[JAWS-Users] Is there something where I can set for windos and jaws to start after 1 minute?

2012-09-10 Thread Maheen
Speaking about jaws and windows starting, after my cousin's friend did a disc
cleanup, somehow windows takes almost 5 minutes to start now and I wonder, is
there something he set for windows to take forever to start when I on my
laptop? I am using vista 64 bit. I think if I remember correctly, there's
something on laptops that you can set for windows to start after 2 minutes.

 Hi Jerry,

 Here you go.

Here is the correct procedure for repairing Jaws. Two methods, I
 got from another lister.
 Blank
Here is the info. Just change the version or highlight your current
 version
 using browse.
 Follow the steps below;
The steps below are the best, most in depth, and most thorough way of
repairing Jaws according to Freedom Scientific Tech Support.
 1. Place a copy of the Jaws executible version that you want to
 repair
 into
the main root of the C drive. For example; If you are running
 Jaws11
most recent you would paste a copy of J11.0.1430-32bit.exe into
 the
 main
root of the C drive. To open the main root of the C drive, go
 to
the desktop, press enter on My Computer, press enter on Local disk C,
 and
now you have the main root of the C drive open.
 2. With the Jaws .exe pasted into the C drive, highlight the
 .exe
, and press F2 as if you were going to edit this line of text. now
 press
control + C to copy this Jaws executible, press escape to close the
 edit
field, and press Alt + F4 to close the C drive.
What you want to do is place just the title of the Jaws version into
 the
Windows Run Dialogue box and not the file. If you were to place the
 Jaws
executible into the Run box without copying as you did as per the
instructions above you would have pasted the whole file into the Run
 Box
 instead of just the title.
 3. Now that you have just the title copied to the clipboard, press
 Windows
key + R to open the Run Dialogue Box. Type, remember to type a
 capitalC ,
 C:\ without the quotes or
spaces and press control + V to paste the Jaws title, press your end
 key
 to
take the cursor to the end of the title and type in the following
 /type
repair without the quotes but, with the spaces . Below is what your
 line
of text should look / read like.
 C:\J11.0.1447-64bit.exe /type repair
Read character by character to make sure you have put in the proper
 spaces,
Forward back slashes and text. press the home key to go to the
 front of
the title and press enter to start the repair.
A 2nd way to do the same thing.
 1. Use Windows key with R to bring up the run dialog box.
 2. Use tab key to the browse button and press spacebar.
 3. Browse to the downloaded JAWS setup file and press enter key.
 4. Use tab key to move to where JAWS says open colon edit combo,
 press
the end key and then press spacebar.
 5. Type in /Type repair, (that is first type a slash followed
 immediately
by the word type then a space and then the word repair.
 6. Use tab key to the OK button and press enter key.
 7. Follow the prompts.
 At
  11:42 AM 9/3/2012, you wrote:

the easiest way go to the message but don't enter
tap the application key and up arrow to add sender to contacts and enter
This will put him/her in the contact list
Remember that control 1 brings you back to your inbox and tab will get you

control 3 will bring you to your contact list
If you do not have a message from the person to add you can still add them

[JAWS-Users] how to cleen start up

2012-09-10 Thread Mich

Hi hear's instructions on how to cleen your pc including start up.
From time to time I post information that will assist you in working with

your PC. Just like servicing your car, your PC needs attention also.

Here are some recommendations everyone should do on a regular basis.

There are several things you can do to maintain your PC's performance.
These procedures should be done at least once a month or even more often
depending

on your usage.

I recommend doing them in this order.

1. Prefetch

When you launch an application, Windows XP stores that information in a file
called, prefetch. These files can accumulate over a period of time and will

have some affect on the loading of Windows. It doesn't hurt to clean out
this file from time to time and will not affect the operation of your PC to
delete

them.

Go to the start menu and either arrow down to run or just type the letter R.

When the edit box appears, type in: prefetch and press enter.

You will have a list of applications that you have used since you have been
using Windows XP.

Simply do a control a to select all and then press your shift delete. If
you just press delete, those files will go into the recycle bin, but adding
the

shift key will bypass it.

Now say yes to, are you sure you want to delete these files.

Finally press alt f4 to exit.

2. Disc Clean-up

Whenever you surf the internet or download files, your PC stores information
on the hard drive in a temp folder. There are other files included in the

Disc Clean-Up which you probably would want to get rid of.

Go to your start menu, then to All Programs, then Accessories,
next to System Tools and finally to Disc Clean-Up and press enter.

It might take a few minutes for it to open, depending on if it
will compress old files. But once it does, you will probably be asked which

Drive your want to clean. Select the C drive.

Once this is selected, you will have a list of items that the
disc clean-up will clean. These may include:

Downloaded Internet Files

Temp Internet Internet Files

Off Line Web Pages

Office Set-Up Files

Recycle Bin

Temporary Files

Web Publisher Files

Compress Old Files

Catalogue Files

As you down arrow through the list, you will notice that they may be
checked or unchecked. If they are checked, this will clean that option when
the next

Button is pressed. I recommend checking everything with the exception of,
compress old files. You only need to check this if your hard drive is
getting

Low on free drive space.

After you have checked the files you want to clean, tab to next
and press enter. You will be asked if you are sure you want to do this,
just

Press enter on, yes. It will take a few minutes, but when it is finished,
you will be taken out of the Disc Clean-Up.

3. Check Disc

The check disc should be performed before a scan disc is
performed. To do this, go to the start menu and then to, run.

