I'm really confused. This is the second time this has happened to me since I
got my new computer last December. I keep up to date on paying for jaws and
Magic upgrades although I don't always choose to update the programs.
Example: I've received CD's for upgrading Jaws and magic in the past few
days but have decided not to do so at present. This morning, both Jaws and
Magic informed me that I was using temporary versions of the programs and
had to re-authorize them or they would run out within a short time. Luckily,
each provided the authorization number and I could easily re-authorize them
without difficulty. If I'd had a problem, I'd have had to wait until
tomorrow when FS is open. I'm wondering if this happens to other people and
if anyone can explain why it happens. It's really inconvenient, particularly
for someone like me whose technical capabilities are so limited. Is it some
kind of FS policy or just a gliche?

I never like using shortcut keys - they can conflict with so many other

JAWS13, or JAWS14

 Hi all

After I have upgraded my JAWS from version 13 to 14, I have been
 observing this problem.

When I unload JAWS 14 with Insert+F4, then use the keystrokes of
Ctrl+Alt+J to turn back JAWS, time after time, JAWS 13 is turned on
 instead.

The only way to get JAWS 14 is to select the JAWS 14 icon on the Desktop.

The shortcut keys to turn on JAWS 13 are Ctrl+Alt+0 and for 14
Ctrl+Alt+J. I have checked them over and over again to make sure there
 are no conflicts.

It's nothing major but something I thought I will ask if anyone knows
 what's wrong.

 Thank you for any explanation.

 Best Regards
 Siew Ling

Dan and others,

I appreciate everyone's suggestions etc. This is some new glitch Dan
has stumbled on and sounds very complicated.

More info on my particular situation and it is not good in my opinion.
I had Terrie sit down with me to look at this site again. The way I
think the page is laid out the way JAWS reads it is way off. After I
log in to my CU site I arrow down and JAWS says there is a list of 6
items. If I continue arrowing down it says bullet then announces the
link name. It does this for each of the 6 items. I am thinking this is
a vertical list with each link preceded by a bullet. JAWS also says
mouse over which always bothers me as I know it gets more complicated.
Anyway, Terrie describes something totally different. She says these
six elements resemble more of a ribbon type setup. It is in fact a
horizontal line across the top of the screen. She says there are no
bullets and they do not appear has hyperlinks. What confuses me is if
I bring up the links list with JAWS key and F7 they are listed and if
I tab to go to link it will take me right to it. Anyway, getting back
to what they look like as she takes the mouse and hovers over each of
the six elements a drop down type box appears with subsequent choices
for each item. It is this choices that need to be clicked on with the
mouse. None of these choices are available or visible until you hover
the mouse over them. Seems I remember something a long time ago about
a JAWS command to go to another place when JAWS announces mouse over.
Anyway if I route JAWS to PC cursor and then arrow down I occasionally
can hear a couple of the choices and if lucky using the num pad key
command for mouse activation I can get to another screen but not with
any type consistency So, with this additional info any suggestions? I
don't even know where to begin with this problem with the Credit Union
I T department and/or Freedom Scientific

Thanks for listening as this is very frustrating

less

This is definitely not Al's problem as he said that when his wife

Al,

Try moving to the link concerned, where JAWS says Mouseover. Hold down
CTRL and JAWS Key and press the Enter key. You should hear JAWS say
Change at line XX, where XX is a number. Now, using Quick Navigation,
press the letter J. JAWS will say Jump to line. Type in the number, from
XX above and press Enter again. A list of items should now appear and you
can arrow up or down, to select the one you need. The CTRL + JAWS Key
+
Enter simulates hovering over the item with the mouse.

My bank employed a similar type of thing for customers, logging into
Internet Banking.

I hope that the above is clear and is of use to you.

Thank you for the suggestions. When I press Jaws+F7, no links show and Jaws

outcome. For sure, the function of Jaws+F5 changed in Jaws 14 within
Outlook 2010. That useful keystroke works just fine in Jaws 13, but does
not work in the latest Jaws version.

Someone suggested that I get state government to do something about RTF
messages. I appreciate that our choices are to change our own skills and
technologies or to change our environments. Before insisting that the world
change for me, I'd like to restore the functionality earlier Jaws versions
provided. With the two workarounds provided on this listserv, I don't think
I have to go to the extreme of asking everyone to refrain from using RTF
formats in Outlook.

Best!

Hi

I assume you have tried bringing up the links list with JAWSkey+f7 or
opening the message in your browser with shift+JAWSkey+w and trying the
links list to see if the attachment appears. I don't know if viewing the
message in your browser will work for RTF messages. If these don't work, I
would open a problem with Freedom Scientific.

Yes, Outlook 2010 attachments in an RTF message are imbedded in the e-mail.
I think RTF messages always imbed attachments in the body of an e-mail in
Outlook. Outlook messages in HTML or Plain Text formats display the
attachments in the message header. I sometimes had luck with the method
described below for Jaws 13, but not for Jaws 14. It was hit and miss for
me in Jaws 13 and earlier versions because the link is difficult or
impossible to locate in some messages. With Jaws 14, I cannot see the
imbedded link at all in an RTF message.

If you have the links list up, then when you get to the link, tab over and
listen for the option move to link. Hit enter. Then, rout jaws to the
virtual cursor, and double click with the left mouse button. If you
encounter the link whithout the links list, in other words, through using
the arrows and tab keys, then routt jaws to virtual cursor, and hit enter.
In order to rout jaws to the virtual cursor, press insert minus on the
numpad. The Minus is also refered to as jaws cursor, and it is located on
the top right of the numpad.

