Re: [JAWS-Users] Changing Background Foreground colors

2014-07-07 Thread Rick Justice
Hi Mike,
From what I just found, it appears that you need to send your message in
rich text HTML format in order to change the background color.
While in an open message, choose the format menu, make sure that rich text
format is checked and then open the background sub-menu, and then choose
color from the 3 available options.
No first letter navigation in the list of colors, so you will just have
arrow to white, and then hit enter to check the box.
I believe that the text color is determined by the O/S, and cannot be
changed.
Unless I don't understand what foreground and background colors that Jaws is
reporting, I would say that it is reporting it incorrectly, which may be a
bug in Jaws or some type of setting.
It reports the same to me whether I am in a plain text or html message, and
my background color is set to white for rich text format.
I am running Jaws 15 latest build, Win 7.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Urgent help required for accessing suggestion made ina document

2014-07-07 Thread Brian Lee
Hello,

Here are a few suggestions. This applies to Word 2013 and 2010 but the Word
methods shown will vary somewhat with earlier versions of Word.

I switched to JAWS 14 and the same keystrokes seem to work. However, they
seemed to work intermittently in both JAWS 14 and 15. In Word 2013 you can
move forward through a document by revision by first turning on track
changes by using CTRL with shift and E, and then using Alt followed by R
followed by H. You can move backward through a document by revision by
using Alt followed by R followed by F. JAWS doesn't always announce that
the focus is on a revision but I have found that after moving to a revision
using Word 2013's method that if I use right arrow away from it and left
arrow back to it JAWS will announce that it is a revision. If this works
you can then use CTRL with JAWS key and R to read the revision. If you use
Alt followed by R followed by H to move to a revision the choices for
accepting or rejecting the revision can be found in the contextual menu by
using the application key.

The Alt followed by R followed by H activates the Jump to Next Revision
button under the review tab. The Alt followed by R followed by F is for the
Jump to previous revision button of the review tab. If you are not using
Word 2013 then check under the reviewing choices in the version of Word you
are using to get the applicable keys to use.

You can use Word's Advanced Find dialog to find highlighted text. In Word
2013 and I think in word 2010 you need to go under the home tab and navigate
to the Find button by using CTRL with right arrow key a few times or just
tab across the lower part of the ribbon under the Home tab. Press spacebar
on the Find button and use down arrow key to the Advance Find option and
press enter. This brings up the Find box as it was in earlier versions of
Word. (If you are using Word 2003 just use CTRL+F). Use tab key and if
there is a More button press spacebar. Tab to the Format button and press
spacebar. Arrow down to the highlight option and press enter key. Tab to
the Find Next button and press spacebar. Dismiss the Find box if necessary
by using escape key. Focus should be on the first highlighted area in the
document if you started at the top of the document. use CTRL with page down
and CTRL with page up to move forward or backward through a document to find
the highlighted text. With track changes turned on by using CTRL+Shift+E
you can read the revision when you move to it using JAWS key with CTRL and
R.

If you can turn on track changes using CTRL with shift and E and then use
Windows key with semicolon to get the list of things like comments and
revisions then use the revisions choice at the bottom of the list. You can
arrow down past the link and hear a bit about the revision. Press enter on
the link to move to the point in the document where the revision is located.
Again though, this method seems to work intermittently AS DOES THE KEYSTROKE
FOR LISTING COMMENTS (ctrl+Shift+apostrophe). . When focused on a comment
use the keystroke of Alt+Shift+apostrophe.

Take care.

A word of caution about this OE6 for Win7. If you run either Vipre or Eset

install then, after reinstalling your Vipre or Nod 32 each antivirus

Hi Mike,
From what I just found, it appears that you need to send your message in
rich text HTML format in order to change the background color.
While in an open message, choose the format menu, make sure that rich
  text
format is checked and then open the background sub-menu, and then
choose
color from the 3 available options.
No first letter navigation in the list of colors, so you will just have
arrow to white, and then hit enter to check the box.
I believe that the text color is determined by the O/S, and cannot be
changed.
Unless I don't understand what foreground and background colors that
Jaws
  is
reporting, I would say that it is reporting it incorrectly, which may be
a
bug in Jaws or some type of setting.
It reports the same to me whether I am in a plain text or html message,
  and
my background color is set to white for rich text format.
I am running Jaws 15 latest build, Win 7.

