Hi folks, Yeah, I know, long time no post. Well, for me, JAWS typically does what it is supposed to do. Anyway, I recently upgraded to JFW 12, and MS Office 2010 on a Windows XP box. Since then, I am having issues working with Office documents that I had created with MS Office 2003. Using the PC cursor doesn't do anything from my perspective. I had a sightling take a look at the screen, and with the PC cursor active, and using the arrow keys, they say they can see the system cursor moving but JAWS will only speak the top line of the Word document. It repeats it with each cursor movement, but refuses to read the actual new line that the system cursor is moving over. Using JAWS-key plus up arrow always reads the top line of the document. Using the JAWS cursor, I can read the other lines on the screen, but that is relatively useless. I had the same issue in Excel where it appeared to me to never leave a certain cell, but the system cursor was actually moving from cell to cell, but JAWS-key plus c always reported the same cell coordinates. Somehow, and I have no idea how, I got it to stop doing that in Excel, but I haven't been able to bludgeon Word into behaving properly yet. I've tried routing PC to JAWS and no luck. I tried maximizing and zooming but no luck. Any ideas? -- Blue skies. Dan Rossi Carnegie Mellon University. It is not clear yet what the effort will be to get this into a JAWS 12 hotfix after 13 is released. We will have to determine the effort and risk in porting this new solution back to 12. Re: [JAWS-Users] MS Outlook.
Dan, Just beginning to use it. Once you learn the basic functions you need to do it is not too bad. There is that learning curve with the ribbons. I find the FS Virtual ribbons feature with JAWS very helpful. Only issue I'm having is getting to my contacts. They are there they just wont come up when composing an email. Also when I installed it I uninstalled Office 2000 but left my Outlook.pst file so Outlook 2010 could automatically bring stuff over. When I launched 2010 for the first time I had to setup my two email accounts again (arobbin1 and arobbin2). Now, when 2010 opens, I have my original tree of folders carried over from 2000 plus a tree of folders for each of my two email accounts. All arobbin1 stuff goes into that set of folders and the arobbin2 goes into folders in that tree. So, in essence I now have 3 inboxes. The original one from 2000 does not appear to be used, just has all my old stuff in it. The new ones each get used according to which account the mail comes in. I was toying with the idea of renaming my current outlook.pst folder and then relaunch Outlook 2010 and have it create a new one. At that point I would go to my old backup of Outlook.pst from 2000 and import old messages and contacts. Anyway, good luck . There is a new email list a gentleman named David started on here. Seems pretty helpful, are you a member? Re: [JAWS-Users] Accomplish Cash Manager
Yes, we did use Excel for a time, but when it comes to tracking sales and inventory, everything had to be input manually as we purchased or sold, but it looks like this software will keep track for us once we do the initial inventory entry. With the spreadsheets, each time I purchased from a distributor or sold a part from inventory, I had to remember to enter that data into my spreadsheet or my figures and inventory weren't accurate. At times it gets far too busy at the shop to keep notes and remember to update my spreadsheets. If this will help us, that will be most excellent! [JAWS-Users] MS Office issue resolved.
OK, very strange with my MS Office issue. As you remember, driving the pc cursor around did not appear to do anything from my perspective. JAWS would always read the same line, even though the system cursor was actually moving around. After talking with FS tech support, they had me do a couple of things that I should have done on my own. I unloaded JAWS and reloaded it and suddenly the pc cursor started acting properly. They said that it might be some kind of load issue where some JAWS settings are not properly loading on start as a service, but do load if I start JAWS by hand after a machine boot. I'll have to experiment more, but after a machine restart, JAWS seems to be behaving properly in an Office document. I will try a full shut down and restart as well. But it seems to be working now. Re: [JAWS-Users] Here is the simple Day by Day calendar
I've just answered my own question. The version DBD 1.0 is not the same as the planner which I wrote about. Also, you can not set reminders or write notes for any given date. With the planner you can do many, but not all things available in the DBD Pro version. Re: [JAWS-Users] A simple Day by Day calendar
Thanks Jerry, In light of your pointing out a link to a free version, I went to the page and located it. After looking at the program I now see that there is a version which is free if you choose to subscribe to the Blind Software newsletter. I somehow missed that link before, so thank you for pointing me to it. I should say here that while people are sending copies around to each other and offering it on the list, remember that there is a condition which Justin would apparently like to have met before folks receive a copy which is e-mailed directly to anyone who meets that condition. So, while it is free, people should remember this before simply passing the program around as it doesn't seem right to ignore Justin's wishes when it comes to a program that he himself distributes. Another thing to point out is that the free planner is much smaller and has less features than the Day-by-Day Pro which is $29.00. I had the same problem with JAWS 11 and MS Office 7 at work. I was told it was some kind of video issue. The only fix I found was the installation of JAWS 12 or going back to JAWS 9. [JAWS-Users] Issue with MS Office.
In Windows 7, the, "Send To", appears to work as it does in Windows XP, whereas you can send a file to an e-mail recipient, from within a folder. Windows 7 does not use the familiar Windows AddressBook found in Windows XP, instead it uses a Contacts list, and if you access the list from within the Windows Mail program, you can go to the file menu, and then the actions sub-menu, and send mail. If one is using the window's 7 address book for their contacts instead of the one within their email client, can these steps be applied so that the "send to" appears to be used to send an email through the window's 7 address book? I know it's how it works on my xp computer, but this is for window's 7 and I'm trying to figure out how to send an email from within the address book, and was hoping this would apply for that?
