This information is available in the jaws HELP. There, Type ALT-S to
open the Search window, and then type in what you want to find.

Left Mouse Button Lock (INSERT+NUM PAD SLASH)
This command simulates pressing down the left mouse button and holding
it. Once pressed, the JAWS cursor can be moved with the arrow keys. JAWS
will not speak until INSERT+NUM PAD SLASH is pressed again to unlock the
left mouse button. This command can be used to drag items from one
location and drop them in another.

That's one of 13 results found (in JAWS11). However, dragging and
dropping may not be the easiest way to accomplish what you want to
perform. Copy and then paste elsewhere may work out easier.

Use a program like Goldwave which is shareware for your recording.

Take a regular miniphone patch chord from your headphone jack of your
cassette recorder to the auxilliary line input on your PC soundcard. Go
into Goldwave, use the f11 key to go to the volume tab, go to the line input
checkbox select that and set your level.

To set a new hotkey for this JAWS Script, SayClipboard, follow these
 steps:

1.Press the JAWSKey (Insert on the desktop keyboard layout and CapsLock
on a laoptop layout) + F2. Select Keyvoard Manager in the list and
 press Enter.

 2. Press Control + Shift + D, to open the default settings.

 3. Press Tab to get to the list of default hotkeys.

 4. Either navigate through the list to the name of the JAWS Scripts that
you would like to define or press Control + F to searchh for the script
that currently uses the difficult hotkey.

 4. Manage to press the needed hotkey once and press Enter.

 5. This will place you on the current script's hotkey assignment. To
leave this hotkey alone and add a second hotkey to perform the same
 function, press Control + A.

 6. Press your well thought out alternative for this script and press
 Enter.

 7. You will be asked to confirm if you want to add this hotkey to the
default settings. Press Enter to confirm.

 8. Close the Keyboard Manager with Alt + F4.

Well, there is an easier way to read the clipboard. Just download a free
self-voicing app called Speak Clipboard which will speak the contents of
your clipboard in a SAPI 5 voice (usually Daniel) at the touch of a
keystroke. You can create a desktop icon for Speak Clipboard and then
assign a shortcut key of your choosing to launch it.

You have to remove IE 8 from Add/Remove Programs on the Control Panel to
roll back to IE 7. Performing a System Restore without first removeing IE 8

will not work. You should restore your computer to the state it was in
after IE 8 was installed, and then remove it using Add/Remove Programs. IE
8 will be listed under Windows Internet Explorer. You cannot have two
versions of IE installed at the same time, which is probably why you could
not install IE 7 from aflash drive. There are third-party suites that
contain all versions of IE, but my experience is that they don't work and
may really screw up your computer. I am using IE 8 with JAWS 9 and XP Pro
and have had no problems. Good luck.

Dear Sherri,
I have been using AVG now for about 3 years, and I have had absolutely no
problems with it!

I find it is very JAWS friendly, and updates it's definitions several times
a day!

I surely would not recommend that Avast program, as I have heard so many
people having serious problems uninstalling it!
I have used in the past Norton, McFee, and a couple of others, and in my
mind AVG beats them all hands down!

I purchased a AVG program at Office Max, for $39, and after installing it,
was pleasantly surprised that the license and update of the definitions is
good for two (2) years!
A much better deal than one could get on their web site!

 Dear Sherri,
I have been using AVG now for about 3 years, and I have had absolutely no
 problems with it!

I find it is very JAWS friendly, and updates it's definitions several
 times
 a day!

I surely would not recommend that Avast program, as I have heard so
 many
people having serious problems uninstalling it!
I have used in the past Norton, McFee, and a couple of others, and in my
mind AVG beats them all hands down!

I purchased a AVG program at Office Max, for $39, and after installing
 it,
was pleasantly surprised that the license and update of the definitions
 is
 good for two (2) years!
A much better deal than one could get on their web site!

Hi Kathy,

My favorite web site for downloading free music is SSMunch. It is a music
search engine that lets you search for songs by artist or title. You can
listen to, or download the ones you like in MP3 format. I have created a
number of folders containing dozens of songs that I have downloaded from
this site which I subsequently burned to CD. And it is very JAWS
accessible. Check it out:

Yes you need to choose stand alone computer instead of blocked in the
firewall settings.
Now unless I am going about this in the wrong way to get to the firewall
settings after the list in the components which is the easy part, but I then
have to use the jaws cursor toleft click on the line that reads, statics
firewall to get it to open so I can then press Alt T and from there I get
another list to arrow to firewall...I enter on that and this is where
additional settings for the firewall is.

