Re: [JAWS-Users] Moving list
I in genral terms have found the Groups.IO mailing list experience to be a superior one than some of the other mailing lists. I.E. Google Groups, Mailman, etc. For one, the web interface is much easier to get around on than the other set ups and a handy and useful feature that Groups.io has is that you can easily mute a topic for those times when a thread is of no interest to me or if begins to devolve and meander. I did not exerpeince this most recent hiccup folks are talking about with bounce back and so on. -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List On Behalf Of Maria Campbell Sent: Thursday, July 19, 2018 2:00 PM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: [JAWS-Users] Moving list 700 back messages? Re: [JAWS-Users] Skype 8 for desktop answering incoming call?
SO anyway, to answer my own question since it seems no one had the answer. The actual command to answer an incoming call with Skype 8.x desktop is control plus shift plus P. This was listed in the link I provided as the command to start a call. Still though, it seems you have to be in the Skype window to execute any of these commands. Be it answer, hang up, mute, etc. This is a rather needless annoyance since before, the hotkeys were universal no matter where you may have been in the machine. It may seem like a minor thing, but I often work in different virtual desktops with lots of programs and windows open at the same time and having to scramble to get to the right window/desktop and then perform the action when before a simple alt plus pg up or pg down worked fine comes off as a pointless step backwards. -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List On Behalf Of Panagiotis Antonopoulos Sent: Tuesday, July 17, 2018 11:27 PM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] Skype 8 for desktop answering incoming call? Yes, but that's to refresh/reload the page entirely. With the insert+escape command, additional entries continuously show up as one zips down the same page with the h command. This worked perfectly especially when dealing with hundreds of rss entries. If I were to reload the page (f5), I would lose my place in the stream and be placed at the top of the page with the updated entries. [JAWS-Users] Google reader not loading additional entries
Hello list, So I know that Google reader will be giving up the ghost in a few months, but as of right now, I'm still using it heavily. I recently have encountered an issue with Reader and was wondering if other users have experienced this issue to or what I may do to fix it. Since I subscribe to a lot of rss feeds, I have the webpage to refresh automatically under the web settings for Jaws (latest version) and with page refresh command insert+escape, I can quickly have more feeds show up constantly instead of having to find and press the next button on the page. This is how I've been doing it for a very long while and it's always worked fine in both IE9 and Firefox. A week or so ago, I noticed that doing the insert+escape no longer loaded additional items in IE and as I would zip down the page with the h quick key for headings, I would be cycled back to the top. Even when I would click on the next button. This wasn't too big of an issue since I use Firefox as my default browser and only sometimes use IE. Starting yesterday though, I began to come across the same behavior of Reader only loading 20 or so messages and the insert+escape command having no impact with Firefox. The next button seems to work, but only to a point. If a particular feed or folder has a high number of entries, the next button will only work a few times and nothing will be loaded beyond forty or fifty entries. I don't recall changing any settings either on my system or to Jaws for anything like this to change so I'm at a loss as to what to do to be able to continuously load more rss entries. If anyone's experienced this problem too and if they've been able to figure out a solution, I'd sure love to hear it. For the time being, I've been zipping through my feeds through my iPhone and iPad. As convenient as that is however, there are times where I'd like to be able to do the same on my computer with Jaws. [JAWS-Users] New jaws 14 update and Firefox issue
Hello list, So last month I reported a bug to FS about Jaws jumping to link text instead of the headline of an rss entry when navigating via heading (h key) through an individual subscription feed or a search on Google reader while in the Firefox browser. I was responded to and provided an inquiry number and was told that it was being escalated to the technical department. And indeed with the new update on 02/04/13 this particular problem was thankfully fixed. However, Jaws now says clickable on nearly every element when on this page. I at first thought it was just an issue with that particular page (Google reader), but am noticing this clickable behavior on other pages too. I was curious to know if others have experienced this new issue with the latest JFW 14 update or if it may just be me. I'm coming across this new behavior when visiting certain ESPN pages and other random sites. It's not the end of the world per say, but it does add needless clutter to have to listen to. I did write FS about it and they got back to me saying that they'd look into it. Seeign as how the release was just issued though, I'm not expecting any sort of fix for a bit. Again, this is just with Firefox and has only appeared after updating jaws on Monday. For answers to frequently asked questions about this list visit: http://www.jaws-users.com/help/

I prefer Firefox over IE9 too, but there's really nothing with IE and in some instances, certain pages just work better in IE. There shouldn't be any problems downloading through IE either. [JAWS-Users] JFW 14 bug with setting table columns and rows in a Word document
