Re: [JAWS-Users] JAWS and ZoomText?

2012-04-19 Thread Scorpio Forever
ZoomText must start before Jaws, so enable ZoomText to start automatically,
and Jaws to not to start automatically at boot up.

Unfortunately, Jaws' video intercept interferes when ZoomText tries to read
something, so having it start after ZoomText allows ZoomText to use the MSAA
function built into Windows, and Jaws to load it's video intercept on top of
what ever ZoomText places in place to be able to magnify the screen.

You should also disable any speech component of ZoomText so you don't get
double talk without actually wanting it. LOL.

2012-04-19 Thread Steve Crews
Hello, I use Zoomtext for color enhancement and magnification and JAWS for
speech. It works great for me.
If you have Windows 7, Zoomtext has to start before JAWS. So, I have
Zoomtext come on at start up and then I have JAWS in the start menu.
So, after Zoomtext is loaded, I press the windows key plus the letter J and
Jaws starts up.
I hope this helps.

Hi Jason,
Give Classic Shell a look,
I use it on one of my Windows 7 systems, and also on Windows 8 Consumer Preview.
Once installed, if you disable it at startup, then the computer will boot into
the default Windows 7 interface, but you can load the Classic Shell afterwards.
Or, you can have it load at startup and enjoy the similar Windows Classic Start
menu.
Note: this will hide the Windows 7 search box.
The shell can be found at:

This makes perfect sense since even Microsoft will not support Office 2003
anymore. At some point, we have to move forward and keep up with our sighted
peers. If all a person wants to do is be able to view an Office file, get a
free viewer. If you must create Office documents, then buy the smallest
package that supports your needs and watch for it on sale. Office Home and
Student is not to bad for the cost and I bought mine on sale on one of those
back to school almost give aways to get you in the store.

Actually, since the scripts were written for jaws 4.5.1 originally, this is
the location that jaws will look in by default. You need to manually give
the path to your script directory. since jaws 4.5.1 did not differentiate
between "personal" and "all user" settings at the time, I personally put my
"personal alarm" scripts in my "all user settings" directory and this has
worked well for me for several years and several versions.

2012-04-19 Thread Doris and Chris
I am mainly concerned with winword. the later versions of jaws work
wiht MS Word by directly accessing the Winword api. This does not
work correctly anymore for readingin Winword 2k3.

If I were to go back to a version of jaws that just used scripts with
no api access to read Word, would this overwrite jaws's accessing the
api or do later versions of jaws always access the api regardless of
what scripts they come with?

thanks much.

Re: [JAWS-Users] regarding the jaws scripts for personal alarm plug in

2012-04-19 Thread Doris and Chris
Actually, since the scripts were written for jaws 4.5.1 originally,
this is the location that jaws will look in by default. You need to
manually give the path to your script directory. since jaws 4.5.1 did
not differentiate between "personal" and "all user" settings at the
time, I personally put my "personal alarm" scripts in my "all user
settings" directory and this has worked well for me for several years
and several versions.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] regarding the jaws scripts for personal alarm plug in

Hello,
Did someone on the list used PersonalAlarm plug in for jaws? If so I would
like to know about the steps followed by me to add the scripts for jaws.

Since I have running multiple versions of Jaws 12 and 13 on the same
computer, pressed Insert+0, then closed the script manager before
continuing to the steps below.
After using the installer, there was a subfolder in my start menu labeled
Gutterstar. It contained another subfolder labeled PersonalAlarm. In the
PersonalAlarm folder, I have notice a shortcut labeled "1 PersonalAlarm.jss"
Clicked on the shortcut labeled "1 PersonalAlarm.jss"
The file got opened in the Jaws script manager. Once opened, pressed
Control+S.
To complete compile scripts and here I should get the message that scripts
are compiled and complete. But here I ggot the following
error:

Script Load Error
The file C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Freedom
Scientific\JAWS\12.0\Settings\enu\PersonalAlarm.JSB could not be opened OK

Then I pressed Control+Shift+D. doing this, opened "Default.jss"
Pressed Control+End, then pressed enter key couple of times. At the bottom
of the file, typed the following line, Use "PersonalAlarm.jsb"
then press enter.
Pressed Control+S once again, then close the file.

After doing these steps, I should have got the confirmation of successfully
adding the scripts for personal alarm plugin but again I got the same error.

so please tell me where i have made the mistake? how to rectify the same?
requesting your kind cooperation.
thanks,
mukesh.

FYI, about xp and office2003 users off another list.
Hi,

I got a response from FS and, as I expected, the official word is
they no longer support Office XP or 2003. They know the supplied
scripts don't work properly any more, but they are supplied for those
people who "want" to use them.

So I'm afraid anyone else out there having to use older versions of
Office is out of luck with the later versions of JAWS.

Perhaps FS could be persuaded to release the source code of the
unsupported scripts to the user community, so that those who "want"
to could fix them.
