[JAWS-Users] JAWS Scripting

2016-03-06 Thread Samuel Negron
Hello,

I am new to this list! I'm excited to move farther along my JAWS journey,
here.

I am a moderately advanced JAWS user. I currently have no coding experience.
However, I would like to begin with JAWS scripting and eventually become a
full on advanced JAWS nerd. I was hoping to get some advice from a user as
to where a rank ammiture should start. Any advice would be very much
appreciated.

Thanks,

Sam

How accessible is it, with jaws 17? I mainly use excel, outlook and word.
I just found out, I can upgrade through my work.

Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] Jaws15 Pass through key?

Hi Jorge,
Here is an example when the JAWS pass through key is used. Let us say that
you are on a web site that has its own shortcut key command built right into
the web site. Let us say that when you are in a particular application, to
open your list of files, press insert + the letter F. If you do not press
the JAWS pass through key, JAWS will say the format information of the page,
because that is the default behavior of the insert + F command. So, to open
a file on that web site with insert + F, you have to press the insert + 3 on
the numbers row first, and then press the insert + F to get that command to
the application on the web site to open your files. You have to override the
JAWS command for insert + F to get it through to the application you are
using. You want the application to use that command instead of JAWS. So, you
have to pass that JAWS command through. I hope that I have cleared things up
for you. Have a great one, and let me know if you have anymore questions.

You need to adjust the volume in the Youtube player.

Open a Youtube video.

While it is playing, find the Mute button. You need to then be focused on
this button with the virtual cursor off.

WHen you are on the mute button, you can press up arrow and down arrow to
raise and lower the volume respectively.

I just looked for the Mute button with the virtual cursor on, then turned it
off
and made sure I was on it and then used up or down arrow as appropriate.

Once you do that, that volume remains in effect whenever you view other videos

Adrian,

I posted directions and that is using the regular Youtube site.

You can also do a search on the regular site and have the results broken down
by
heading. If you are playing a video, there will be a list of nineteen or
twenty
items which are other videos it deems similar.

You post no directions for how to locate You tube's volume control because they
don't exist in accessible form. This is where Accessible YouTube can come in
useful. See the message I just posted. Admittedly, it's inconsistent, but
volume
and mute controls are hard to find on the regular YouTube website.

I rarely use Accessible YouTube because, perhaps like you, I want website
designers to make their regular websites fully accessible. However, another
undeniable advantage of Accessible YouTube is that there are no commercials.

Hi,
I have found that I cannot control the volume of videos that much. I turn
the volume of the computer up loud, and when I start playing the video, I
turn the computer volume up or down. If you have a laptop, the volume up and
down are two of the function keys. If you do not have a laptop or do not
know which function keys are the volume controls, you can press alt + B to
get to your system tray, and press S for speakers. Then, press the
applications key and press enter on the first option and a window will come
up so that you can adjust volume and many other settings dealing with the
sound card and speakers. If you do that, the volume of the video will take
care of itself. Have a great one.

No, Dave, he was referring to the video volume levels.

Since my external speech synthesizer died, I turned down the video level on

Hi,
There is no need to use accessible Youtube. I use the regular site, and here
is what I do. First, turn off virtual cursor. The letters J, K, and L allows
you to rewind, pause, and fast forward the video in that order. If you want
to find a video, just press R for region, and you will be taken close to the
first video. You just have to arrow down a little to find the video. If you
use IE, Youtube works so much better than on Firefox or Google Chrome. When
you turn off the virtual cursor, you can tab to the buttons that control a
video as well. But all you need is J, K, and L to control the video. No
reason to use accessible Youtube at all. Have a great one.

Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] YouTube video volume

Tim and Kevin,

On my system, not only does YouTube volume diminish, sometimes it even goes
away completely. It often happens after an MS security update. getting at
the volume control on YouTube is tricky, but here are three methods that
work with IE11, though inconsistently.

1. The easiest is to change the volume on Accessible YouTube, which seems to
carry over to the volume on everyone's YouTube. Go to
http://www.povidi.com/yourtube/
Press alt-p for play, t hen up arrow to raise the volume in increments.

The other two methods might or might not work on the regular YouTube
website:

2. To reach the player and volume controls, turn off the virtual cursor with
insert-z, then tab a couple of times . (Thanks to Mario and another lister
for this one.) In my case, I had to shift-tab twice. This method did not
work the last time I tried.