Hello list, With the new JFW 14 release put out this week, I am thankfully not experiencing the other bugs talked about in other threads, but did come across something that I believe I'm only experiencing since the latest update and was wondering if anyone else can confirm it on their machine. With a Word document open (in my case 2010), I access the insert table option in the insert tab from the ribbon and in the options to select how many columns and then rows, Jaws no longer allows me to adjust these numbers wiht a simple arrow up or down to add or subtract them, but rather I now have to manually type them in. Of course not as problematic as other bugs that have manifested themselves, but still something that I don't recall being there even with earlier versions of JFW 14 beta included. Can anyone else in fact reproduce this issue and were they able to adjust the number of columns and rows with the arrow actions previously? [JAWS-Users] JFW 14 problem with overzealous forms mode
Hello list, Another issue I am having with JFW 14 is when on my Google reader page, even though I have autoforms mode turned off as default, I am hearing the autoforms mode popping notifications and am still encountering the forms mode behavior when going throughout the page. If I refresh the page, my cursor gets stuck on the page and only by pressing the pc cursor or pressing alt+tab to get out of the page and then goin back will I again be able to move around. The same goes for when I click on a link on an rss entry. I've checked and double checked to make sure that the forms mode is turned off, but I am still dealing with this. [JAWS-Users] JFW 14 problem with announcing "application control" after every link and entry
Hello list, So I just recently received my JFW SMA upgrade and only yesterday installed version 14 on my Win 7 Dell laptop 64 bit machine. The one problem I came across immediately and can't seem to figure out if it's something I maybe did or if it's a Jaws thing is when I go to my Google Reader page (my homepage) Jaws will announce "application control" before each one of the links at the top of the page. Search, Play, Drive, Maps, Calendar, etc. Jaws will also announce "application control after every single rss entry as I go down the page with the h key. The title entry for the particular update will be read then that same text. I have tried using different voices including the new Vocalizer voices and in both browsers (IE 9 and Firefox), but Jaws will always say "application control". I did not merge my settings with my previous JFW 13 since I prefer to not do so and have tried recreating the same settings as in the past and don't know if I may have perhaps enabled a certain behavior in Jaws to make it speak this text or if it's just a v 14 bug. The application control text only seems to be present on the Google reader page. I have tried visiting other Google pages and no problem there. Any ideas? Re: [JAWS-Users] setting up a google voice number with jaws
The mobile site is: www.google.com/voice/mobile Like I said, you can already do some settings adjustments on that site, but for things like creating groups, adding people to groups, creating custom voicemails and so on have to be done through the regular desktop version. www.voice.google.com The regular site isn't ideal, but really, it just takes some Jaws cursor usage and left button clicking and it's no biggy. I use my personal Google Voice number as my main phone number and use it as I would an email address with certain calls being filtered as would emails being sent to particular groups. Whether I wish to answer them or have the calls go straight to voice mail, etc. I have different personalised voicemail messages for family, friends and generic contacts such as utilities or credit cards or whoever I hand my number out to. Only family has my real cell phone number. Same goes for my various business gv telephone numbers. I can forward them to different numbers, again create personalised voicemails (be it for return customers, vendors, etc.). Get the transcript of the vm emailed to me or listen to the voice mail again with an email notification through my computer, iPhone or iPad. Making calls through the standard gmail configuration can be somewhat of a hassel, and I've found it to be pretty much impracticle through Firefox since Jaws is always announcing the call timer when on a call, but I more often than not make my calls through other means such as the call back feature for example and it is possible through IE. I haven't played with it using Chrome though. -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Michael Capelle Sent: Sunday, October 14, 2012 1:40 PM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] setting up a google voice number with jaws what is the mobile site for this, i have to disagree, the regular google.com/voice, is horrible, and i mean, horrible. - Original Message ----- From: "Cristobal" To: Sent: Sunday, October 14, 2012 3:38 PM Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] setting up a google voice number with jaws > The mobile google voice site is also very good to exicute a lot of > tasks and even adjust some settings, but the regular site works well > enough with jaws if you're not afraid of making use of the Jaws cursor > and whatnot a bit. The mobile google voice site is also very good to exicute a lot of tasks and even adjust some settings, but the regular site works well enough with jaws if you're not afraid of making use of the Jaws cursor and whatnot a bit. If you're using IE9, then you're probably dealing with split buttons. I access BookShare with IE9 all the time. Once you click on the download button for a particular book, you have to press the alt+n command to bring up the various buttons for open, save, cancel. When you're on either the open or save split buttons, you can arrow down to the action you would prefer. Re: [JAWS-Users] Jaws 14 and touch screen devices
This is going to be one of FS's challenges going forward. Windows dropped the ball on not making their mobile platform accessible and with the trend of touch screen devices, other accessible solutions are way ahead. I'd like to see Windows based devices be it phones or tablets have accessibility, with what would the additional cost entail? Whose going to shell out an extra chunk of change for accessibility when the i-devices have it incorperated at no extra charge? Even Code Factory's Mobile Accessibility for Android isn't "esential" to having a decent Android tablet experience. One can only assume too that going forward, accessibility will just get better on these platforms. I'm sure FS has thought of all this and it would only make sense that they're coming up with ways to adapt and try to tap into this market. If they're able to somehow bridge an accessible tablet experience with real substantive accessibility for Microsoft's Office programs and other nuts and bolts type of stufffor people who would like to use these devices for work and not just recreational use, then maybe something like that could gain real traction. It's all speculation anyway until Windows based tablets start hitting the markets and we see what if any accessibility is included. -Original Message- From: jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Norman King Sent: Thursday, September 06, 2012 7:05 AM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] Jaws 14 and touch screen devices Hi. [JAWS-Users] Openning pdf links from Google search results