 Hi,

In OE 2003 if you have the message open that you are composing or
responding to you can either press F7 or use the menus and go to tools and

clearer. Routing JAWS to PC involves the keystroke Numpadinsert key

the mouse or JAWS' use of it - is brought to the

Can someone give me the quick and dirty about how to burn an audio CD with
 Win XP?

When using the CD burning wizard, if you select create an audio CD, the
wizard dumps you into media player. Your files are there and ready to go.
But, how do you start the process? In older versions of Media Player,
there was a button near the bottom of the screen labeled Start Burn.
You had to find it with the JAWS curser and press it, but once you did,
the CD burning started. That button does not seem to exist in version 11,
or at least I can't find it. Is there a keyboard shortcut to start the
 process?

Hello Don,

One thing you might check is that full mode is on. If skin mode is active
then the burn button and burn menu isn't shown. Use CTRL 1 to make sure
that full mode is on. If full mode is on then use the tab key to see if you
can move to a folder tree that shows library and playlists. If so, keep
using the tab key to see if you can find the burn button and burn menu
choices.

Take care.

Re: [JAWS-Users] CD burning With Media Player 11

2008-10-11 Thread Don Lorah
Hi Brian,
Tried all you suggested, found nothing, the full mode choice was never
found. I also tried to burn with the file menu: add to Windows ... still
no burn.
I previously burned 7 cd's with the wizard, but, now, that does not burn.
While using the wizzard, I opened the rw drive, pasted in the music files
and tabbed to: select audio or beta burn. Windows media would pop up and I
would go through the tabs to: start burn. Sonehow, this method disappeared
and now I can only burn beta discs with this procedure. Thanks for your
concern, regards, Don

Hello Don,

The CTRL 1 keystroke is just a shortcut for using full mode. The full mode
choice is found in the file menu. Use Alt-F and see if it brings up the
file menu. If the file menu is presented then press enter on the full
mode choice. If a menu doesn't pop up then use the JAWS cursor to check
the top of the window to see if there is a menu bar, and if so then use a
left mouse button click simulation on the file menu choice. It is the full
mode choice and not the full page choice.

If the above steps don't work then try to burn a CD starting outside of
Windows Mediaplayer. Browse to a folder in Windows Explorer and select the
files you want to burn. Make sure they are all audio files that Windows
Mediaplayer can burn. When the files are selected press the application key
and use down arrow key to the add to Windows Mediaplayer list and press
enter. When the music starts playing in Windows Mediaplayer press CTRL P to
pause the player. Use tab key to see if there is a burn button and menu at
that point.

You might also go into the help menu and check for updates to Windows
Mediaplayer.

Take care.

 Hello Don,

One thing you might check is that full mode is on. If skin mode is
 active
then the burn button and burn menu isn't shown. Use CTRL 1 to make sure
that full mode is on. If full mode is on then use the tab key to see if
 you
can move to a folder tree that shows library and playlists. If so,
 keep
using the tab key to see if you can find the burn button and burn menu
 choices.

 Take care.

 Hi David,
Read your tutorialand tried to burn a cd, there seems to be no burn tab
accessible in Windows 11. It can be seen with the Jaws cursor, but no
action can be taken. I burned 7 audio discs with the wizzard after which,
the tab choice of: burn an audio or beta is no longer available in the
wizard; pressing the next space bar immediately burns a beta cd. Any
 help
will be appreciated, and thank you for your instructive tutorials, Don

Can someone give me the quick and dirty about how to burn an audio CD
 with
 Win XP?

When using the CD burning wizard, if you select create an audio CD, the
wizard dumps you into media player. Your files are there and ready to
 go.
But, how do you start the process? In older versions of Media Player,
there was a button near the bottom of the screen labeled Start Burn.
You had to find it with the JAWS curser and press it, but once you did,
the CD burning started. That button does not seem to exist in version
 11,
or at least I can't find it. Is there a keyboard shortcut to start the
 process?

Using Windows media, 11 I burned 6 audio cd's; after this, the tab: select
an audio cd, or a beta cd; does not come up and pressing the next with the
space bar immediately burns a beta cd. How can I restore the tab selection

First, make sure your printer is being recognized. Hit control P and tab
through the various options until you come to the one that should announce
what printer you have. If that printer is not listed, there is your
 problem
perhaps; the computer is not recognizing your printer.

Also, make sure all cabling is tight and that the cabling is in the
 correct
 place.

You might also try turning off your computer and printer. Then start your
computer; after that is started then turn on your printer.

