I upgraded in place, and I have a windows.old folder in my c drive. I
read you can delete that with disc cleanup. but when I ran disc
cleanup it removed everything in that folder except system32.

so windows.old is still on my computer!

I've spent a month with win 10, starting with a dev copy and then a
fully copy on my laptop, and I'm going back to, and staying with
windows 7.

Of all the things I disliked, having no control of updates was at the
top of the list, closely followed by Edge, and also the lack of decent
accessibility options for low vision users.
I imagine JAWS will catch up win 10, but it already works just fine with
Win 7.

Re: [JAWS-Users] VocalizerVoices: Expressive & Direct

2015-08-12 Thread Flor Lynch
I've found the Vocalizer Expressive voices to be more responsive. My view is
that they are probably as good as Eloquence, at least the one I use, IMHO
is! Perhaps some earlier JAWS versions won't take too kindly to them,
whereas the Vocalizer Direct (being older and all that) may be better
suited.

I'm with you, Jason.

I will be happier with Outlook, if I can find out how to enlarge the print
size just a little and how to read a sender's e-mail address, as well as how
to keep a sender's address.

I called the library to see if they had a book on Outlook 2013, but not yet,
and neither did American Printing House or National Braille Press.

what you do is select the desktop
with ctrl+m until you hear desktop then one of your icons unselected
then just press alt+F4 and you will get the shut down options
windows 10 doesn't have a shut down sound so when your screen is blank it's
powered off I believe.

2. There is a solution since Internet Explorer is also an option
with

Windows 10 and apparently, Windows Live Mail and Outlook do work with the
new operating system.

3. Is there enough of a difference between Windows 8.1 and Windows
10

to make the change worth the transition?

4. Will Jaws be able to work with Edge and the e-mail client later
on?

UP till now, Microsoft has been very supportive where screen readers are
concerned. Why then, is part of Windows 10 not accessible with Jaws? Or,
is

it too early to load 10?

Re: [JAWS-Users] windows 10 doesn't shut down

2015-08-12 Thread Kevin

what you do is select the desktop
with ctrl+m until you hear desktop then one of your icons unselected
then just press alt+F4 and you will get the shut down options
windows 10 doesn't have a shut down sound so when your screen is blank it's
powered off I believe.

Hieahow do I force a full shut down on my laptop, simply hitting
altogether fbled will just close what I'm doing, but not bringing
the shut down dialog. When I hit the power button in the start
menu, it will just put it into sleep. How do I force my laptop
to shut down what I'm doing? I dont want rforce it by holding
the power button for 10 seconds, because it would force the
update to stop to. I'm using windows 10. My windows 7 and

I've spent a month with win 10, starting with a dev copy and then a
fully copy on my laptop, and I'm going back to, and staying with windows 7.
Of all the things I disliked, having no control of updates was at the
top of the list, closely followed by Edge, and also the lack of decent
accessibility options for low vision users.
I imagine JAWS will catch up win 10, but it already works just fine with
Win 7.

Hey Tom,

How ya been. I do not believe that there is anything that will tell you if a
border is already there, unless maybe if you find the feature on the Home
tab where you can add or remove the borders. There might be some check marks
here that will tell you that the top, bottom or either side border has been

Subject: [JAWS-Users] my experience with Windows 10

i upgraded my Windows 7 pro computer to Windows 10 pro not from my windows
update, i used the media creation tool.
i think you can find the tool by searching for windows 10 free upgrade or
something. when running the tool i selected upgrade this PC.