Hello list, So I was wondering if anyone could lend me a hand. I'm trying to access some Google search results that are mainly pdf files but when I click on them, Jaws either goes all wacky and sometimes crashes or the page simply doesn't load. I've also tried clicking on the quick view link option provided as well and no luck there either. Right clicking and selecting the save as option doesn't help since all it is is a url and openning in another tab or window doesn't bring anything up either. I do know that being able to view a pdf will depend on the quality of the pdf and whether it's just an image of text or text itself and so on, but assuming that at least one result has got to be more or less ledgible text, how can I go about either getting Jaws to read it or to be able to download the file first? All this is in IE9. I may even give it a try in Firefox and play with some add-ons, but would like to know if it's possible to do this with IE or without having to use some other third party add-on with Mozilla first. I'm using the latest JFW 13 too. Thanks, For answers to frequently asked questions about this list visit: http://www.jaws-users.com/help/

In most cases, the letter J is a first letter navigation to the Eject option. Note: If you hear a warning bell, this is one of those units which have their own disconnect feature. In that case, look for the drive in the system tray, tab over to some of the options until you find something like Shut Down or the equivalent. Just press Enter on that option and the system will do what is necessary to prepare the unit for removal. If all else fails, shut down your computer and then remove the drive. The device should then pair with the Brailliant and an incoming Bluetooth virtual serial port will be set up on the PC. You should now check the Properties of the Brailliant connection in your Bluetooth Manager to find out which COM port number has been assigned to the incoming Bluetooth serial port. Make a note of this number. On the PC, in your screen reader, set the active braille display COM port to use as the relevant Bluetooth serial port COM number. If using JAWS, you will need to quit and restart it. So, my computer recognizes the display right away and when I click the next button, instead of being prompted for the paring code "" the dialog says that the driver is being installed and then that it was installed successfully and all I get is a close button. After that, the display shows up in my bluetooth device list fine and dandy. I tried setting the com port in Jaws and restarting JFW, but no go. The display is still in the Humanware menu. I tried with both the output port and input port and no dice. Yes, I have been turning Jaws off and on as instructed too. Delving into the properties section of the device, it says that it is working properly. I don't find anywhere where I could enter the paring code either. That being the only step that I didn't come across when following the Humanware instructions. But like I said, the computer announced that it was installed fine and didn't give me any opportunity to enter this paring code. I've restarted the display and switched between auto and bluetooth and have removed the device from the bluetooh devices on the computer and tried parig it again, but still, no luck. I didn't get the prompt for the paring code on the second try either. Does anyone have any ideas of what may be the issue or if they've come across this particular scenario? As I mentioned, using the display with Jaws isn't the issue since working with the usb cable gives me no troubles nor is there a problem when paring with my i-devices via bluetooth. Just when trying to use the display via bluetooth on the computer. If it matters, I am using the latest JFW 13. Re: [JAWS-Users] Jaws 13.852.
This reminds me of all the issues I had with the various JFW 12 releases. I went back to jaws 11 until 13 came out and thankfully I haven't had any issues close to this including with this latest update. -Original Message- From: jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of jim rawls Sent: Saturday, April 28, 2012 8:45 PM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: [JAWS-Users] Jaws 13.852. Ever since I downloaded jaws latest update, my computer has been extremely slow, and I keep having trouble with jaws staying focused. Also, I have had trouble in windows outlook, because, I can't back space, when I want to fix an error in an email, until I take out jaws and bring it back again. I finally dumped this latest update, and went back to the update before this one. Now, my computer works like it should, and I can back space in outlook 2007 to correct errors if I need too. I think they should have not released this latest update until it worked better. IMO anyway. Smile. [JAWS-Users] Google Drive
So, it looks like the long rumored Google Drive is for real. Google even specifically mentions that screen reader users will be able to use it. I havent' had a chance to play with it, but I'm going to guess that they're only refering to the storage aspects and not the Google Docs part that have so far been a screen reading disaster. Has anyone been able to try it out yet? They even talk about OCR recognition. Considering that it offers way more free storage than Dropbox, I think I may give it a shot especially once they put out their IOS app. Below is the Google Blog update. I came across it via Lifehacker. http://googleblog.blogspot.com/2012/04/introducing-google-drive-yes-really.h tml#!/2012/04/introducing-google-drive-yes-really.html For answers to frequently asked questions about this list visit: http://www.jaws-users.com/help/