If you're checking on the colors of the character where the PC cursor is, it

probably best to use the invisible cursor and have it placed somewhere other

Good Morning Rick,

These are my current settings. With a new message open while in the
message edit field, I pressed, Alt + O, for the format menu. For style I
have normal checked, Font is set on black,
background is set for white, Incoding is Western European Windows, rich
text HTML is checked. This is how my emails are all supposedly set. While
typing
this message I press, Insert + 5, Jaws reports black on black but, once
sent received, if I invoke the, Insert + 5, keystroke on the open /
received
message black on white is reported. So, I'm not sure if what Jaws reports
can be trusted or not. I'll have to get my wife other sighted people I

  Hi Mike,
From what I just found, it appears that you need to send your message in
rich text HTML format in order to change the background color.
While in an open message, choose the format menu, make sure that rich
text
format is checked and then open the background sub-menu, and then choose
color from the 3 available options.
No first letter navigation in the list of colors, so you will just have
arrow to white, and then hit enter to check the box.
I believe that the text color is determined by the O/S, and cannot be
  changed.
Unless I don't understand what foreground and background colors that Jaws
is
reporting, I would say that it is reporting it incorrectly, which may be a
bug in Jaws or some type of setting.
It reports the same to me whether I am in a plain text or html message,
and
my background color is set to white for rich text format.
I am running Jaws 15 latest build, Win 7.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Changing Background Foreground colors

2014-07-07 Thread Brian Lee
Hello Mike,

The insert F5 does not seem to be working correctly. I am not using Outlook
Express but Outlook 2013 but this seems to be true in Word as well. If you
hold down insert and press F5 twice you will hear 18 zeros. The first nine
are for the RGB value for the foreground color and the second set of nine
digits is for the RGB values of the background color. For a black character
on a default white background the values should be nine zeros and nine
digits with 255 as their value. However, if you change to the Attributes
and Color scheme and use up arrow when you are on a top line of text you
hear that the background is white even though insert with F5 says black on
black. If you type some text and change it to the default white font color
when you check the RGB values they might still indicate all black but if you
select the white text and check the RGB values in the custom color box for
font color the RGB is then given correctly for the white color.

When using the Attributes and color scheme if I use CTRL with Home to move
to the top of this message and then use up arrow key I am told that there is
a white background. It does appear that the insert F5 is not working. Also
with the Attributes and Color scheme if I read current line I am told there
is a white background. Therefore, the reporting of nine zeros for the
background white color is not right.

Take care.

[JAWS-Users] My conclusions on OE V Wlm for my particular needs. My story....

2014-07-07 Thread Marion Woods

Hi all,

In December 2013, having considered my options for replacing my old trusty
HP desktop PC running WinXP and JFW11 , I had a new PC built to my
specifications and Windows7 installed as the operating system plus
Office2013
and Jaws15.

My first challenge was to decide what POP3 email client to use with my 5
very active email accounts, and at first it seemed a good idea to use
Outlook, but after struggling with it for a week, I gave up on the Idea ,
it seemed far too confusing with all it's bells and whistles.

As a possible alternative, I spent a great deal of time trying the
Various versions of OE for Windows7 on the technical list I subscribe to.
However, in spite of the great help I received from many lister's, I Just
could not get OE to work properly , in fact this inadvertently caused
problems installing Microsoft updates, I had to let the Microsoft
disability help desk sort out the problem for me, it took them over an
hour to fix it.

I thought why not carry on with WLM, I had heard that it was a bit
difficult using
the ribbons, however it was quite easy once you take the trouble to read
up on the way they are arranged, in practice I can see some of the
advantages, and in reality, the ribbons are quite logical to use.

