hello Mike; just a quick question? why would you need the Ubit program, for navigating ribbons, when you can use the jaws vertual ribbon feature. this also allows the easy menu navigation. -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Mike B. If I scroll across the upper ribbons with the right arrow key, the last tab I encounter is Search Commands. If I continue to right arrow, I land on the Microsoft Office Word Help button, then Office Button Submenu Grid and finally wrap around back to theHome tab. If I minimize the ribbons by pressingControl-F1, I get the same results, although, interestingly, the upper tabs seem to respond a little less sluggishly in this minimized mode than they do when the ribbons are maximized. Other than this subtle clue, I have no other way to know whether the ribbons are minimized or maximized, and I suspect that other blind users of Office 2007 may be unaware that their ribbon menus are not properly maximized, and hence become frustrated trying to navigate them. Perhaps JAWS should be enhanced so that it announces something like ribbons minimized and ribbons restored when Control-F1 is pressed repeatedly. Re: [JAWS-Users] silencing the talking heads
I think what Dave is describing is on certain web pages such as ESPN or CNN, there is an audio of a story they are featuring running when you enter the web page. The audio, often, is unrelated to a link that you may have followed to the page and the audio can make finding the print story difficult with a screen reader. What Dave is asking and I'd like to know also, is there some way to stop or silence the audio story that automatically starts when you bring up one of these web pages so that it's easier to use one's screen reader. -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Flor Lynch Sent: Wednesday, March 19, 2014 2:53 PM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] silencing the talking heads More questions to be asked than answers. Re: [JAWS-Users] silencing the talking heads
At the moment I have an advantage in that as i use an external speech synthesizer, in such situations I can turn down the speakers and listen to JAWS reading through the speech synth. Windows7 assigns volume to each different process: and therefore, before beginning to read, it might be possible to substantially reduce the volume of the streaming content while at the same time retaining or increasing the JAWS volume. you tab through the various applications running that are listed in the volume control, and adjust each according to your preference. - Original Message - From: Bissett, Tom tom.biss...@bmo.com To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Sent: Wednesday, March 19, 2014 8:20 PM Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] silencing the talking heads I think the question is how to stop the news from streaming when trying to read an article. [JAWS-Users] Platforms for Collaboration
Hi there, I'm a therapist involved in a joint research project. I am looking for a platform where I can collaborate with colleagues writing papers together and sharing research information including a database of articles relevant to our work. Does anyone have any information that can help us choose a platform that would work well with JAWS or ones that wouldn't work well at all? Thank you in advance. I have a nice Dell desktop running windows 7 and the incredible wonderful jaws 15.056, I am connected to the internet here, but on the laptop also running same stuff, no connection, how, just how, is it possible? The cable people are updating cables that this is affecting 556 people, imagine that, they got it down to the exact number. I called to see what was going on here, felt real dumb saying, well the internet is working on the desktop but not the laptop, he was surely shaking his head, and saying, oh me, not me today, not another one.. Now, here's another interesting tidbit I just know yall want to know.. While a reliable person who kindly setup this computer, also put window's mail on it, I did not set it up, but here we are folks..yes siree I am somehow able to send the email with the application that has not been setup, now put that in your pipes and smoke it. Well, that's an old saying, which don't prove nothing, but that my age is up there, haha. So, you are by now thinking..what is the purpose of this query, right? How am I able to have internet and use the WM if not been setup? /Have a good day! I just did reboot the modem and my net gear router, he said there is an outage in my area, but it's not affecting me for the moment. Whacha gonna do anyways, deal with it, like, do I have a choice, haha I didn't need to post all or any of this to the list today, I was just like flabbergasted that I was sending mail from one machine and not the other when one was not even configured - Original Message - From: Fidano fid...@comcast.net To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Sent: Wednesday, March 19, 2014 1:11 PM Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] Internet Connection You might find you will need to reboot your router, and could be your cable company will soon be updating routers.. and if it persists, you might ask the company. Ye, Namecheap wasn't really accessible, this one is. It helps that the site owner is blind. Thanks guys. On 3/19/14, Kimsan kimsans...@aol.com wrote: The charges are very reasonable there as well. Re: [JAWS-Users] Accessible Domain Registrars
I vote for Namecheap. Their site is quite accessible. The only issue I ever had with them, and it was probably an honest bug on their part is that at least with mine, they defaulted my domains to have their company info for all the contact fields, even though I explicitly unchecked who-is privacy. It was an easy enough fix, but with the new rules now requiring email confirmation now, this could be where to check if you don't receive the message you need to confirm. - Original Message - From: Alan Robbins arobb...@nycap.rr.com To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Sent: Wednesday, March 19, 2014 6:52 PM Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] Accessible Domain Registrars You could also try: www.ultrahost.us The gentleman that runs it is named David.
