Re: [JAWS-Users] Webroot SecureAnywhere AntiVirus
I like this antivirus and find it usable although only with Jaws cursor on the laptop. It runs pretty much automatically and doesn't require much oversight. I like that it has an internet console to control several functions. I especially like that it works with another antivirus installed.. I have Vipre as well. Here is the letter I sent to the group a while back about the program: I read about the webroot security program on the Kim Komando website and decided to try the free trial just to see if I could manage it with Jaws. I did do research on it first and was especially influenced by the article in PC magazine. http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2470312,00.asp It is a web based program and will work even with another anti virus installed. I have Vipre but am totally paranoid about security since I do much online banking and shopping. The following link is a page that gives detailed information about the features of the program. In IE you can click on a feature and read the details. This did not work in Firefox. http://www.webroot.com/us/en/support/how-to-updates??utm_source=consumer-receiptutm_medium=emailutm_campaign=Learn%20More%20-%20Receipt I was able to install the program by myself although all interaction is through the Jaws cursor. Many settings are automatic and it shows up in the System Tray and tells you whether protection is on. Several choices are available when using the applications key on the System Tray icon. The main screen takes some patience using the Jaws cursor and the left mouse simulation key. I have spent much time yesterday and today to see just how well I was able to use the program with Jaws. Most of the settings are automatic so it is not necessary to change much. What I especially like is that they have an online console where you can find the information and it works well with Jaws and IE 11.It is a bit strange that you can press enter on many items on the webpage that are not marked as links but they work that way and allow the information to appear at the end of the list of choices. This did not work with Firefox which I generally use as my default browser. Also, when doing Google searches in IE Webroot gives an evaluation of each link which jaws reads. This does not work with jaws in Firefox. If you are interested in learning about the program or buying it at half price then go through the following link on the Kim Komando website. http://www.webroot.com/us/en/home/promotions/kim?utm_source=komandoutm_medium=komando-bannerutm_campaign=komando On Kim's site there is an option to download a free trial which I did and after the two weeks I decided to buy the program. But you can't just click on the Buy It button in the trial or they charge you the full price. You have to go back to the Kim Komando page and click buy it. This, too, works better in IE since the purchase page includes a $10 for a CD of the program which is totally unnecessary. I was able to uncheck the box using IE but not using Firefox. There is also a comparison chart for the three levels of protection. I decided to go for the second level, the Internet Security for 3 computers or gadgets because of the extra identity protection feature. The antivirus is $19, the Internet Security is $29 and the Complete is $39 and includes 25 G of online back up. I don't want to mislead anyone that it is totally accessible with Jaws but it mostly is and I am pleased so far as most settings are automatic and I don't need the really advanced stuff. Lately, it happens that pressing a key, such as an arrow or the delete key or tab, suddenly Jaws seems to stutter and the action repeats itself until I press another key. It is very annoying, especially when deleting a message from the Inbox, for it oftens deletes 10 or 15 messages, then I have to go to Deleted Items to retrieve them. It happened right now, when I pressed Control-N for a new message, it opened a bunch of blank messages. I tried repairing Jaws, with no effect. Cannot remember if this started when I updated Jaws 16 to version 1925 or after that. Cannot even determine if it is a Jaws problem or a Windows problem, I am inclined to the latter, because now it happens with Jaws 15 too, which I also have installed in this computer. Has this happened to anyone? If so, any ideas? The Windows 8 debacle’s impact on Microsoft is abundantly clear in the presentation. CEO Satya Nadella stated that the grand goal of Windows 10 was to make PC users not just want to use Windows, but to love using the OS. Lofty statements are expected at press conferences, but the announcement that really caught everyone’s attention was the use of Windows 10 and “free” in the same sentence. Operating Systems VP Terry Myerson declared “we will be making available a free upgrade to Windows 10 to all devices running [Windows 8.1 and Windows Phone 8.1].” Most surprising, however, was the statement that all Windows 7 users will get a free upgrade for a year after Win10’s release and once they’ve upgraded, all future changes to Windows 10 will be free. Two days later, build 9926 arrived. Here’s an overview of what you can see in the current Win10 Tech Preview plus what’s likely to dribble out over the summer. If you haven’t been following Windows 10’s progress or need a refresher, I recommend reading the Oct. 2, 2014, Top Story, “Microsoft unveils preview of a new Windows,” and the Oct. 23, 2014, Windows 10 article, “Windows 10 Tech Preview now at build 9860″ (paid content). Winning back Windows users’ hearts and minds If you missed Microsoft’s two-and-a-half-hour dog-and-pony show, there’s an excellent 12-minute YouTube recap, put together by blogger Bavo Luysterborg (better known as Bav0). There is, of course, some ambiguity I’ll discuss at the end of this article. (Has Microsoft taken another lesson from Apple, or it is a sort of unspoken apology to those who bought Windows 8?) Re: [JAWS-Users] Is Outlook.com and Window Live Mail the same thing
Hi Ed, No not the same, Windows Live Mail is part of Windows Live Essentials, and is a stand alone email client. An Outlook.com email account can be set up in WLM however. If you want an outlook.com email address, then you will have to go to the web site, www.outlook.com, and create yourself a Microsoft account. Each person can have up to 5 email accounts under the same Microsoft account I think it is. [JAWS-Users] Installing WLM
Hi Group, When you install Windows Essentials does it install all the other program like Bing Bar, and the other ones or can you uncheck the ones you don't want? I just want to install WLM without installing the other programs that are in Windows Essentials. Is this possible? Re: [JAWS-Users] Installing WLM
I install everything then uninstall what I don't want. I know that’s a lot more work, but when installing I can't seem to select components via jaws. I can only select components in the uninstall process. -Original Message- From: Pinky Sent: Saturday, March 21, 2015 7:03 PM To: JAWS-Users-List 2 Subject: [JAWS-Users] Installing WLM Hi Group, When you install Windows Essentials does it install all the other program like Bing Bar, and the other ones or can you uncheck the ones you don't want? Hello Mike: Thank you very much! You are right, that was it! I feel stupid now for not having thought of it, but that is precisely the reason lists such as this one are so great, it releases mental blocks. I have no idea how that got changed, but am very glad the problem is solved, it was annoying. Re: [JAWS-Users] Jaws stutters and Win 7 repeats action
Hi Humberto, You are very welcome. I'm glad that was all it was. Other fixes for this kind of behavior can be the blink rate of the cursor or even uninstalling / reinstalling the soundcard driver. Personally, I had this problem it was the cursor blink rate got changed I don't have a clue as to how that happened. You are so correct about being a member of a list / group such as this I'm thankful to be a member as well! Take care.