I must say the excellent Jaws guide for WLM by David Bailes helped a great
deal, it can be found

[JAWS-Users] Jaws firefox

2014-07-07 Thread Robert Doc Wright
For some reason when I open firefox lately I can't move on the page unless I
tab. What would cause the virtual pc cursor to suddenly stop working when
I'm on a web page? Although when I press jawskey+z it says virtual pc
cursor off, which means it was already on but I cannot arrow anywhere on the
page? The version of firefox I have is 300.0

If we can't look at ourselves, and ask, why? then where does the learning
start?

Try the keystroke, Insert + 5, not, Insert + F5, see if that keystroke

Take care.

Take care.

Take care.

I'll have to get my wife other sighted people I
know
to keep an eye on my messages report back to me if any of them are not

Hi Marilyn,

Try the following to find out if your system is 32 or 64 bit: below
these

steps are the download links for both 32 64 bit systems.
1. Press, WindowsKey + Pause, to open system properties.
2. Route the Jaws cursor to the PC cursor, Insert + Numpad minus /
Jaws

cursor key.
3. Press your page-up key to take the cursor to the top of the page.
4. Arrow down 1 line at a time. Jaws will report XP or Windows7 but,
if
it's Windows7 keep arrowing down to find out if it's 32 or 64 bit. If
it's

a 32 bit system you might hear something like X86.

Another way to find out:
1. Press your Windows Key to open the start menu.
2. Go to Programs or All Programs press enter.
3. Press enter on Accessories arrow down to system tools press
enter.
4. Arrow down to System Information, press enter, tab 1 time, you
should
hear what OS you are running. You can also arrow down this list to
find out

more information about your computer.
Below are the direct download links for both the 32 64 bit versions
of J15

latest, J15.0.10026:

32 Bit Systems:

64 Bit Systems:

HTH
Take care.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Jaws and Windows 8.1

2014-07-07 Thread Mike Boyd

Lynn,
I am afraid that there are no great shortcuts to make Windows 8.1 easier to
navigate. What you can do is set it up to boot directly to the desktop like
the older versions of Windows did. Here are the steps for doing this:

-Open Control Panel either bvia the start screen or by pressing the Windows
logo key and pressing the letter X to open the Power Users menu, then
scrolling down to Control panel and press enter.
-In Control Panel, find either Appearance and Personalization, or Taskbar
and Navigation. The one that you find will depend on how you have Control
Panel configured.
-If you find Appearance and Personalization, open it and click on Taskbar
and Navigation,
- If you find Taskbar and Navigation, click on that, and then on the
Navigation tab inside of this.
- Now, check the box that says When I log in or close all open apps, go to
the desktop instead of the start screen.
- Next, tab down and press enter on the OK button. From now on, when you
sign in to Windows or close all open apps, the desktop will appear instead
of the start screen.

Another thing that you can do is to install an app that puts the start menue
back into Windows. Some examples of this are: Classic Shell
(www.classicshell.com), Start is Back (www.startisback.com) , or Start 8 (,
from (www.stardock.com).

I hope these tips help you out, but it would be good if you still tried to
get used to the Windows 8.1 interface, because things are probably not going
to return to where they were before.

Best,
Mike

[JAWS-Users] Getting started with Outlook 2010

2014-07-07 Thread Shari
Hi All, At work we just switched to Outlook 2010. I know there has been
discussion on the list about various features of Outlook, but I didn't follow
any of it because I wasn't using Outlook. Now I need to learn quickly. I read
the info Jaws 14 contains, which seems pretty extensive. My questions - 1. Are
there other sources I should go to for help getting started with Outlook? and
2. Does it make a difference whether I use Jaws 14 or 15? I have both but
generally use 14. If 15 works better with Outlook, I'm happy to switch.

Thanks for any thoughts and information,
Shari

For some reason when I open firefox lately I can't move on the page unless I
tab. What would cause the virtual pc cursor to suddenly stop working when
I'm on a web page? Although when I press jawskey+z it says virtual pc
cursor off, which means it was already on but I cannot arrow anywhere on the
page? The version of firefox I have is 300.0

If we can't look at ourselves, and ask, why? then where does the learning
start?
