[JAWS-Users] trouble with downloading PDF documents on webpages
I am having trouble downloading PDF documents using a link on certain webpages. Right clicking the link does not give me the option to save it, nor does left clicking. When pressing enter or the spacebar, it attempts to open the document which crashes IE 11. I do not have this problem on all webpages, so I'm wondering if anyone has a suggestion as to how to download the PDF documents I need without opening them with IE or, if I must open it from the webpage, how to access the file menu to save it on my computer. I am using both JAWS 14 and 15 with Windows 7 and IE 11. Thanks. Vicki For answers to frequently asked questions about this list visit: http://www.jaws-users.com/help/
[JAWS-Users] Reading by paragraph in Word with Jaws 16
Hi List, I am trying to figure out how to jump from the first line of paragraph 1 to the first line of paragraph 2. In my test document, paragraph 1 had 2 lines followed by 2 carriage returns, so a blank line was left. The second paragraph consisted of 3 sentences, but only 2 lines. Now, when I was on the first line of paragraph 1 and I used the Control Down Arrow, instead of hearing the first line of the second paragraph, I heard the second line of that first paragraph. Am I doing something wrong or misunderstanding something? I would like to get this strait, because I am trying to make sure that I know exactly what I am getting with each command Many thanks for any help! Re: [JAWS-Users] trouble with downloading PDF documents on webpages
Hi, I open a PDF like my monthly bank statement from my banks site, then I save it as a .txt file. I'm using Adobe 11 and Jaws 16. So what I do is, when the PDF is open on site, I press Alt F, then arrow down to other and enter there, it pops up save as...and the *accessible .txt is highlighted. I give it a name, but it's not necessary to do this, then press Alt S to save, it goes right to my documents on my windows 7 system. - Original Message - From: Vicki To: JAWS Sent: Thursday, August 27, 2015 8:38 AM Subject: [JAWS-Users] trouble with downloading PDF documents on webpages I am having trouble downloading PDF documents using a link on certain webpages. Go to this PC. Then, select your C drive, and hit, alt enter, and tab twice. You should hear disk clean up. Then, hit enter, and it will take a few minutes, and then, present you, with choices to clean up or not. Check the ones you want to be cleaned, and tab over to ok. The Defragmentation service is true, as Windows 10 keeps your hard drive defragged constantly so as to maximize the storage space and it's information retrieval. In terms of the Disk clean up, I don't believe this has been automated in Windows 10, but as of Windows 8.1, disk clean up is still a manual task, though, I suppose that you can automate it by setting it as a scheduled task once a week, or so, but again, you can always set Internet Explorer to empty temporary internet files automatically once you finish browsing. That has always been in the Internet Explorer settings, but in terms of emptying out your recycle bin, or cleaning up dump files and/or log files, those you must do manually, since the computer can never know which ones you want to delete and which ones you don't. Like I said above though, I may be incorrect in this statement, to please take it with a grain of salt, as I am not officially using Windows 10 yet, as it has not been reported ready for my computer. Re: [JAWS-Users] using sleep or hybernation mode with jaws on win7?
hybernation is prone to failing more often than sleep, although it is safer than sleep when leaving the computer for an extended amount of time. I would close any open programs, unless the program is running a process, like a cleanup, and letting the computer do it's thing. chances are, it will go to sleep after the process is finished, in which, you'd have to press any key to wake the computer up. hth On 8/27/2015 1:55 AM, Adam Morris wrote: Hi all, Using jaws 16 with win7. Re: [JAWS-Users] trouble with downloading PDF documents on webpages
Hi When you open a PDF document in your browser, such as internet explorer, the PDF document will be opened in the browser by default. In the browser, there is no option to save the PDF document in a different format. But when you opened the saved PDF document, you were using Adobe Reader which has an option of saving the document in a different format, such as text. But Adobe Reader has an option to be the program used even if you open the document from your browser. With this option, when you open a PDF document from your browser, the choices to save in a different format such as text are available. To set Adobe Reader to always be the program to open a PDF document, open Adobe Reader. Then type alt+e to open the edit menu and up arrow 2 times to get to the accessibility sub-menu. Press right arrow to open this sub-menu and then press down arrow one time to get to Setup Assistant and press enter. This will open a 5 page dialog which allows you to choose accessibility options for screen readers, magnification programs or both. Tab to the next button and press enter. Do not press enter on the Use recommended settings and skip setup button. The last four pages of this dialog allow you to set various accessibility options. You navigate through those pages by pressing tab until you get to the next button and press enter. The option we are looking for to always open a PDF document in Adobe Reader is on the last page, titled Display PDF documents in the web browser. Make sure that this option is not checked. Then tab to finish and press enter. -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Trish Sent: Thursday, August 27, 2015 11:57 To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] trouble with downloading PDF documents on webpages Hi, I have 2 computers one is running IE 11, so I just now went to my bank and the E statements. so here's what I did.. Re: [JAWS-Users] alt+D
Hi Kevin: I think it is this jump list setting which is causing the problem. After unchecking it and restarting your computer, you should have access to your email links. For example, before I unchecked it. After using Skype, I went to the taskbar, press applications key. I could not find quit Skype, it was not one of the choices. Again, after unchecking this item, and restarting my computer. All works again on the taskbar. There are still a few areas where F S needs to tweak a bit, but over all very good so far. [JAWS-Users] JAWS 16 is not consistent when reading Word documents
