Re: [JAWS-Users] Big problem with Face book

2014-04-06 Thread Michael Boyd

Hi Listers,

I have also had trouble with erroneous information being in my profile.
Another thing is, when I start to type a name, even my own, and I have a
friend with the same first name, Facebook wants to insert the friends name
in place of mine or the other person's. So, now it's better since I am using
the mobile Facebook site. By the way, the proper address for the mobile site
is http://www.m.facebook.com

the only way it can be deleted is help from a sighted person. I know
because this is what happened to me. I don't have a complete profile and
when facebook gives me suggestions as you said if I press enter on one of
them, it will be added.
there is no way the false info can be deleted from someone using a
screenreader. perhaps that’s why facebook is not fully assessible to

This email is quite old, but might I make a suggestion. In my case, my
Profile is not completely filled out, and occasionally Facebook will give
me

choices of where I work etc. These are from my friend's profiles. If I
were to accidently hit enter or spacebar, this information would be added
to

my profile. This is on the mobile site for sure. I don't know how one
would delete this information, but I could see how it could easily end up
on

one's profile.

Try www.facebook.com/mobile or get on the facebook.com page and press
the mobile link and bookmark the page. All of this said, there are
things the site won't do for me, such as confirm a reply or comment I
make when someone sends me a link, etc. I'm not even sure I was able
to post, as I get an error message when I leave the site asking me if
I want to finish my comment.

The mobile site is better with screen readers than the regular site,
though. Pity Zuckerberg and company can't make their site as
accessible as linkedin.

I don't think you can have two instances of Office on your computer at once.
I tried to install 2013 and keep 2010 at the same time, but after the

Hi Sugar,

To remove the protected view from a document, do this:

1. Highlight the document in question.
2. press the Applications key and click on Properties.
3. In the General Tab, tab down until you hear Unblock and click on this.

Now, open the document, and it will not be in protected view anymore.

Nope. Using the JAWS cursor to read the infornation on the NSE History
tab, there is a message at the top of the page that myPC status is
potentially unprotected, but no expanation as to why. As I mentioned
previously, I suspect that MS is deliberately flagging XP computers as
unprotected, when, in fact, this is not actually the case, to scare XP users
into upgrading to Windows 8 even though support for the XP version of MSE
will continue through July, 2015. MS has done a splendid job of convincing
the mainstream media that XP computers will all be rendered into useless
paperweights by the nasty boys of cyberspace after support for XP ends on
Tuesday. Remember all the doomsayers who predicted that the world as we
know it would end on January, 1,2000, thanks to the so-called Y2K problem?
How did that work out?

I'm confused, when you go to your system tray with the Jaws Key+F11, then

you should be able to use your Jaws cursor to see why your PC is

Re: [JAWS-Users] identifying i e version

2014-04-06 Thread Mike O'Brien
Hi

It looks like control+alt+v will give useful information for Internet
explorer. It tells me I'm running version 10.something. But for programs
that use something different to identify their version, the version number
may not help answer your question. For example, for any of the programs in
Microsoft Office 2010, control+alt+v will tell you that you're running
version 14.something.

I have your setup but I have JAWS Pro because I selected the Win7
Professional. I selected the box Start JAWS at the logon screen. A
second box that may be relevant to you - Start JAWS after logon for this
user. I selected never.

What else loads at start up for you. Maybe your start up is crowded.

Hi,
Open jaws up, and press the alt key.
Then, press O for option.
Select Basic and press enter.
Tab down through the menu and select what you want, especially jaws to start
at start up.

If, it continues, you have to many programs check to start up at start up on
your PC.

Using jaws 15, window seven home 64. My question is which setting in the
starting wizard is best for my PC regarding jaws. When my PC starts, takes
long time for jaws to start. I am not using any log in when my PC. Just
start without having to be prompted. So which setting I select when it ask
me about starting jaws?

You could start JAWS at startup to see if you get a different result
than by starting with Wizard selections. I'm at the end of my knowledge
on this matter.
