Microsoft offers a reasonably good anti-virus but it misses quite a few

And, no surprise this, support will be discontinued shortly.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Opening a thumb drive in Wind7

2015-07-02 Thread Michael Boyd
The Device with Removable Storage Expanded, is not the drive itself, only
the heading of the area that contains removeable drives. You should find
your drive listed below this, and if you do not, then the computer is not
recognizing your drive. Try unplugging it and then putting it into another
USB port. If you cannot get the computer to recognize it at all, then you
will need to try another computer. If this does not work, then your drive is
probably bad. I have had generic drives and ones like Kingston to suddenly
stop being recognized by any computer that I would plug them into.
Unfortunately in this case, you have probably lost whatever you have on the
drive. Hopefully not the only copy of the files. Note that some drives these
days are said to be Windows 8.1 compatible, and if this drive is one of
these, it will most likely appear under your Local Drives heading with the
hard drives.

Beware of many changes in this update.
the f6 key is just like pressing the tab key, it does not
jump across various controls like in itunes 12.1.
there is a new service called Apple music, some kind of a
streaming service.
I will have to play with it more, once I got it started I
could not stop it.
over all, every thing works, there are just extra edit
fields between your artist, albums, and music list.
extra check boxes across the top as well, like, for you,
new, connect to, are some of the new things.
Freedom Scientific needs to take a look when they can, and
at least get the f6 key working again.
So with a lot of tabbing around, itunes 12.2 does work very
good with the latest jaws 16 release.
happy music listening to all...

Open the JAWS Help menu, Alt + H, and arrow to the Start Up Wizard. Open
this, and tab through the items until you find theoptions for starting JAWS.
uncheck the boxes that Start for all users, then if the person is using the
same account as you, when asked when to start for This User, select never.
Make sure that you have a shortcut key set up to start JAWS with, or you
will likely have troubles getting it started yourself. Do not uncheck the
box that says Start JAWS at the log on screen, or you will not be prompted
by JAWS to enter your password when signing into your computer. The shortcut
key mentioned can be set up by going to the desktop icon for JAWS, right
clicking on it, and selecting Properties. You will open on the Shortcut tab,
so Tab down to the shortcut key edit field and press the Alt Control and J
keys. This will be the shortcut for you to open JAWS with.

Yes, you can access the Microsoft Store through the internet at:

Then search or browse for what it is that you want.

2015-07-02 Thread Michael Boyd
You can do one fof two things. 1. Press the insert + space bar at the same
time, and when the tone plays, press the letter S. Then do the same thing to
start JAWS speaking again. Or, 2. Exit JAWS altogether by Alt Tabbing around
to JAWS, then pressing ALT F4 and then Enter when prompted if you want to
quit JAWS. After, you can then restart JAWS.

Hi Brian Lee
Will try your method. Thank you
Cuong.

On 6/30/15, Brian Lee brianl...@charter.net wrote:

Hello Cuong,

If you are just finding a word and not replacing it then you can use
shift with F6 to move to the document pane, use Alt with delete key to
get your position, and then use F6 to move back to the navigation
pane. Press spacebar on the Find Next button, use shift key with F6
and read the position with Alt and delete. You don't have to keep
jumping between the panes using shift with F6 to move to the document
and F6 to move back to the navigation pane. Once you find an
occurrence of what you are finding and move to the document pane you
can just use CTRL with page down to find the next occurrence or CTRL
with page up to find a previous occurrence and check position with the
Alt and delete key.

If you are wanting to use replace option but not the replace all

choice
then you first use CTRL with H to move to the page of the dialog where
you can do replacements. It is a good idea to start at the top of the

document

first. After typing in what you want to find and what you want it

replaced
with you can use Alt with F to activate the Find Next button. Press
escape, use Alt+Delete to get position, and then use CTRL with H again
and use the

Alt+R to do the replacing. You can then use escape key, find position
using
alt with delete, use CTRL with H followed by Alt with R to replace it
or alt with F to find the next occurrence.

In Word 2013 there doesn't seem to be a way to switch between the
navigation pane and the document pane the say you can if just finding
something.

Also,
in the dialog box the Alt+delete only gives pixel position for the
control in focus so you have to be in the navigation pane to get the
position of something using Alt key with delete key.

Take care.

Hi Mario,

Yes, both Malware Bytes and Hitman Pro work well with Vipre. Just remember,
if you have one or both of these programs installed when you start to
install Vipre, they will be uninstalled during the Vipre installation. So,
install Vipre first, then one or both of these programs.

press insert + J, up arrow once to “exit” and press return.
Or, as i suggested and someone else suggested, quicker is to press insert + f4,
to be prompted if you want to exit jaws.