8) Gene Asner produced an elaborate, high quality tutorial on accessing the
web entitled Surfing with Style. He is decided to make this tutorial freely
available. He'll provide no tech support on it, and no future upgrades will
be made to it, that it will remain usable for a long time to come. Here's
the
download link:

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Free internet tutorial for download.

After long and careful consideration, I have made my Internet tutorial
available as a free download. No support will be given and no further
upgrades will be made. If people want to work with me for a fee, contact
 me
and we'll discuss it. My prices are more than reasonable.

I have made the tutorial available as a free download for two reasons:
First, there was not enough interest to justify me doing more work on it
 to
keep it current. It is still very relevant and will remain so for a long
time but if I were still charging for it, I would have added new
information, such as information about Webvisum and some basic information
 about using firefox.

The second reason the tutorial is now free is because I deeply believe
 that
Internet access is vital to the blind community and the skills needed to
 use
the Internet are not well known nor are they often well taught. I don't
want the more than one-hundred hours I put into the tutorial to go to
 waste
and I want to do something about the state of poor Internet use found
 among
 most blind Internet users.

Unfortunately, the blind community gets, or doesn't get, what it supports
 or
doesn't support. Since there was not anywhere near enough sustained
interest in the tutorial as an item to be purchased, I am unlikely to
produce more tutorials in the future. I would advise those in the blind
Internet community to consider that much valuable material may be lost,
 not
just from me, but from many others who might provide it because of lack of
support for such work. A high quality tutorial of this type is generally
not going to be produced for free. It requires far too much work and
 time.

Here are two download links. File sharing sites often have temporary
problems. If one doesn't work, try the other.
 http://www.divshare.com/download/5046375-ece
 http://www.filesend.net/download.php?f=b2fbfd6ebe599f5a9308c4d55084f2c4

The Filesend link may be the easiest and more reliable of the two. Try
 that
link first. Look for the button near the bottom of the page to start the
download. It may say download button or just the word button. It may
 have
some code along with the word button but it's the only button near the
 bottom of the page.

It is very important to read the first two sections of the readme file
 before using the tutorial.

 Gene!

As long as they're not protected WMA files, or if you have the right license
from wherever you downloaded/purchased the files, Winamp's Transcoder will
convert them to MP3...However, I think you might have to have Winamp Pro,
which will also rip and burn, for $19.95.

I sent this to David earlier and he said it was okay to ask the group for
your opinions.

Hey David,
I am wondering about any programs that convert wma files to m p 3. My trial
period of switch has expired and I am considering purchasing it. Any
advice?
Also considering of bundling that program with the express ones, I really
like them also. Wasn't sure about posting this to the list. If you think
it would be okay to post, let me know.
thanks,
Carla

Hi all. As I am sure all of you know I had E Mail problems. They are now
fix. The question I have is in my E Mail settings in AVG I have the check in
coming E Mails box checked and the check out going E Mails box checked. Be
for when I had these un checked I was getting a message saying that my E
Mail was not fully functional when using AVG The problem I have is now that
both of these are checked jaws says attachment after every single message
when there is not a attachment. When be for I had them both un checked I
didn't have this problem. Can I still have these checked but change
something elts so that Jaws doesn't say attachment after every message? or
is this just a thing that I will have to live with wile having AVG Scanning
my in coming and out going E Mail messages? I did check the jaws users sight
under tips and tricks and it said to solve this I could un check the boxes
that I have checked right now but in doing that I would compromise my E Mail
and not be protected agenst
all the threats. Is there any way around this? Many Thanks. from Mich

Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] Why is Jaws saying collapsed in Outlook Express

 Hi Lisa,
It is saying that because it is set to collapse the messages that there
 are more than
one of, with the same subject line. I have been meaning to ask someone
 how
 to get my
Windows Mail to do that on a new computer with Vista. So if anyone can
 help Lisa
figure out how to make her OE stop saying collapse not collapse her
 messages of the
same subject, can you please tell me how to set my email up to expand
 collapse
 messages?

Now how come I feel like I just said a bunch of nonsense. LOL

 Thanks,
 Rhonda

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Why is Jaws saying collapsed in Outlook Express

 Hello everyone,
When I'm in my Outlook Express inbox arrowing through some of my unread
 messages jaws
will say collapsed on some of them. It doesn't say this on all of them
 just a few of
them. How can I get jaws to stop saying collapsed? I went to the jaws
 users web
site, and I looked on the tips and tricks page and I looked through the
 Outlook
Express stuff, but I didn't see anything pertaining to this particular
 problem. Your
help fixing this problem will be most appreciated!
 Take care,
 Lisa

Hi Cathy,

Below is a brief step-by-step instructional tutorial on how to use the
Goldwave batch conversion utility for converting multiple files into the
same format.