3. Again insert-z to turn off the virtual cursor, then tab down to "theater
mode." Then up arrow like crazy to raise the volume. (this method also
didn't work the last time I tried.)

I'm sorry that I can't give a definitive answer, but I can confirm that
volume is a real problem on YouTube and that player control accessibility is
poor. However, one of these methods ought to work. FYI, my system is Win7
64-bit, and I've used these methods with JAWS 16 and 17, and probably also
with 15. I can't remember if I tried Firefox. I did try Chrome, but that
browser created such havoc on my system, as it does for a lot of people,
that I uninstalled it.

Hi,
Warning, going into the control panel or any other settings to turn off
using a password will only work if you put the computer to sleep. People are
always saying this will turn off the need to put in a pass word for good. If
you put the computer to sleep, this will allow you to wake up the computer
without putting in a password. How ever, if you shut the computer down, you
will still have to put in a password when you restart your computer. The
only way that you can make your computer go right to the desktop after
shutting it down, is to type in a phrase into the run dialog. I saw this on
the list yesterday, but I was not interested, because I want a password when
I restart the computer. I do have that checked to not require a password

Sorry about any confusion my last email may have caused.
You know that my w-10 and Jaws complete guide can be shared by anyone.

people.
People that I helped teach and learn w-10 with Jaws.
People changing a few words and then calling my work there work.
For some reason they want to receive the reward for my hard work.
I asked this person 4 or 5 times now to quit plagiarizing my work and
calling it his own.
But he refuses to do so, so I had to make a public statement to this effect.
He needs to come up with his own work and needs to quit taking credit for my

Again I apologize for any extra traffic this may have caused.
Yes, my guide that David has graciously put on his Jaws web site can be

Re: [JAWS-Users] YouTube video volume

2016-03-06 Thread Adrian Spratt
You post no directions for how to locate You tube's volume control because they
don't exist in accessible form. This is where Accessible YouTube can come in
useful. See the message I just posted. Admittedly, it's inconsistent, but
volume and mute controls are hard to find on the regular YouTube website.

I rarely use Accessible YouTube because, perhaps like you, I want website
designers to make their regular websites fully accessible. However, another
undeniable advantage of Accessible YouTube is that there are no commercials.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Jaws15 Pass through key?

2016-03-06 Thread David Moore

Hi Jorge,
Here is an example when the JAWS pass through key is used.

Re: [JAWS-Users] YouTube video volume

2016-03-06 Thread Adrian Spratt
Kevin,

Easy part first. While on the Accessible YouTube homepage, press e for edit and
you'll land right in the place to enter the information. Press enter. Then
press h three or four times to get down to the list of results. Each result is
also a header.

I've just been testing the methods I posted. I'm reminded that the function
Accessible YouTube makes fairly simple is finding the unmute button. It happens
that I was getting no sound out of YouTube today, and pressing spacebar on this
button fixed it for both this website and regular YouTube.

I realize that doesn't answer your volume question. I tried the alt-p command
and arrowing up from there, but today it didn't work. I simply couldn't find
any way of raising or lowering volume today. I don't know why access to this
control on either YouTube website is so intermittent. I can only report that
sometimes I find it, sometimes I don't.

It's true that different YouTube clips vary in volume, but sighted users have
access to controls to compensate. In my case, I use an external speech
synthesizer, so I can control my PC volume independently of JAWS. Without
consistently accessible YouTube player controls and an external synthesizer, I
imagine this is an annoyance.

Tim and Kevin,

On my system, not only does YouTube volume diminish, sometimes it even goes

the volume control on YouTube is tricky, but here are three methods that
work with IE11, though inconsistently.

I did try Chrome, but that
browser created such havoc on my system, as it does for a lot of people,
that I uninstalled it.

is what I do.

Hi,
I have found that I cannot control the volume of videos that much. I turn
the volume of the computer up loud, and when I start playing the video, I
turn the computer volume up or down.

Re: [JAWS-Users] YouTube video volume

2016-03-06 Thread David Moore

Hi,
There is no need to use accessible Youtube.

On my system, not only does YouTube volume diminish, sometimes it even goes

the volume control on YouTube is tricky, but here are three methods that
work with IE11, though inconsistently.

