[JAWS-Users] Two JAWS 12 strange issues

2010-09-11 Thread chris hallsworth

Hello all.
Only started literally minutes ago.
Using the public beta, I had JAWS repeating stuff in Thunderbird, like
when I read character by character, line by line it reads the character
or line twice. I also hear JAWS speak dialogue boxes that don't really
exist.
Anyone else having these issues? Of course these don't have to be
Thunderbird and IDM; I am just stating what's happening at my end.
A reload of JAWS has heped but am still curious so I could fill out a
bug report if necessary.

Many thanks.

A correction.
I managed to click on something with the JAWS cursor. So the dialogue
box did exist but wasn't showing on the taskbar. So ignore second issue
please.

Many thanks.

Re: [JAWS-Users] laptop doesn't show on AC power

2010-09-11 Thread john R. Vaughn

You could have a bad power cord or it is not properly attached. Or the
battery could be really old or damaged and needs to be replaced. thirdly,
the computer has a problem charging and that is where the problem lies. So
I would eliminate possible problems.
I would suggest you see if the power cord is working.
1. shut down the computer.
2. take the battery out of the computer.
3. be sure your power cord is properly attached to the computer and the wall
outlet and that this wall outlet works. also be sure any other connections
in the power cord are attached.
4. turn on your computer now and if it boots up then you know your power
cord is working and you have another problem.
good luck.

My laptop is about four years old. Maybe that is the issue. However, in the
system tray instead of it saying on AC power it says 88 percent plugged in
not charging. This percentage keeps dropping. I tried unplugging the power
chord to let the battery run down and then plugging the power chord back in
to charge the battery but the percentage keeps dropping. What's going to
happen when the percentage get's to five percent or lower will the laptop
still work when the AC chord is plugged in?

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Voice Settings

Hi List,

I've been brushing up on my jaws skills lately and I'm slightly
stumped on
what I've done wrong.

I'm using jfw version 11.0.1467 and I'm trying to sort out the voice
profiles. When I open them, I don't see the dialogue that I know is
supposed to be there for changing the Synthesizer language. Can anyone
tell
me what to do to make it reappear? Or am I looking in the wrong place.

Thanks loads.

Kerry

Sometimes you need to check the place where you connectt eh power cord to
the laptop. That connection might be loose. Just push it in all the way

My laptop is about four years old. Maybe that is the issue. However, in
the system tray instead of it saying on AC power it says 88 percent
plugged in not charging. This percentage keeps dropping. I tried
unplugging the power chord to let the battery run down and then plugging
the power chord back in to charge the battery but the percentage keeps
dropping. What's going to happen when the percentage get's to five percent
or lower will the laptop still work when the AC chord is plugged in?

2010-09-11 Thread Mike Barbara Arcadia
Hi Jenny;

Try the following.
From: Dana S. Leslie
dsles...@alumni.princeton.edu
If you are using Windows Xp, here is what you do:
Press the Windows Key then press escape to be in an empty Taskbar, press the
applications key / right click to open the context menu, arrow to
properties, and press enter. This will take you
to the Taskbar properties dialogue. The Notification Area Hide inactive
icons checkbox must be checked for the next step to work. Press alt + C,
for Notification Area Customize..., this opens a list of all
the icons that can appear in the system tray. Scroll down the list till you
find the one you're interested in. Press right arrow, and you will be in a
drop down that offers three choices: Hide when Inactive, Never Show, and
Always show. Select Always Show, and left arrow. Press Enter twice, to save
your changes, and exit.

HOWEVER, I have found that, even though you set a particular icon to Always
Show, some icons have a nasty habit of reverting to Hide When Inactive (the
default), for no reason I have been able to ascertain. If this is the case
with the icon you are concerned with, you will simply have to continually
reset it. I don't know of any way around this apparent. bug.

I simply uncheck the box that says HideInactive, that way I know what's
running. Some things I don't want to run, but it will come on when you start
up, even reverts back after you take it out of the start page. My quickTime
has a nasty habit of doing this; also I must log out of the VPN client when
I get off work, and I found out that it does not show in the system tray
when HideiInactive is checked.

... Just a thought.
