Hello Susan, the major advantage of IE 9 and Google chrome is they have HTML 5 support, if you require that support on IE 8 you can install chrome framework over IE 8, this is a subset of Google chrome, this does work well with JFW. cheers IC - Original Message - From: "Susan" To: Sent: Tuesday, February 05, 2013 8:34 AM Subject: [JAWS-Users] Google Chrome or IE 9, which is better Hi Everyone, I’m using JAWS12 on a Windows 7 system and have finally decided to upgrade my browser for various reasons. Re: [JAWS-Users] Google Chrome or IE 9, which is better
No decision at all, I doubt chrome would even work with jaws 12, and it doesn't work all that well with 14. The latest version of ie that your o/s and screen reader will support is what you should be using, unless you'd like to try firefox. Firefox works okay with Jaws, but I suspect ie is still better supported. It looks like they fixed the issue I reported with Jaws landing on the garbled link text when jumping from Google Reader search results or when browsing the feed updates from a particular feed while in Firefox. Greetings List, Just wanted to make you aware that an update will be posted shortly. We have been busy with adjustments to JAWS 14 since the December posting and I've included the list of changes below. This will be an auto update which you will be prompted to get when you restart JAWS, as soon as the release is live today. Regards, Eric Enhancements in JAWS 14.0.1534 (February 2013) The following is a list of items addressed or added between the final JAWS 14.0.1037 release and the JAWS 14.0.1534 posting. JAWS * Several issues with selecting text using JAWS have been addressed. * Addressed an issue where JAWS was not reading the correct information when selecting various buttons that open drop down menus on the Facebook Web site. For example, the edit or remove buttons. * Resolved an issue with the Braille Study Mode on-the-fly command WHIZWHEEL+NAVROW BUTTON not announcing and spelling the word as expected. This only occured with Focus braille displays that contain WHIZWHEELS. * Removed an unnecessary entry regarding braille panning from the list of controls in the Define Structured Mode dialog box in Settings Center. * Resolved a customer reported issue with JAWS not properly getting focus in WPF applications when exiting a JAWS dialog box such as the Links List. * Resolved a customer reported issue using the SecureCRT application in Windows 8 where pressing INSERT+ALT+W to virtualize the window was not opening the virtual viewer as expected. * The default dot firmness for Freedom Scientific braille displays has been changed to 100 percent, which is the highest setting. * Resolved an issue where pressing WINDOWS Key+PAUSE to open the System Properties dialog box was not working over a JAWS Tandem connection. * When running JAWS and MAGic together, resolved an issue where using Navigation Quick Key P to move by paragraph was moving by two paragraphs instead of one. * Addressed a customer reported issue where JAWS would unexpectedly close when pressing ALT+TAB to move between Windows Explorer and a Command Prompt window. * When using JAWS over a Remote Desktop connection, resolved a reported issue where the ALT key would sometimes become stuck under certain circumstances. * Addressed a reported issue with JAWS not reading tree views correctly in Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio. * When using a Focus braille display with JAWS over a remote Terminal Services connection, addressed issues with entering text in computer braille or contracted braille from the Perkins-style keyboard on the Focus display. Re: [JAWS-Users] Sound Card issue with Jaws 9 & XP machine
It was JAWS 9, there is not a setting to switch sound cards in 9, that started in 10. I've got it worked out now, I had the wrong thing in the line, needed to have Realtek HD Audio Output in that line, not whatever I had there. Thanks for all the help. - Original Message - From: "Flor Lynch" To: Sent: Monday, February 04, 2013 06:02 Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] Sound Card issue with Jaws 9 & XP machine The original question is concerned with JAWS9. - Original Message - From: "inthaneelf" To: Sent: Monday, February 04, 2013 7:58 AM Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] Sound Card issue with Jaws 9 & XP machine I do believe it was jaws 10, at least that's the first version I have this ability listed in. inthane -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of David Ferrin Sent: Sunday, February 03, 2013 4:52 AM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] Sound Card issue with Jaws 9 & XP machine You are going about it the hard way. Correct that was the method in the past but for several versions already and I'm not sure when it began but follow these steps. Go to your JAWS window. Go to the utilities menu, and arrow down to the sound card sub menu. In there you simply arrow to your desired card and hit enter. I'm having a real issue this evening & I've hunted & tried most every thing. I purchased & installed an Audio Technica ATR 2100 Mic wich is both a USB & XLR Mic, that also has a headphone jack on the back of it for monitoring your output audio from the mic. The issue came in when I installed the mic. The mic changed my output device to that particular device. I was able to change everything back to my Real Teck HD output device through control panel. However, JAWS remains coming out the headphone jack of the mic. I've tried the steps outlined here. Editing the jfw.ini file: 1.. Using My Computer or Windows Explorer, browse your hard drive to the currently running version of JAWS and find the jfw.ini file in that folder. 2.. Press ENTER to open. 3.. You should find some lines that read: a.. Synth1Name=eloq b.. Synth1LongName=Eloquence for JAWS c.. Synth1Driver=eloq The number doesn't matter, it may be 1, 2, or 3, but it must be the same for all entries for Eloquence. 4.. Add the following line after the driver line: Synth1Port=SB Live! Wave Device. Of course, you need to make sure that the synth number matches the other lines, so that if the Driver line read "Synth3Driver=eloq" then the port line would read "Synth3Port=SB Live! Wave Device" The text after the = sign in the Port line comes from Control Panel/Sound & Multimedia/Audio tab. It must be one of the entries that can be chosen for Preferred Playback device. 5.. Save your changes and exit Notepad. So, mine now looks like this. 6.. [Synthesizers] Synth1Name=eloq Synth1LongName=Eloquence Software Synth1Driver=eloq Synth1Port=SB Live! Wave Device 7.. Again, still no JAWS from my speakers, any help would be greatly appreciated. Also when I take the device out & reconnect it, I once again have to change my sounds back in control panel. Look forward to hearing from someone soon. I'm as stated in the subject line running Windows XP SP3 & JAWS 9. Re: [JAWS-Users] JAWS Volume
In previous versions of windows, JAWS' Eloquence used the system volume. In windows7, each application has a separate volume slider. Press windows+r [for run], and then type sndvol to see the volume controls as they apply to your running applications (in windows7). - Original Message - From: "rami" To: Sent: Monday, February 04, 2013 9:50 AM Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] JAWS Volume i tried it but it doesn't work with win7. i wander how could it be that such screen reader doesn't have this feature emplemented. - Original Message - From: "Dang Manh Cuong" To: Sent: Saturday, February 02, 2013 6:01 PM Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] JAWS Volume Hi If you often do it, you could use quick mix in from jaws-users site.