Hope someone can give me some suggestions and quick. My credit union just
redid their website. Until now the site has been fully accessible with JAWS.
Not sure what they did but some links on the site now work and some don't
with JAWS. If JAWS says link I have always just hit enter to access it and
go their. Several links on that site now do not work that way. I know the
link is active as my wife can click on it with the mouse and it is fine.
What I don't understand is why JAWS works well with some links on that page
and simply ignores others. I have tried using the links list and simply
arrowing down the page and clicking on them. I tried the JAWS key and z to
no avail. Any other suggestions how I can get jaws to activate those links.

Thanks

would read the number of items in the folder, and the number of unread

when I press insert and numpad three there is silence. Has anyone got the
quick fix to re-enable the reading of status info?

Many thanks,

which can check for and install updates without any problem.

I downloaded JAWS 14 64 bit using another machine and installed it on my
Windows 8 machine. It said there was a problem with the internet connection
and some components were not installed. I have removed and reinstalled JAWS
several times with the same error. The internet connection is fine. When I
try to update authorization it says there is a problem with the internet
connection. If I do a check for updates on the help menu it says there is a
problem with the internet connection.

The internet connection is working with no problems. Only JAWS can't find
it. I don't think it's trying to use the connection because it comes back
instantly and says there is a problem with the connection.

I have successfully installed JAWS 14 on a Windows 7 laptop using the USB
modem and the Verizon software. (VZAccess Manager.)

Not sure what to check or why JAWS doesn't recognize the connection.

Any suggestions? Thanks!

In Outlook 2010 I do the following to get to attachments. While in the
message body, Press control+home to move to the top of the message.
Press
shift+tab to move to the previous field. It should say message. Then
you
can right arrow through the attachments. To open or save an attachment,
press the applications key and choose open or save as from the context menu.
I have not used these in a RTF message, but since they are Outlook rather
than JAWS keystrokes, I think they should work there also.

With Jaws 14 in Outlook 2010 Rich Text messages, how does one access an
attachment? The Jaws 13 keystroke of Jaws+F5 does not work, and when I try
to save attachments, Jaws does not see the attachment. Put another way,
what Jaws 14 keystroke is used to list attachments in an Outlook 2010

work well, but I often get RTF formatted messages with attachments.
Thanks

An inelegant solution is to alt/tab to the first window you want and
allfocus to fall on that window. Then alt/tab to the other window you want
to toggle between without focusing on the interim windows. Allow focus to
fall on the second window.. This essentially creates this pairing as the
last two windows you opened and will be the first two to come up when
alt/tab-ing. You have to focus on the window in order to not continue in
the chain of open windows.

Hi

Switching between windows with the alt+tab keys is a Windows function and
does not involve JAWS. I believe that when you press those keys, you go
back through the windows starting with the most recently opened to the first
window in the chain that was opened. If you want to go to a specific
window, try JAWSkey+f10 which will open the JAWS window list dialog which
will show a list of all open windows. Arrow to the window you want and
press enter.

 Hi Jerry,

Another option would be to try the Hadley site using Firefox instead of
 IE.
I swithchbetween those 2 because they behave differently with Jaws on some
sites. For instance, Jaws doesn't see the submit button or link for paying
my phone bill when I'm on the site with IE, but FF has no problem with it.
I'm using Jaws 13 Vista, but I've switched between IE FF for several
 versions of Jaws now.

 Good luck,

Re: [JAWS-Users] sound recorder and jaws

vested interest in this as well.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] sound recorder and jaws

Hi list

When it comes to recording with a headphone microphone I am a beginner.

I am practicing recording myself with the sound recorder.

I successfully recorded from a Minnie cassette recorder to my line in on my
computer.

The recording of a thunderstorm came out very well.

But as far as recording my voice over the microphone at first it came out very
low.

I went to the properties of the microphone headphone and changed it to studio
quality.

I went to the level tab and made sure the volume was at 100 percent.

I changed the boost from 0 to 66 percent.

Now the volume is a lot louder, but there is too much hiss.

So to make this request short, I have two questions.

1. How do I get the maximum volume out of my microphone without all the hiss.

2. If I want to record computer lessons using Jaws in the recording, how do I
include my voice and jaws together on the same recording.

I hope you understand what I am asking.

I am using the latest Jaws 13 on a windows 7, 32 bit system.

I have two sets of speakers on my computer.

Jaws is coming out of the desktop sound card, everything else is coming through
my USB Bose speaker system.

Any help would be appreciated.

I like to learn new things, it is very exciting.

Thanks in advance for all your help…

Just recently I have been unable to click on links in e-mail and be directed
to the site, I am careful about this, however, recently Outlook 2010 has
given me a restriction message saying to contact my network administrator
which is me to change the behavior. I have been through all the settings
that I can think of in Outlook 2010 and IE 9 as well as control panel and
seems I cannot find a way to make me be able to follow links in e-mail.
Annoyed with having to copy and paste them every time and it seems that
either way could be bad if I were not a careful person.

What could I be missing and why did this behavior change over the last month
or so, before it happened I had not been messing around with settings in
months.

Hi all,
I'm learning the ropes for word 2010 and have learned word now has multiple
documents in the same instance of word instead of opening up an instance of
word for each word document you open. This is how it was back in word 97. I
like the idea, except I can't find the key combination that will switch you
from one document to the other without using the mouse to do it.
Any ideas on this hot key?

Thanks,
Jason
