a page with hundreds either

by visiting

a
blog posting with hundreds of responces or if I'm searching for

an item to
buy and want all results shown on one page or again, if I'm in

Google

Reader
and press the navigation button to have all my subscriptions

appear (I

have
over 240 rss feeds for example(, JFW will become quite

unresponsive and at
times crash on me. Many times I almost have to step away from

my machine
since Jaws wont' even speak if I do an alt+tab to go to another

app. This

is
especially an issue for me as I help my wife with her eBay store

and when
going into the seller's page, it takes forever for Jaws to talk.

That is

if
I'm in fact lucky and JFW doesn't crash all together. I don't

have this
problem in IE8. I really started noticing this issue with JFW

11 and still

with version 12.

4. I had reported a problem when upgrading from JFW 10 to 11

with all
the information in my e-mails through Outlook 2003 (from,

subject, date

etc)
being spoken twice when arrowing up and down the list view. I

was able to
reproduce this problem with the escalations department (Inquiry

Number:
197907), but never got a solution to it. The same problem is

present in

version 12.

I like the way how the configuration manager has been cleaned up

and

Firefox
feels generally crisper than in versions past. Google Voice

seems to be a
lot cleaner through Mozilla than with IE. Not too easy if at

all when

trying
to make calls through the gmail page itself though.

I I appreciate the request for feedback and hope my comments

have helped

in
some way.

Thanks,
Cris

So far I like the Settings Center. It's a major improvement from the

feature just as the Windows 7 search is much improved from that of Vista and

2010-09-02 Thread Lenny McHugh

   Hello Eric,
From what little that I have had time to try there still are a lot of

problems with windows live mail
When I try to reply more often than not I get an error contact name field
not found
I then need to refresh and page up even though the reply address has been
placed in the to field.
The reply to sender no longer gives an error message but places the
incorrect address in the to field. For instance I just tested by using jaws
key, shift r and it placed the first contact in the to field not your
address.
In a new message trying to go through the contact list only email addresses
are read not the individual's name.

There is nothing strange about this. I am also using JAWS 9 with XP Pro,

2010-09-02 Thread Don Marang
This is a minor issue and probably not the fault of Freedom Scientific. I
am watching preseason football, advertised as live. It is my Eagles hosting
the New York Giants here at Lincoln Field in Philadelphia, which started at
7:30 pm EST. I attempted to get the latest score using ResearchIt. It does
not show the Eagles playing today. It does show the Giants playing the
Patriots and the score seems about right. The new JAWS 12 link, a great
addition takes me to the ESPN website for more details about aficticeous
game! I realize that all Philadelphians are Patriots, but could ESPN really
be that clueless? How can they update stats on the wrong team?

Hi Jim,

We have moved away from the traditional Config Manager and put these into
the "Settings Center". Read the description below and experiment with the
settings center using the new search option to find these items. I think
you'll get the hang of it.

Regards,
Eric

Settings Center

JAWS Settings Center is a new feature that allows you to quickly configure
and globally apply JAWS settings, or configure and apply settings for a
specific application. It consolidates all options into one convenient
dialog box. It includes a Search edit box, which provides an extremely
fast way to find and edit JAWS functionality. Settings Center continues to
use JCF files and is a direct replacement for Configuration Manager.

Settings Center consists of six primary areas described below. Press TAB
or SHIFT+TAB to move through different parts of the dialog box.

* Application combo box: Select an application from the list to modify its
settings for use with JAWS. To retrieve the JAWS default settings, press
CTRL+SHIFT+D. To retrieve application settings, press SHIFT+TAB to move
focus to the Application combo box. Next, select the application from the
combo box, and then press TAB to move focus back to the tree view pane.
* Search edit box: Press CTRL+E to move focus to the Search box. Type a
search word or phrase in the edit box to reduce the number of items that
appear in the tree view list. Press DOWN ARROW to move to search results,
and then press ENTER to move focus directly to that item in the tree view.
* Settings tree view pane: Use the tree view pane to select and change
settings for the selected application. To retrieve the JAWS default
settings, press CTRL+SHIFT+D. To retrieve application settings, press
SHIFT+TAB twice to move focus to the Application combo box. Next, select
the application from the combo box, and then press TAB to move focus back
to the tree view pane. For a brief description of the item selected in the
tree view, press TAB to move focus to the read-only edit box. Use the Say
Line or Say All commands to read the help message. To vertically scroll

Re: [JAWS-Users] How is JAWS 12 Public Beta working out for users?