the start of the upgrade can be run with jaws speech. it'll first say
downloading windows 10. the progress bar can not be announced by jaws
unless you press alt+tab to jaws to windows 10 upgrade. but i'm not sure if
you should do that too many times. when the download is complete jaws will
announce it. then jaws will say checking your computer. after the computer
check, jaws will announce gathering necessary updates. after that jaws will
announce choose what to keep. you'll have three options: keep personal
files and apps, just keep files, or keep nothing. i chose the first one
because i think if you don't keep apps jaws might be deleted.
*note*
before starting this process make sure you disable antivirus and disconnect
printer and other devices you can keep speakers and the mouse connected
if you don't you might get upgrade failed or jaws will announce there was
a problem.
when the upgrade begins jaws will be silent let the upgrade proceed, i let
it go over night and when i checked in the morning my computer had turned
off.
when you turn the computer back on you'll be presented with the customize
your computer, the same as when you bought a new computer. jaws won't be
active i'm not sure if windows narrator can work. i just got sighted help
to perform this task.
after that's complete your computer will have windows 10 when jaws starts if
activation was lost just go into update activation if you get any other jaws
errors run the jaws update

Download the JAWSR screen reading software version 16.0 update to your
downloads folder from one of the links below:

. JAWS 16.0.4350 64-bit English - May 2015

ftp://ftp.freedomscientific.com/users/hj/private/WebFiles/JAWS/J16.0.4350ENU
-x64.exe

. JAWS 16.0.4350 32-bit English - May 2015

ftp://ftp.freedomscientific.com/users/hj/private/WebFiles/JAWS/J16.0.4350ENU
-x86.exe

you want to save the download

Once the update is in your downloads folder run it you should get the
options modify, repair or remove. choose repair!
after the repair is done all should be fine with jaws.
i'm just using windows 10 for the basic operating system and none of the new
features. jaws works fine no problem with that.
windows 10 renamed the computer folder this PC i did notice that when after
upgrade my internet explorer did not work, so i just deleted it and
installed firefox.
i use windows live mail for email and it works fine.
here are some tips i found:

in windows 10 press win+I to go to settings (control panels) to shut
down/restart the computer select the desktop using alt+tab or right mouse
click on a blank space on the desktop then press alt+F4 a window popsup with
the options shut down, hibernate, sleep, restart or log off select one then
press enter

the windows 10 search field is Cortana
press win key and til Cortana is announced then type your search criteria
followed by enter to get disc defrag type it in Cortana press enter to get
windows update type it in Cortana press enter to use notepad type it in
Cortana then press enter to get programs and features type it in Cortana
then press enter
***
you can get most of what you want by typing it into Cortana when Cortana is
announced jaws won't announce type in text, but the typing field is ready to
accept text so just type after hearing Cortana
**
(note not necessary if you already have a screen reader) press win key+enter
to toggle windows narrator on/off
**

Hey Tom,

How ya been. I do not believe that there is anything that will tell you if a
border is already there, unless maybe if you find the feature on the Home tab
where you can add or remove the borders. There might be some check marks here
that will tell you that the top, bottom or either side border has been applied.
Hope this helps.

I would imagine that it only works with pop because the imap keeps the same
folder structure as the actual account such as with gmail.
The message rules button in WLM 11 is located in the folders tab in the one
labeled groups.
To put imap messages into folders you would need to set it up on the
original site such as gmail.

I do not use WLM 2011, I use 2012, and this is found on the Folders ribbon,
so you will have to look through your menus to find where the Message Rules
item is found. However, once you do find this, you would want to select
"Where the From line contains a specific account", and in the next item you
would select "Send to this specific folder", now, in the following edit
fields, you wouldtype in the email address for the JAWS Users List, then the
name of your folder. Next, give the rule a name. Now, click on apply and OK
to finish setting up your rule.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] my experience with Windows 10

i upgraded my Windows 7 pro computer to Windows 10 pro not from my windows
update, i used the media creation tool.
i think you can find the tool by searching for windows 10 free upgrade or
something. when running the tool i selected upgrade this PC.