1. The easiest is to change the volume on Accessible YouTube, which seems to

Hi Don,
You didn't say what version of the Office suite you are using.
Is it the same on all 3 systems?
If it is a newer version on your Windows 10 system, you may need to install
the Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack
in order for it to open older documents.
This is only a guess on my part since I am not right up to speed on
Microsoft Office.

Hi list,

I received a 15 KB xlsx document as an attachment and I saved it.
Then, I tried to open it on my Windows 10 computer. JAWS kept reporting,
"Opening Excel," but the document never did come in. I pressed alt Tab and
got the following message:

"Microsoft Excel cannot open or save any more documents because there is not
enough available memory or disk space.
. To make more memory available, close workbooks or programs you no longer
need.
. To free disk space, delete files you no longer need from the disk you are
saving to." (end of quote)

By the way, I have plenty of available memory and plenty of available disk
space.

I can launch Excel and create a new xlsx document, then I can save
it, close it and open it again, but I tried opening some older Excel files
and they won't open either.

Finally, I tried opening the file on a Windows 7 machine and on a
Windows 8.1 machine and it opened with no problems on both computers.

Can anyone help?

does not make any different if I raze the volume.

Sometimes a command in an application will be the same as one for another
operation in JAWS, which will take precedence. To make the command work as
intended by the application, press pass-through insert-3 (on the number row)
and then the command.

Re: [JAWS-Users] YouTube video volume

2016-03-06 Thread Adrian Spratt
Tim and Kevin,

On my system, not only does YouTube volume diminish, sometimes it even goes
away completely. It often happens after an MS security update. getting at the
volume control on YouTube is tricky, but here are three methods that work with
IE11, though inconsistently.

1. The easiest is to change the volume on Accessible YouTube, which seems to
carry over to the volume on everyone's YouTube. Go to
http://www.povidi.com/yourtube/
Press alt-p for play, t hen up arrow to raise the volume in increments.

The other two methods might or might not work on the regular YouTube website:

2. To reach the player and volume controls, turn off the virtual cursor with
insert-z, then tab a couple of times . (Thanks to Mario and another lister for
this one.) In my case, I had to shift-tab twice. This method did not work the
last time I tried.

3. Again insert-z to turn off the virtual cursor, then tab down to "theater
mode." Then up arrow like crazy to raise the volume. (this method also didn't
work the last time I tried.)

I'm sorry that I can't give a definitive answer, but I can confirm that volume
is a real problem on YouTube and that player control accessibility is poor.
However, one of these methods ought to work. FYI, my system is Win7 64-bit, and
I've used these methods with JAWS 16 and 17, and probably also with 15. I can't
remember if I tried Firefox. I did try Chrome, but that browser created such
havoc on my system, as it does for a lot of people, that I uninstalled it.

It doesn't matter, particularly on your recovery sector. Since that is your

Even on your system disk and file partitions, when that percentage is so low,

When you obtain any version of JAWS according to my experience you are also
authorized for all previous versions. Somebody can correct me if I am wrong
of course.

Re: [JAWS-Users] email programs with windows 10 & jaws

2016-03-06 Thread David Ferrin
I am sorry that I don't have the chrome tutorial any longer. If you would
drop box it to me privately I will post it. The WLM recording was done by a
third party and as such I can't post it for various reasons.

Now if you did a recording yourself I could post it. Besides not to cast
aspersions I believe you could do a better job.

I noticed your message giving me permission to post your WLM guide, thank
you. I see it is not overly large so I can post it. I could also post your
chrome recording if you are all right with that as well.

2016-03-06 Thread Dave Carlson
Helga,

Hard to read your messages, but I can see that you asked if JAWS 16 could be
purchased. No. Once a new release is out, the previous is only available as
a download from the FS web download page. The very last revision of JAWS 16
will be there, just as there have been the latest of several major revisions
going back. If you have a license for JAWS 17, then you should be able to
download JAWS 16.

I would talk with FS support first before you try to install JAWS 16,
because there were some significant changes between 16 and 17 that might not
allow for a simple install or overwrite of the shared scripts or the mirror
display drivers.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Excel

2016-03-06 Thread Dave Carlson
Anna,

Haven't tried in many years, but I found that working in the actual
graphical screen was not intuitive. However I suggest that you see if the
context menu (shift+f10 or the App key) will bring up any ways to do this.

Other than that, I would expect that the only labels we can generate will be
row and column headers, and perhaps the sheet name in the workbook -- these
would be edited/modified in the underlying data sheet, and not on the actual
graphical page.