2010-09-02 Thread Eric Damery
Hi Jim,

We have moved away from the traditional Config Manager and put these into the
"Settings Center". Read the description below and experiment with the settings
center using the new search option to find these items. I think you'll get the
hang of it.

Regards,
Eric

Settings Center

JAWS Settings Center is a new feature that allows you to quickly configure and
globally apply JAWS settings, or configure and apply settings for a specific
application. It consolidates all options into one convenient dialog box. It
includes a Search edit box, which provides an extremely fast way to find and
edit JAWS functionality. Settings Center continues to use JCF files and is a
direct replacement for Configuration Manager.

Settings Center consists of six primary areas described below. Press TAB or
SHIFT+TAB to move through different parts of the dialog box.

* Application combo box: Select an application from the list to modify
its settings for use with JAWS. To retrieve the JAWS default settings, press
CTRL+SHIFT+D. To retrieve application settings, press SHIFT+TAB to move focus
to the Application combo box. Next, select the application from the combo box,
and then press TAB to move focus back to the tree view pane.
* Search edit box: Press CTRL+E to move focus to the Search box. Type a
search word or phrase in the edit box to reduce the number of items that appear
in the tree view list. Press DOWN ARROW to move to search results, and then
press ENTER to move focus directly to that item in the tree view.
* Settings tree view pane: Use the tree view pane to select and change
settings for the selected application. To retrieve the JAWS default settings,
press CTRL+SHIFT+D. To retrieve application settings, press SHIFT+TAB twice to
move focus to the Application combo box. Next, select the application from the
combo box, and then press TAB to move focus back to the tree view pane. For a
brief description of the item selected in the tree view, press TAB to move
focus to the read-only edit box. Use the Say Line or Say All commands to read
the help message. To vertically scroll through the tree view, use the UP and
DOWN ARROW keys, PAGE UP and PAGE DOWN keys, or first letter navigation. Use
the LEFT and RIGHT ARROW keys to expand or collapse tree view groups. Use the
SPACEBAR to move through and change settings for each option.
* Configuration display pane: As you move through the tree view, a
sighted user can simultaneously track cursor movement using the configuration
display pane. Press F6 to switch between the tree view and this pane. This is
necessary when typing in an edit or edit spin box.
* Help message pane: Displays context-sensitive help for the item
currently selected in the tree view. Use the Say Line or Say All commands to
read the help message.
* Apply, OK, and Cancel: Use Apply to make changes. Use OK to save
changes and close Settings Center. Use Cancel to close Settings Center without
saving changes.

To use Settings Center, do the following:

1. Press INSERT+F2, and select Settings Center. Settings appear for the
application that has focus. The cursor is in the Search edit box.
2. If you know the setting that you want to change, type a term for it in
the edit box. For example, type the word "braille" without the quotes for a
filtered list of braille settings. Next, press DOWN ARROW to move to the
filtered results in the tree view.

Note: To load the default JAWS settings, press CTRL+SHIFT+D, and then search
for the setting as previously described.

To select a different application, press SHIFT+TAB to move to the Application
edit box. Use ARROW Keys or first letter navigation to select the application,
and then press CTRL+E to search for the setting as previously described.

3. Press SPACEBAR to select check boxes, radio buttons, or other buttons,
and press F6 to switch between an edit box and the tree view to change settings.
4. Choose Apply to apply changes and remain in Settings Center, OK to save
changes and exit Settings Center, or Cancel to close Settings Center without
saving changes. The new settings are saved to the appropriate JCF file.

Re: [JAWS-Users] How is JAWS 12 Public Beta working out for users?

2010-09-02 Thread CrisMunoz54
Overall it seems more stable as far as being an initial beta than other
upgrades. No real major issues to speak of so far. I am however noticing
some things, such as:

1. For whatever reason, in Google Reader via IE8, Jaws does feel a bit
sluggish and unresponsive at times. Silence, slow to respond to commands,
randomly being placed on other parts of the page, having to tab or shift tab
to get focus back, etc. I don’t find this to be the case when in Firefox
though. It doesn’t stop me from getting around Google Reader all together,
but it is affecting my navigation. I don’t’ have this amount of trouble when
using JFW 11 and IE8.

