[JAWS-Users] Jaws not reading within combo box
Hello Everyone, I'm running Win 7 and Jaws 12. Recently when filling out forms with my information I've had trouble with picking out my sate and country, opening and using combo boxes. I open box but there is nothing listed, or at least Jaws cannot read what is listed, and therefore I cannot pick out my state, NY, or country, US. Seems in the past I've had no trouble. Am I doing something wrong? Don't think so. Has anyone had this same problem? Any suggestions? Thanks, Bill Sharp For answers to frequently asked questions about this list visit: http://www.jaws-users.com/help/

I’ve been sending recent questions on help with my new laptop, and other than finding out connecting to wireless, I’ve also noticed that the keyboard layout is different too, so I’m asking: is the shift key the insert key? is there an applications key? how do I open any of the f keys? are all laptop keyboards designed , layed out, the same For answers to frequently asked questions about this list visit: http://www.jaws-users.com/help/

Re: [JAWS-Users] Problem With Jaws After Removing Visual C++ 2005 and 2010
Hi Everyone, Yesterday, I posted about a problem that I was having with Jaws not running after I had removed Visual C++ Redistributable 2005 and 2010, as instructed by FS tech support, as part of an attempt to fix FS Reader. I decided that if removing those Visual C components caused the problem then reinstalling them should fix the problem and it did. Thanks, Scott Duck -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Scott Duck Sent: Tuesday, July 2, 2013 11:01 AM To: Jaws List Subject: [JAWS-Users] Problem With Jaws After Removing Visual C++ 2005 and 2010 Hi everyone, First of all, I have contacted FS tech support about this but, while I am waiting on them to get back to me, I am hoping that someone on the list will have some suggestions. I have never gotten FS Reader to run on this Windows 8 machine. I contacted FS about the problem. They told me that I needed to remove all versions of Visual C++ redistributable 2005 and 2010 and then do a repare of my JAWS installation and then, possiably, reinstall FS reader. I asked them if removing these Visual C components would potentially cause any problems and they assured me that it would not. I attempted to remove all versions of Visual C++ Redistributable 2005 and 2010, as instructed. There were two or three components of both the 2005 and 2010 versions of Visual C listed. I was able to remove all of them accept for the last component of the 2010 version. When I tried to remove that one, I got an error message from Windows Installer saying that the program could not run because MSVCR100.DLL is missing from my computer. I restarted the computer and, when it restarted, JAWS would not run. I thought that JAWS not running at this point might just be part of the whole process and so I started Narrator and proceeded with the JAWS repair, using my iPhone to read the instructions in the E-mail from FS tech support. However, the JAWS repair would not run. I got a error message saying something about it not being able to install components. I was not able to review the message to copy it down because I do not use Narrator very much and so I am not familior with it. I am typing this using NVDA and I would very much like to get back to JAWS. It appears to me that removing the Visual C++ Redistributable 2005 and 2010 components caused some problems. JAWS will not run and the JAWS repair will not run. Do any of you have any idea what has gone wrong and how to fix it? Do you suppose that doing a system roll back might help? Any thoughts are much appreciated. Re: [JAWS-Users] laptop keystrokes
To answer your last question first no, all manufactures have there own layout for keyboard. Some do have full size keyboards and are mostly 17 inch. The smaller sizes have compact keyboards and use a FN key as a modifier key for the f1 to f12 keys for different functions. Some of them will have a application key and some won't. You can set jaws to use the caps lock key for the insert key. On my Toshiba netbook has a insert key next to the delete key and the Toshiba 15 inch has none, and the dell aspire also has none. But all 3 do have the wireless quick shut off key controlled with the FN key with f2, f6 and f4. So it just depends on manufacture and model for keyboard layout. However I think a NK2 editor is necessary to delete individual entries. To stop autocomplete suggestions without deleting the file you can go to your advanced Email options and deselect the option for suggesting names. [JAWS-Users] Temporary Account in Windows 8
Hi Everyone, Occasionally, just every couple months, when I boot up my Windows 8 computer, it will say that I am logged into a temporary account. My personal settings are not there. For example, if I start Outlook, it will act as though I have started it for the first time and haven't set it up. I reboot the computer and everything is fine. Just curious, why does it do that? Re: [JAWS-Users] Temporary Account in Windows 8
Hi Scott. Does your system run on a ssd drive only, or is your operating system installed on a ssd drive and all other applications and data on a normal harddisk drive? It seems to be a conflict between something that cannot startup soon enough, to recognize tthe legal licence on your system. By performing a restart, you dosn't shut everything down, and your'e running afterward's. Probably there is a problem with loading the driver for your harddisk drive, so the automatic loaded task's for some startup program's, have failed. Only a suggestion. My personal settings are not there. For example, if I start Outlook, it will act as though I have started it for the first time and haven't set it up. I reboot the computer and everything is fine. Just curious, why does it do that? [JAWS-Users] putting jaws authorization number
i'm new to this list, but have heard of it's ability to help jaws users, so I need to know how to enter my jaws authorization number on a new computer? after installing jaws on my machine, and putting in the authorization disk, I found out it was damaged, and it wouldn't except it. I have the number in a file, and have it memorized, but when the page to put it in manually opens, it closes before I can put in my 20 digit number. can someone tell me the keystrokes to go directly to the authorization page on my own? Re: [JAWS-Users] Temporary Account in Windows 8
Hi Scott, a large number of Microsoft apps that run in the background, especially some of the charms app require that you have a Microsoft account and are signed in. This is not tied into your serial or installation key. It's similar to an Apple I.D., and so to access some of these services, you must be signed in. If you press Windows key+C to access the charms bar, arrow to settings, or PC Settings, I forget which term it is, and I think you can configure it there. I should also note that if you've got a MSN or Windows Messenger I.D., you can use that particular credential. Hope this helps.
