I just bought the one voice. There's a stand alone program called Ivona mini
reader that is free but I could never get it to work for me.

Hello all.

From an accessibility podcast this week I found out about some new high

quality TTS voices called IVONA voices. A URL is pasted below.

I am particularly interested in using Salli and Amy voices with JFW. I would
like to know if these voices (and I reckon my Question applies to the other
voices of IVONA on the page at the pasted URL) will work with JAWS. I ask
this as a lot of voices say from NEXTUP.com only work with their own TTS
like software and don't allow the freedom of using those voices
independently with JFW.

I tried to use IVONa's contact form but my JFW11 cant seem to work with that
form. Hence the question to this list.

They do! but, in all honesty: I can't say that I was overly impressed. To
date, I haven't found
anything that matches the purity of Eloquence. Certainly, it does make errors
in pronunciation
occasionally, but such occasions are, surprisingly, rare, and can usually be
fixed by a bit of
imaginative fonetic tinkering in the Jaws dictionary.

2011-08-30 Thread Victoria Vaughan

Thank you for your thoughts on my TV tuner problem!

The problem I have, is that my duel tuner only now works on one source.

I have not been successful in finding a replacement duel tuner.

What I did, was to buy a Win Hauppauge single tuner card and also install
it. Perhaps my problems stem from the two cards not wanting to play nice
with each other.

My computer is a laptop and is probably about 6 years old.

Thanks much for any help! Vicky

Hi Victoria, why would you need a second TV tuner card for playing
DVDs and movies? Modern Windows computers should be able to do that
right out of the box. TV tuner cards only give access to television
stations, and one, especially if it has two or more "tuners" so it can
access multiple channels at once, should be more than sufficient.

Cheers,

Hello Mandy;

If you want to hear unread messages you can do the following;

You need to label the jaws graphics for the unread, and attachments.

To do this try the following;

In Windows Live Mail Do the following steps to label the "unread" and
"attachment" graphics in the message list, so they will be announced.

1. First make sure that within the Windows Live Mail application that it is
configured to read labeled graphics. Without Configuration Manager set this

way, the message status will never get read.

2. Temporarily set the verbosity to read all graphics by pressing
Insert+V=adjust jaws options, now press the letter G until you hear
"Graphics". Press the Spacebar until it announces "all",

then press Enter. .

3. Move to an unread message, then route the JAWS Cursor to the PC Cursor by
pressing Insert + NumPad minus (-).

If your using a laptop layout, you would press caps-lock-key+left bracket.

4. Navigate to the left of the unnamed graphic message by pressing
Ctrl+Left-arrow.

5. Press Insert+G to label the graphic. Type in "unread" without the quotes,
and press Enter-key.

6. Press the NumPad plus to make certain that the PC Cursor is enabled.

7. Move to a message with an attachment, then route the JAWS Cursor to the
PC Cursor.

8. Move on top of the unnamed graphic to the left of the message by pressing
Ctrl+Left-arrow.

9. Press Insert+G to label the graphic. Type in "attachment" without the
quotes, and press Enter.

10. Press the NumPad plus to make certain that the PC Cursor is enabled.

11. Set the verbosity back to read labeled graphics by pressing
Insert+V=adjust jaws options, then press G until you hear "Graphics".
Insert+Press
Space until it announces "labeled",

then press Enter.

Hope this is helpful.

Look in the vew menu of a received message. it has to do with Windows
encoding. there is

an Encoding submenu, which lists all the windows encoding types. the one
I have checked is Western European iso, and I never have the problem
(although I've heard of it in the past from people who had. That's the

Re: [JAWS-Users] Purchasing Voices for JAWS

2011-08-30 Thread Dujari, Prateek
Also with the Acapela voices u must be very careful as many of their voices
only work with Textallowed and wont with JAWs. they have a smaller list of
English voices in American or Aussie or Brit accents that will work with 3rd
party screen readers like JAWS but for those to be used on your computer you
will have to download the 'infovox' software from the nextup site and pay like
a few hundred dollars to download their voices which again are limited to a set
of 3 or 4 voices only. they only sell voices in sets and each set has 3-4
voices and each set costs a few hundred dolars.

I love Heather US English and can afford it so I have it on both my laptops.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Purchasing Voices for JAWS

2011-08-30 Thread Lisa belville

Hi, Eric.
I still have the original real speak voices I got with JAWS 8 as well as
the ones from JAWS 10.

If there's a place to purchase these or something similar on the FS web
site, I couldn't find it.

Hi Lisa,

I don't know about that site but I wanted to let you know that there might
be additional Real Speak voices for you to try at Freedomscientific.com
I don't know how many voices came on your original CD and they may have
added others. Also, I do use some of the occapella voices on my Mac and I
do like them.

If you do try Tracy let us know how it goes. I'm certainly interested.

Hello all. I have one of the earlier JFW12 versions from many months ago.
If I download and run the executablefile for the latest JFW12 version
released this month from the site below, then:
1. will jFW detect that I've already an earlier version of JFW 12 installed
and just update my JFW12 accordingly instead of wiping out the earlier JFW
12 settings forcing me to customize from scratch?
2. Or this update for me would be totally transparent in every respect
including voice, my key label settings (this is the really long list of key
labels I can set for JAWS to speak or not) and all the custom settings?

Once again I intend to download the executable for the latest release from
the URL below and then just run that executable.

Unless,

When your up arrowing, do you see name of account, and does it say open? Close?

I have 2 accounts within WLM, and I see both inboxes, sent items, etc.