2. Again, in Google Reader, but this time from within Firefox, when
clickin on a particular subscription feed or by doing a simple search from
within the overall page and navegating down the various entries using the h
key for headings, Jaws will read a bunch of garbled link text instead of
that particular heading title. I’ve found that when going in reverse,
(shift+h instead of just h) Jaws reads the entry titles perfectly fine. This
isn’t an issue in IE8 at all. I had reported this glitch in prior releases,
but it’s still present in version 12.

3. Jaws seems to have a lot of trouble with Firefox webpages that have
a lot of links. When encountering a page with hundreds either by visiting a
blog posting with hundreds of responces or if I’m searching for an item to
buy and want all results shown on one page or again, if I’m in Google Reader
and press the navigation button to have all my subscriptions appear (I have
over 240 rss feeds for example(, JFW will become quite unresponsive and at
times crash on me. Many times I almost have to step away from my machine
since Jaws wont’ even speak if I do an alt+tab to go to another app. This is
especially an issue for me as I help my wife with her eBay store and when
going into the seller’s page, it takes forever for Jaws to talk. That is if
I’m in fact lucky and JFW doesn’t crash all together. I don’t have this
problem in IE8. I really started noticing this issue with JFW 11 and still
with version 12.

4. I had reported a problem when upgrading from JFW 10 to 11 with all
the information in my e-mails through Outlook 2003 (from, subject, date etc)
being spoken twice when arrowing up and down the list view. I was able to
reproduce this problem with the escalations department (Inquiry Number:
197907), but never got a solution to it. The same problem is present in
version 12.

I like the way how the configuration manager has been cleaned up and Firefox
feels generally crisper than in versions past. Google Voice seems to be a
lot cleaner through Mozilla than with IE. Not too easy if at all when trying
to make calls through the gmail page itself though.

I I appreciate the request for feedback and hope my comments have helped in
some way.

Thanks,
Cris

Personally my only real advice is to take advantage of the "search Box" in
the start menu. I think it will help you locate what you are looking for
much faster. For example, If I want to get to Microsoft outlook quickly I
just type the letter o and it comes up right away, or if I want to use
Internet Explorer I just type the letters I n and it comes up right away.
Other people will have different ideas of course but this works for me.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Populating problem

2010-09-02 Thread TJ McElroy gMail
Hello William,

Your message did not mention the name of the global address book that you are
having trouble with.

However, I do have an idea of what you can do. Open your favorite text
editor. Open the global address book that you are having trouble with and copy
one of the addresses, then try to paste that address into a text file.

This should let you know if it is allowing Jaws / your system to copy and
paste the address.

While I was in school, they switched to an online email program. Whenever I
tried to copy the instructor's email from the message, Jaws would read that the
address was copied, but when I pasted the address there was always extra data
in the pasted address.

As a work around I always pasted the address into a text editor to clean it
up before I used it in the email program.

If you have to cc many different people, it may be helpful to copy the
address one by one paste them into a text file, clean them up and add the comma
separating the addresses and then paste them all at one time into the intended
message.

HTH,

TJ

I'm using the latest version of jaws 11 and I'm interested in getting into
skype for the first time.

Is there anything special I need to do to skype for jaws to operate
properly?

Do I need specific jaws scripts?

I understand there's some generic scripts called skypetalking, will I need
and/or want to install these with jaws?

thanx,

Have you updated JAWS 11 to the latest build of 11.0.1467? If not, you
can get it at:
http://www.freedomscientific.com/downloads/jaws/jaws-downloads.asp

If it is still happening, it would be good if you could contact our
Support and they will give you some instructions to submit a Dump of
JAWS at the time of the crash of IE so we can help analyze what might be
happening. If you have a place where this happens regularly , that would
be most helpful. Also, please watch for the JAWS 12 Public Beta which
should be posted around noon time today. It would be more helpful for
you to also verify if it is still happening even with JAWS 12 when you
can get it installed.

With IE 8 you can set multiple pages to start up. In the options menu
you

place an address on separate lines. With the latest jaws 11 I can not
read

the lines. everything is run together and can only read first and last

address. This is on a win 7 machine any suggestions?

Re: [JAWS-Users] JAWS 12 public beta now out!

2010-09-02 Thread CrisMunoz54
I'm finding it to be a bit on the sluggish/unresponsive side when in IE8 and
Google Reader. That and focusing still seems to be an issue. I'm playing
with the new settings set up and it feels a lot cleaner and less convoluted.

I still have the problem with all the information (from, subject, date etc(
being spoken twice in Outlook 2003 as is the prior JFW 11 versions. This
particular flaw I was able to confirm with tech support and their escalation
desk too and I believe others on this or other Jaws/tech lists also
mentioned it.