I initially wrote this for someone else, but the steps are the same no
matter what version of Goldwave you use.

***original Message***

If you are in the Gold Wave main window, once it opens up, if you press the
alt+F to get to the file menu, then press the letter B for batch
conversions, it will open up another dialog box that you can do batch
conversions with, or you can choose to do just one file, it's up to you.

Once in that dialog box, tab to the button that says add, and press the
space bar.

Another dialog box will pop up, similar to the save as dialog box, so if you
know exactly where the file is, go ahead and type it in. If you don't know
the exact file location, just do a shift+tab to the window just above the
one you're in, and backspace four or five times, or until your screen reader
reads out my documents.

Once it says that, just go ahead and find the folder where the files are
that you want to convert.

Once you find the files, go ahead and select them, either, contiguously, or
non-contiguously, and tab to the open button and press the spacebar.

Once you press the open button, you'll land back on the add button. If you
have more files you want to convert, just press the add button and go
through what I just outlined above.

If you don't have anymore files to convert, you can tab to the check box
that says, convert files to this format. Make sure this box is checked, so
you can tell it what to convert the files to.

Once you check that box, tab down to the combo box that asks you what file
type to convert the files to. You must want to select the exact file type
for all the files you want to convert. You can't do one file type for some
of the files and another file type for another bunch of files you selected.
That's why this function is called the batch conversion feature of Gold
Wave. You can only convert the files to the same file type.

Once you select the file format you want to convert the files to, tab down
to the bitrate and frequency selection.
I'm going to assume, for time's sake, that you already know all about
bitrate and frequency rates, and just continue on from here to the next
step.

Once you set the bitrate and frequency rates, do a control+tab over to the
file locations tab to set where you would like Gold Wave to save the
converted files once their done.

You have two choices here.

You can either choose to save the converted files in their original folders,
or save them in a different folder. This I leave up to you, and I can tell
you that this tab is pretty much self-explanatory, so go ahead and make your
settings as you see fit.

Once you've made your selection, just tab over to the button that says
begin, and press the spacebar.

Once a dialog box pops up, with an ok button, you're files are done
converting, and you can just press the ok button.

You'll land back on the begin button, so just tab over to the cancel button,
then you'll land on the Gold Wave main window. You can just alt+F4 out of
that, and you can go delete the pre-converted files.

Just make sure you clear your recycle bin, as those files will use up a lot
of space on your computer.

I would also recommend you check the files for length and bitrate choice, as
you can always go back into your recycle bin and restore the files you
deleted, so I suggest you check the files before you empty the recycle bin.

If you have any other questions, feel free to ask, and I'll endeavour to
answer them as quickly as possible.

Victor

 Hi Don John R. here

there could be a few things here wrong.
first. question. does the windows start menu come up when you hit the
windows key, located bottom row left wide, second in from the right, and
 the
bottom row on the right side, third in from the right, please note I mean
when I say in from, I mean from the left control key and the right control
 key only.
if no menu comes up then check that your keyboard is plubbed in at the
 back
by following your computer keyboard wire and see if it is plugged in or
 not
if not then find where the mouse plugged in and plug it in next to there
 if
it is a plug like the mouse plug case feels.

if you get a reply when hitting the windows key then it is a a problem
setting with Jaws but as siobhan said previously in a last message she
 will
gladly walk you through how to sort Jaws out she's probably better at
explaining then me. I've used jaws too long and sometimes can be too long
winded or too technical when offering help about it.

yes keyboards can die as it is known but normally this is if it is under
constant use or is uncared for or the power line box in the keyboard has
died then you would need to buy a new one you could have it mended but I
think it would be cheeper to buy a new one

 I hope this helps

Hi Don,
Go to the control panel, and then accessibility options.
When that dialogue opens, the first thing you will hear is sticky keys.
To get more info, hit the F1 key.
After you have heard that information, press the escape key to close that
message.
Next, tab until you come to the settings button for sticky keys settings and
spacebar it.
When that dialogue opens you can repeat the same process as above, and tab
thru the options.
As with any other dialogue in Windows,
you can make changes and apply them, or cancel out of it.

You can also turn Sticky Keys on by pressing the Left Shift key 5 times.
A dialog box will come up and you can click ok to turn it on, cancel to
close the dialog box, or click settings to disable the shift 5 times.

Hi Don,
Go to the control panel, and then accessibility options.
HTH,
Richard Justice
