Re: [JAWS-Users] Will these Ivona voices work with JAWS?
They do! but, in all honesty: I can't say that I was overly impressed. To date, I haven't found anything that matches the purity of Eloquence. Certainly, it does make errors in pronunciation occasionally, but such occasions are, surprisingly, rare, and can usually be fixed by a bit of imaginative fonetic tinkering in the Jaws dictionary. Re: [JAWS-Users] Suggestions or Cautions Please?
Thank you for your thoughts on my TV tuner problem! The problem I have, is that my duel tuner only now works on one source. I have not been successful in finding a replacement duel tuner. What I did, was to buy a Win Hauppauge single tuner card and also install it. Perhaps my problems stem from the two cards not wanting to play nice with each other. My computer is a laptop and is probably about 6 years old. Thanks much for any help! Re: [JAWS-Users] Purchasing Voices for JAWS
Also with the Acapela voices u must be very careful as many of their voices only work with Textallowed and wont with JAWs. they have a smaller list of English voices in American or Aussie or Brit accents that will work with 3rd party screen readers like JAWS but for those to be used on your computer you will have to download the 'infovox' software from the nextup site and pay like a few hundred dollars to download their voices which again are limited to a set of 3 or 4 voices only. they only sell voices in sets and each set has 3-4 voices and each set costs a few hundred dolars. I love Heather US English and can afford it so I have it on both my laptops. Re: [JAWS-Users] Purchasing Voices for JAWS
Hi Lisa, I don't know about that site but I wanted to let you know that there might be additional Real Speak voices for you to try at Freedomscientific.com I don't know how many voices came on your original CD and they may have added others. Also, I do use some of the occapella voices on my Mac and I do like them. If you do try Tracy let us know how it goes. I'm certainly interested. I have just started having a focus issue with Jaws 12 and google using IE 8. For example. I have google as my home page when I launch IE 8. However, I am finding that I am not able to enter any text in the search edit field of google. I am not sure. If forms mode is not coming on properly? As even if I press enter to manually go into forms mode? I do not always hear Jaws report that it has come on. And yet other times it does. But I am still not able to enter text. I have tried refreshing the page with Jaws key and escape. I have unloaded and restarted Jaws. Still with no luck. I don't seem to have any problem using google with Firefox. But like I said. Today the google search box using IE8 isn't working. A family member, said that the search box does seem to be smaller than usual. I don't know if that is relevant or not? I tried doing a repair on Jaws 12. But I couldn't find a repair option like in earlier versions of Jaws. I tried running the Jaws 12 installation file again. To see if that would give me a repair option? But it reported that this version was already found, and that the installation couldn't proceed. Is there still a repair option in Jaws 12? Re: [JAWS-Users] Email with windows 7
here's my list of clients that we know are useable: * MS outlook: it's a good mail client (among other things), has a lot in it, and any version from 2003 and up will work fine in win 7. you can also buy just the outlook application for between 50 to 90 dollars average on the web. * thunderbird: this is a free independent mail client that will work, is well thought of by many, and a quick google will find it for you. I have the URL for some jaws scripts that make it work a little better if you want to try them. * Eudora: another independent mail client, this one has been around for a long time, it seems that it's no longer being supported, but the last made version works in win 7. * windows live mail: the newest and most recommended (by MS and some sighted folk) mail client. this one still has interaction troubles with jaws, and opinions run about 50/50 either they love it, or they hate it. I have some light scripts that can help with this one a little bit as well. * and a final one; , windows mail, the client that was with vista is on your computer, but was disabled and hidden away. I have a pack of information and registry fix files that can enable it for you if you feel competent with registry fixes and wish to use it.but... it has been said that it can mess up one's ability to download service packs to windows 7 so is not a "recommended client" by many! Re: [JAWS-Users] how do you do a video card and processor for new laptop
List, I am looking at sony laptops. In recent years, I have not opted for dedicated video cards, faster processors or hard drives. Just purchased units at local best buy etc that seemed to offer good value . This time I am considering buying direct and selecting components. I use jaws V12, and do not store video or pictures but do a lot with the internet, documents, spread sheets and outlook for E-mail. 1. Does jaws work better with a dedicated video card as it did years ago when that was the option of choice. 2. Do the intel processors with turbo boost improve the performance of jaws 3. Does moving to a faster hard drive improve the performance of jaws. 4. With windows 7 home premium, does paying up for 8 megs of ram warrant the additional cost of $$160 to go from 4 megs to 8 megs. Can purchase 2 megs of additional for $80? thank you for any input. John For answers to frequently asked questions about this list visit: http://www.jaws-users.com/help/

Re: [JAWS-Users] select and copy internet option
My initial guess is that all of your text is there. The only way to be 100% sure about this is to compare the 2 documents. Since you said that the shorter document does not include formatting, I think this is the reason for it being less than the 88 page document. Formatting controls all types of things about a document. If the original document used a larger font such as 14 point or 24 point for all or some of the text, the unformatted text could be all in a 10 point font. Over 88 pages of text, this smaller font would take up significantly less space. If the original formatting included blank pages or other formatting that gave the original document a lot of white space, this would be omitted from the unformatted document, again shortening the overall length of the document. If there are any pages in the original document that contain only a few lines of text followed by a formatting instruction to force the next piece of information to the next page, this would be removed from the short document and the text from the next page would be pulled on to the page with the few lines of text. There are many other formatting aspects that can effect the final length of a document. hTH, Annette -Original Message- From: jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Andrew Head Sent: Monday, August 29, 2011 3:36 AM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: [JAWS-Users] select and copy internet option Hi all, I have an online document I wish to copy to Microsoft word to have so I've got it even when my internet temporarily stops working.