I'm going to keep playing with it today and see what else I may find.

If you are still using Jaws 9, with IE 8, you definitely want to go to Jaws
10. It works MUCH better with IE 8. I had moved from Jaws 6.2 (which I
used for about 3 years) to Jaws 9. I had lots of problems and crashes.
Finally made the move to version 10 and everything works much better.

Thanks John,

It is Windows Vista. It hasn't always been like this but I don't know that I
always had IE8. I suspect it appeared with one of those Windows updates
because I discovered a load of those additional security features in the
Tools menu after trouble began, things I hadn't noticed there before and I
would have when first setting up this computer.

Dale,
Which version of MS windows are you using? I have minimal problems on my
laptop running windows 7 and IE 8 versus the lockups with IE 8 and windows
vista. I have not figured out what is happening when a lock up occurs but
usually have just thought my fingers were going to fast and that locked up
the computer. But if so, seems like the lock up problem would be similar
on

both systems.
But again, many more problems with vista and IE8. I will probably upgrade
the vista system as that computer is only 1 years old.
In any event, I always try to avoid just turning the computer off as a
remedy but rather try and get the system to shutdown normally. As to a
remedy, if after numerous alt plus F4 commands I do not get speech to come
back and or I try reloading the jaws program, I go to the shutdown command
to let the system shutdown so I can reboot the system. No doubt you will
have no speech doing this. On vista that command sequence is:
1. windows key plus letter M to minimize to the desk top.
2. windows key to bring up search dialogue box.
3. right arrow twice to get placed on the shutdown command and press
enter.

On windows 7 system.
1. windows key plus letter M to go to desktop.
2. windows key to bring up search box on the start menue.
3. right arrow only once and press enter to shutdown the computer.
I sure think it is best when you lose speech after some sort of lock up to
try and get the computer to shut down normally so you can reboot the
system,

especially on the windows vista computer.
And of course you can always try the alt plus control alt keys and delete
key to bring up the task manager which sometimes brings back speech.
Good luck
John

[JAWS-Users] Question About Creating Research It Item

2010-09-02 Thread Mark
Hi
I am interested in having such places as E-Bay, Amazon, and Wallmart.com
in the research it function. It seems to me that I should be able to create
such a research it tool item. However, after reading the manual I just feel
confused. Do I need some type of special code editor to be able to create a
research it search function?

God bless,

configuration while in the jaws dictionary.

I'm using JAWS 11 and the control shift D will not open up the default
dictionary. Suggestions?

Re: [JAWS-Users] IE 8 and jaws 11 lockup?

2010-09-02 Thread john R. Vaughn
Dale,
Which version of MS windows are you using? I have minimal problems on my
laptop running windows 7 and IE 8 versus the lockups with IE 8 and windows
vista. I have not figured out what is happening when a lock up occurs but
usually have just thought my fingers were going to fast and that locked up
the computer. But if so, seems like the lock up problem would be similar on
both systems.
3. right arrow twice to get placed on the shutdown command and press enter.
On windows 7 system.
1. windows key plus letter M to go to desktop.
2. windows key to bring up search box on the start menue.
3. right arrow only once and press enter to shutdown the computer.
I sure think it is best when you lose speech after some sort of lock up to
try and get the computer to shut down normally so you can reboot the system,
especially on the windows vista computer.
And of course you can always try the alt plus control alt keys and delete
key to bring up the task manager which sometimes brings back speech.
Good luck
John

Is anyone else having trouble with IE8 crashing frequently on Web pages?

Very frequently I get a message that Internet Explorer has encountered an
error on the Web page and will be shut down or that there is trouble with
the page and it will be shut down. It will try to recover and sometimes it
does but more frequently JAWS locks up and there isn't anything to solve it
but to press the power button and restart the computer.

I wonder if it is something to do with those security settings or something
like that although I have no good reason beyond suspicion for that.

Can I be the only one with this problem?

Thanks.

[JAWS-Users] ms access

2010-09-02 Thread John W. Carty
Is anyone out there using jaws with access 2010? If so, are there any special
configuring required?

Are there any particular limitations or accessibility problems?

Does anyone know and/or expect what jaws 12 will do with access?

Thanx,

John

Re: [JAWS-Users] IE 8 and jaws 11 start up

2010-09-02 Thread Eric Damery

Regards,
Eric