You can do one fof two things. 1. Press the insert + space bar at the same
time, and when the tone plays, press the letter S. Then do the same thing
to start JAWS speaking again. Or, 2. Exit JAWS altogether by Alt Tabbing
around to JAWS, then pressing ALT F4 and then Enter when prompted if you
want to quit JAWS. After, you can then restart JAWS.

Interesting thing - after stopping JAWS completely and turning back on, it
read all kind of extra stuff. I restarted computer and back to normal. All
of that extra could be helpful on Facebook. It read me stuff like how many
e-mails I had and how many were unread plus File, Edit, View, etc. etc.

Insert J, Enter. JAWS will ask, do you want to quit JAWS? You hit
 Enter
again. Then hit control Alt J when you want to turn JAWS back on.

Whether you think you can or you can't, you're probably right. Henry

Hi,
For some reason, your first part of your reply does not jive,
Are you using jaws 16?

All I get is the jaws version number using J14.
You can exit from the jaws option menu.

Insert + F4, then spacebar is the recommended key stroke.

press insert + J, up arrow once to “exit” and press return.
Or, as i suggested and someone else suggested, quicker is to press insert + f4,
to be prompted if you want to exit jaws.

After you have installed JAWS 17, you will be able to use the

Freedom

[JAWS-Users] Skype 7.6 and voicemails

2015-07-02 Thread Cristóbal
Hello list,

Using Skype 7.6, I am unable to find the voicemail option under the view
menu as before. I have gone through options and indeed, the VM settings
section is still there and I do get notifications when I am left a VM, but
for the life of me, I can’t figure out how to access them. I’ve poked around
with the Jaws cursor and there doesn’t seem to be some funky button or
graphic in order to either play or land in the VM window to click on either.

Am I missing something or is this some sort of limitation/oversite with this
latest Skype release or is it a function of Jaws perhaps unable to read
something?

I have a Skype number for my business so this is an important feature to me.
The workaround I’m using for now is accessing the VM’s on the Skype app on
my iPhone. Not ideal, but at least it works. I’d like to be able to access
and play VM’s on my PC as before though.

Thanks,

[JAWS-Users] New eBook on JAWS

2015-07-02 Thread George Calvert
Hi List,

I would like to announce the publication of a free eBook called
Getting Back to Work with JAWS. It is a guide for people who have
never used JAWS before, but who need to use a screen reader to become
productive again with their computer. To download the book for free,
please visit http://www.backtoworkblind.blogspot.com/

The book itself is a zipped set of Rich Text Format (RTF) files that
can be read using any word processor. There is absolutely no cost,
ads, registrations r commercial aspects to this whatsoever. I wrote
this book after losing my vision three years ago. As many of you know,
it is hard work adjusting to using a computer entirely through a
keyboard and synthesized speech. At first, even the simplest of tasks
can seem overwhelming.

My hope is that this book will give new JAWS users techniques, tips,
and strategies needed to become a productive JAWS user in a very short
period of time. It covers the basics of working with Windows 7, the
Internet, and Microsoft Office programs.

I would love to receive feedback on how to make the book even more
useful for new JAWS users. Please feel free to send me any comments or
suggestions at backtoworkbl...@gmail.com.

And I'm not going there,

Insert J, Enter. JAWS will ask, do you want to quit JAWS? You hit Enter
again. Then hit control Alt J when you want to turn JAWS back on.

Whether you think you can or you can't, you're probably right. Henry
Ford.

Interesting.

Mine brings up the context menu with options as the first choice.

I'm not being combative, just confused lol.

Insert plus j doesn't ask me if I want to quit jaws. Is that because I
 have
jaws showing up in the system tray?

Lol, how about I undo what I did, so I can answer my own question. Oops?
 lol

Re: [JAWS-Users] itunes 12.2 update

2015-07-02 Thread Holger Fiallo
when you see that, use down arrow you will see welcome do not check that go
down until you see last uncheck, check that and go to next. IMostly is about
how to use the free music blank. PS. if using jaws 15, and you have audio
books it will not read you your list when you go to an author. thetThe The
only thing you get after you select the author and tab is edit. moving up or
down left or right does not read any book.

A Ballast for My Soul

Life is like a stormy sea
That tosses to and fro,
But God's Word will ever be
A ballast for my soul.

By its truth I'll be held fast
Till I reach heaven's shore
Where I will be home at last
And sail life's sea no more!