When the edit box appears, type in: chkdsk /f and press enter. You will be
presented with a dialogue that says, the check disc cannot be performed
because

the volume is in use. Would you like to perform this the next time your
system starts? Just type the letter Y and press enter.

Now you will need to shut down any open applications and
restart your PC. When it begins to boot up and before Windows starts, your
PC will

perform a check disc. It will take a few minutes to perform, but when it is
finished, Windows will start up normally.

4. Start Up

One of the main reasons for your PC to be slow in starting is
what is included in your start up. The more applications you have in the
start

up the longer it takes for your PC to load windows and be ready for use.

Go to the start menu and then to run. When the edit box comes
up, type in: msconfig and press enter.

You will be presented with several tabs and will be in the
general tab to start with. Press your control tab key until you hear, Start
Up.

You will now have a list of applications that start when you
turn on your PC.

I personally don't' keep anything in my start up, but this is
completely up to you as to what you want starting up. If you are using
certain

anti-virus programs, you certainly want to make sure those are kept in your
start up.

As you arrow down through your list, you will see that each
item will be either checked or unchecked. If it is checked, this means it
will

start with your PC. Arrow down through your list and uncheck each item you
don't want to start. After you make your selection, tab to OK and press
enter.

You will be given a dialogue telling you will need to restart your computer
in order for this process to take affect. You will have two choices,

Re: [JAWS-Users] how to cleen start up

2012-09-10 Thread TJ McElroy gMail

Hello,

Please review the following list of Windows xp myths.
While this is not the only page that describes some common myths and
incorrect settings, it is the first one that I came across to debunk this
specific myth.

XP Myths
http://home.comcast.net/~SupportCD/XPMyths.html

Prefetch - Folder Cleaning
Negative

Myth - Deleting the contents of the Prefetch folder improves performance.

Reality - Deleting the contents of the Prefetch folder will reduce
application launch and windows boot time performance. Every time you delete
an application's
Prefetch (.PF) file you will cripple that application's load time the next
time you go to launch it. Even though Windows XP will simply re-create that
application's Prefetch (.PF) trace file, that application's optimal load
time will not be restored until after the second time you launch that
application
and the system has been able to go idle and fully run the prefetch
optimization. Windows XP automatically cleans the Prefetch folder down to
the 32 most
used Prefetch (.PF) trace files when the folder reaches 128 files so they do
not needlessly consume space. This cleaning is only done when the system has
gone idle. Prefetch (.PF) trace files are not a cache and are not preloaded
into memory upon windows startup. They are never even accessed until you
launch
an application. Only one Prefetch (.PF) trace file per application is
created. There is never ANY reason to delete these files.

Open up Windows Explorer.

Go to the tools menu and select options.

Control tab once.

Tab once.

Go down that list until you find use check boxes to select items and hit the

It sounds like yours is checked so space bar will un-check it.

Then tab to apply to hit enter or just alt + A. Then hit enter again.

Hi Jerry,

Here you go.

Here is the correct procedure for repairing Jaws. Two methods, I
got from another lister.
Blank
Here is the info. Just change the version or highlight your current
version
using browse.
Follow the steps below;
The steps below are the best, most in depth, and most thorough way
of

repairing Jaws according to Freedom Scientific Tech Support.
1. Place a copy of the Jaws executible version that you want to
repair
into
the main root of the C drive. For example; If you are running
Jaws11
most recent you would paste a copy of J11.0.1430-32bit.exe into
the
main
root of the C drive. To open the main root of the C drive,
go

to
the desktop, press enter on My Computer, press enter on Local disk
C,

and
now you have the main root of the C drive open.

I have a USB foot peddle, the type that is usually used to control audio
playback for transcription. It has 3 peddles on it, a small left and right
and a large center peddle. I would like to assign keyboard keystrokes to
the peddles so that I can use it to control the reading of a document with
JAWS. I would like to assign the left and right peddles to perform the
function of up and down arrows and I would like to make the center peddle
perform a insert down arrow (JAWS say all). Is this possible? I would
think that it is possible but I have looked in the control panel and don't
see where I would set this up. I am using Win 7 64 bit with JAWS 13. Any
help would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

Scott Duck

Re: [JAWS-Users] Problem with jaws not starting immediately when Iboot my PC - Start Up

2012-09-10 Thread inthaneelf
you folks have a few things confused, and probly messed up, , if your
computer is properly tuned and cleaned it will boot with speach generally
within about 45 seconds to 1 minute max. my three win 7 machines all fit
this cryteria, and a few folks with good clean machines boot in 15 seconds
with win 7.

get CCleaner, Get Recuva, Get win patrol (also useful in controling startup
and start sequencing startup items) and get Auslogics regestry cleaner and
defrag applications and start using them on a regular bases .

you won't be able to smooth everything out again, but i bet you can greatly
improve it, oh and don't forget Revo Uninstaller to remove unnessacery
programs and use it for all, utilizing the moderate or intense removal
scanning settings to make sure you get everything you can of the scraps that
most programs leave behind which cause this slowing of the computer.

hopefully this will assist you with these troubles,

How can I eliminate items in this list permanently in start up because there
are way too many there?
Where must I go to do this and how can I do this deleting successfully?
Thank you very much.

it feels like it.

Mine will boot in about 20 -25 seconds but I also have a SSD which
would preclude some of the maintenance suggested, especially defrag,
correct?