Hi all, I'm using JAWS 16.4350 on my work and I have the following problem: when I'm focused in a word document and when I'm reading the content with up or down arrow (and when PC cursor is active) JAWS for a strange reason sometimes is repeting parts of the previous line. This is really confusing and I cannot read smoothly any text in Word with this problem. The window is maximized. I have also the version 15.0.11024 installed on my computer and this doesn't happen with that version. Does it happen to others here on the list? What could be the problem? This is happening only in Word documents, not with txt, pdf, html or excel documents. Many thanks in advance for any suggestion! Now, when I was on the first line of paragraph 1 and I used the Control Down Arrow, instead of hearing the first line of the second paragraph, I heard the second line of that first paragraph. Re: [JAWS-Users] trouble with downloading PDF documents on webpages
Hi, I have 2 computers one is running IE 11, so I just now went to my bank and the E statements. so here's what I did.. I clicked on July statement and Adobe 11 loaded it, I was able to read it online no trouble. But when I wanted to save it as accessible *.txt* because there was no other submenu in the Alt F menu. I had to let it save as the *PDF and whatever the file name it gave, maybe the file name could be changed as long as the .PDF extension was left. so it save and went to My docs. Then I entered on it there, it opened it again, I heard jaws announce processing page 1 of 3.. after it finished, I was reading it same as it was presented online at my bank. Then, the other submenu was available after I press, Alt F, then I saved it as a *.txt* file. But Jaws read the PDF online and when I saved it in the original form it saved online. so I guess it's up to you if you choose to rename it for clearification or not. - Original Message - From: Vicki To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Sent: Thursday, August 27, 2015 10:06 AM Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] trouble with downloading PDF documents on webpages The problem is that it will not open up on the website. Hi, What choices do you get when you right click or use the application key on the link? I find that getting focus on the link can be a little troublesome so in order to get the focus on the link I want I use JawsKey F7 to bring up the links list, find the link I want and tab to move to link and press enter. Then the application or right click will offer me the save option. [JAWS-Users] Amazon site and product details
Hey gang, I used to be able to review additional info about a product with JAWS on the amazon site by going to links and then product details. That link is no longer available so obviously they have changed it or called it something else. Last time I was on the site I found what they called it and went to it for additional info. [JAWS-Users] Printing envelope, MS Word 2013
Hello Gang: I can print an envelope perfectly. However, I have a slight problem. I cannot get JAWS to read the delivery address or return address, in the printing process. Here is what I do and what I hear: 1. Have a word document with the address. 2. Get the cursor in the middle of the address. 3. Alt plus the letter M. I hear: upper ribbon mailings tab 4. Strike the letter E, for envelope. I hear: Delivery Address edit. However, it does not read out loud the address. Nor can I arrow up or down and hear anything. Tab to the return address. I hear: Return address edit. It does not read out loud the return address nor can I arrow through it. Tab to the print button, and strike the space bar. The envelope prints precisely. So, my bottom line question is how do I get JAWS to read the mailing address and return address? Using JAWS 16.4350 and MS Word 2013. Thanks. You are going to have to use the JAWS cursor in there. Good old Microsoft has made it so that that area does not read with JAWS. In the FS Word training Dan Clark, ever the optimist, says, and we cannot get JAWS to tell us what is in there, we are hoping Microsoft will fix that soon. Re: [JAWS-Users] Printing envelope, MS Word 2013
Hi. I just verified that 3 out of the 4 screen readers that I tried have the same problem. The only one that could read the delivery and return addresses is System Access. Jaws 15 and Jaws 16, WindowEyes 9.2, and NVDA 2015.2 could not read those fields. I read somewhere that it is supposed to be a known Microsoft Word 2013 problem, and not a screen reader problem. But, then why can System access read the fields? Very puzzling. I have what you have. I haven't had it but a couple of weeks, so I'd like to know that too. Did you try routing JAWS to PC? I'm not going to like that, if I can't get it to read my address and return, in case there is something I need to change. I'll have to put in a return address the first time, I know. Re: [JAWS-Users] [Bulk] Re: [Bulk] Re: desktop
HI Jim, I'm afraid this isn't correct. If you press alt+enter on the This PC icon, this will bring up the system properties, in which case, you have to tab to system tools, press enter, then tab to disk clean up, where you can choose which drive you wish to run the disk clean up wizard on. An easier way of accomplishing this task is to open up This PC, then arrow to the drive you wish to run a disk clean up on, and press alt+enter. This will bring up the drive's properties, then tabbing to the disk clean up button, you can press the spacebar, and the wizard will automatically scan your drive for unnecessary files to be deleted. I can't remember if it will delete cookies and the like, as I think you'll have to go into Internet Options for that, but at least you'll be able to delete temporary internet files and Windows temp files and such like. I should also point out that when you have the drive's properties opened, a press of control+tab will take you to the tools page of the drive where you can run a scan disk, a defrag and a back-up, depending on your preference. Good luck. Scorpio -Original Message- From: Jim Rawls Sent: Thursday, August 27, 2015 8:43 AM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] [Bulk] Re: [Bulk] Re: desktop Go to this PC. You'll receive a dialog box prompting you to select the default user and to enter the password associated with that user. At this point, you can close the userpasswords2 dialog box, if it's still open, or unless you want to make more advanced modifications in one of the other tabs, and from that point onwards, it should boot directly into the desktop. Good luck. I understand that in 10 we do not have to do defrag or disk clean up? Is that correct?I do not have a solid state hard drive, just a great big one, 1 tb. This command was part of the list of commands that included the IP release and renew commands for your internet, the check disk and disk defrag and