I turned off, the quick view,
And I turned off the,
Storage folder.

I also whent into,
Quick view, alt+v, then the letter's "v"&"q",

And made sure everything is unchecked.

Hi list. I have just started having a focus issue with Jaws 12 and google
using IE 8. For example. I have google as my home page when I launch IE 8.
However, I am finding that I am not able to enter any text in the search
edit field of google. I am not sure. If forms mode is not coming on
properly? As even if I press enter to manually go into forms mode? I do
not always hear Jaws report that it has come on. And yet other times it
does. But I am still not able to enter text. I have tried refreshing the
page with Jaws key and escape. I have unloaded and restarted Jaws. Still
with no luck. I don't seem to have any problem using google with Firefox.
But like I said. Today the google search box using IE8 isn't working. A
family member, said that the search box does seem to be smaller than
usual. I don't know if that is relevant or not? I tried doing a repair on
Jaws 12. But I couldn't find a repair option like in earlier versions of
Jaws. I tried running the Jaws 12 installation file again. To see if that
would give me a repair option? But it reported that this version was
already found, and that the installation couldn't proceed. Is there still
a repair option in Jaws 12? Or can anyone help resolve my issue regarding
the edit box in google?

Thanks Jason

Re: [JAWS-Users] Email with windows 7

2011-08-30 Thread inthane

here's my list of clients that we know are useable:
* MS outlook: it's a good mail client (among other things), has a lot in it,
and any version from 2003 and up will work fine in win 7. you can also buy
just the outlook application for between 50 to 90 dollars average on the
web.
* thunderbird: this is a free independent mail client that will work, is
well thought of by many, and a quick google will find it for you. I have the
URL for some jaws scripts that make it work a little better if you want to
try them.
* Eudora: another independent mail client, this one has been around for a
long time, it seems that it's no longer being supported, but the last made
version works in win 7.
* windows live mail: the newest and most recommended (by MS and some sighted
folk) mail client. this one still has interaction troubles with jaws, and
opinions run about 50/50 either they love it, or they hate it. I have some
light scripts that can help with this one a little bit as well.
* and a final one; , windows mail, the client that was with vista is on your
computer, but was disabled and hidden away. I have a pack of information and
registry fix files that can enable it for you if you feel competent with
registry fixes and wish to use it.but... it has been said that it can mess
up one's ability to download service packs to windows 7 so is not a
"recommended client" by many!

Re: [JAWS-Users] how do you do a video card and processor for new laptop

2011-08-30 Thread john R. Vaughn
List, I am looking at sony laptops. In recent years, I have not opted for
dedicated video cards, faster processors or hard drives. Just purchased
units at local best buy etc that seemed to offer good value .
This time I am considering buying direct and selecting components.
I use jaws V12, and do not store video or pictures but do a lot with the
internet, documents, spread sheets and outlook for E-mail.
1. Does jaws work better with a dedicated video card as it did years ago
when that was the option of choice.
2. Do the intel processors with turbo boost improve the performance of jaws
3. Does moving to a faster hard drive improve the performance of jaws.
4. With windows 7 home premium, does paying up for 8 megs of ram warrant the
additional cost of $$160 to go from 4 megs to 8 megs. Can purchase 2 megs
of additional for $80?
thank you for any input.

immediately but at the top I see unread feeds, unread watched and then all
unread email and then all inboxes and all drafts etc.
I think somewhere I have hide read messages but if I space on this it just
takes me back to the emails.

Re: [JAWS-Users] select and copy internet option

2011-08-30 Thread Annette Carr
My initial guess is that all of your text is there. The only way to be 100%
sure about this is to compare the 2 documents. Since you said that the
shorter document does not include formatting, I think this is the reason for
it being less than the 88 page document. Formatting controls all types of
things about a document. If the original document used a larger font such
as 14 point or 24 point for all or some of the text, the unformatted text
could be all in a 10 point font. Over 88 pages of text, this smaller font
would take up significantly less space. If the original formatting included
blank pages or other formatting that gave the original document a lot of
white space, this would be omitted from the unformatted document, again
shortening the overall length of the document. If there are any pages in
the original document that contain only a few lines of text followed by a
formatting instruction to force the next piece of information to the next
page, this would be removed from the short document and the text from the
next page would be pulled on to the page with the few lines of text. There
are many other formatting aspects that can effect the final length of a
document.

hTH,
Annette

Subject: [JAWS-Users] select and copy internet option

Hi all, I have an online document I wish to copy to Microsoft word
to have so I've got it even when my internet temporarily stops working. I
firstly copied it into a blank document using the jaws option copy full text
from virtual cursor. The document turned out to be 88 pages. I then decided
to try copying it using on screen highlight, and the document turned out to
be 34 pages, although formatting wasn't there. Just wondering if anyone can
please tell me why the document was shorter when the text is copied using on
screen highlight? Is all the info still there?
Kind regards,
>From Andrew

although it may sound I am trying to under-estimate you but trust me, that's
not the case at all. when you extracted the scripts, did you copy the
scripts themselves or the extracted folder? because, they did work for me
for sometime till I upgraded to the latest builds of jaws 12. now the
scripts no more work with jaws in the chat window at all, while they still
work in the messenger window, telling you who all are online & what are
their status messages.
I was hoping I would be able to find some way to recreate the jss file
for the scripts, so as to be able to modify & add the necessary things in
them but unfortunately, jaws has no documentation around retrieving the lost
jss files. writing across to some honchos for the same at fs also yielded no
positive results for the same.
I am sorry, I have no experience with using AIM. have never used it.