the start of the upgrade can be run with jaws speech. it'll first say
downloading windows 10. the progress bar can not be announced by jaws
unless you press alt+tab to jaws to windows 10 upgrade. but i'm not sure if
you should do that too many times. when the download is complete jaws will
announce it. then jaws will say checking your computer. after the computer
check, jaws will announce gathering necessary updates. after that jaws will
announce choose what to keep. you'll have three options: keep personal
files and apps, just keep files, or keep nothing. i chose the first one
because i think if you don't keep apps jaws might be deleted.
*note*
before starting this process make sure you disable antivirus and disconnect
printer and other devices you can keep speakers and the mouse connected
if you don't you might get upgrade failed or jaws will announce there was
a problem.
when the upgrade begins jaws will be silent
let the upgrade proceed, i let it go over night and when i checked in the
morning my computer had turned off.
when you turn the computer back on you'll be presented with the customize
your computer, the same as when you bought a new computer. jaws won't be
active i'm not sure if windows narrator can work. i just got sighted help
to perform this task.
after that's complete your computer will have windows 10
when jaws starts if activation was lost just go into update activation
if you get any other jaws errors run the jaws update

Download the JAWSR screen reading software version 16.0 update to your
downloads folder from one of the links below:

. JAWS 16.0.4350 64-bit English - May 2015

ftp://ftp.freedomscientific.com/users/hj/private/WebFiles/JAWS/J16.0.4350ENU

ftp://ftp.freedomscientific.com/users/hj/private/WebFiles/JAWS/J16.0.4350ENU
-x86.exe

you want to save the download

Once the update is in your downloads folder run it you should get the
options modify, repair or remove. choose repair!
after the repair is done all should be fine with jaws.
i'm just using windows 10 for the basic operating system and none of the new
features. jaws works fine no problem with that.
windows 10 renamed the computer folder this PC
i did notice that when after upgrade my internet explorer did not work, so i
just deleted it and installed firefox.
i use windows live mail for email and it works fine.
here are some tips i found:

in windows 10 press win+I to go to settings (control panels)
to shut down/restart the computer select the desktop using alt+tab or right
mouse click on a blank space on the desktop then press alt+F4
a window popsup with the options shut down, hibernate, sleep, restart or log
off select one then press enter

the windows 10 search field is Cortana
press win key and til Cortana is announced then type your search criteria
followed by enter
to get disc defrag type it in Cortana press enter
to get windows update type it in Cortana press enter
to use notepad type it in Cortana then press enter
to get programs and features type it in Cortana then press enter
***
you can get most of what you want by typing it into Cortana
when Cortana is announced jaws won't announce type in text, but the typing
field is ready to accept text so just type after hearing Cortana
**
(note not necessary if you already have a screen reader)
press win key+enter to toggle windows narrator on/off
**

Shane and list, like Shane the research it function for
amazon works on my Sony windows vista 32 bit laptop using
Jaws V16.04350 but as I noted on my original post, on my
newer windows 7 Toshiba 64 bit laptop also running the Jaws

I know most of you do not have this problem from the posts

are having the same issue after upgrading to the latest jaws

I'm having the same problem, one day it was working, next
day it completely quit. All other research-it functions seem
to be working.
Might want to send an email to
supp...@freedomscientific.com. I'm currently talking to them
and hopefully will get this fixed. Funny thing is on my
desktop which is running 32 bit windows 7 pro with Jaws
16.0.4350 it works just fine. Laptop running 64 bit Windows
7 home premium is having the problem.

Re: [JAWS-Users] question about exporting contacts to outlook?

2015-08-12 Thread Carolyn Arnold
Ask someone on the list, but I think that if you go Alt F and go through the
prompts, there are import and export. You would be exporting from Century
Link and Importing to Outlook, which of course you know. I think that the
pathways are in Alt F. What I don't know is the process to establish the
destination to Century Link and be sure that it arrives in Outlook intact.
Good computer guy only got my addresses and not my distribution lists. We
knew that going in, that probably they would not transport. I did have my
addresses backed up in a document file so that worst case, we could re-enter
all of them by hand. I wonder how many of the 125 or so I would have found
to be expendable all of a sudden.
