[JAWS-Users] Adding contacts to Gmail website

2013-07-21 Thread Tan Siew Ling
Hi all

I was looking through my Contacts on Gmail this few days.

I can edit a contact, delete a contact, however, I don't seem to be
able to add a new contact.

When I switched to Standard, the Contacts link is nowhere to be found.

Is there a way to add the contacts without having to manually send
them an email so Gmail will automatically store them?

I am using JAWS 14 with Internet Explorer 8.

Thank you for any help.

Best Regards
Siew Ling

 Subject: [JAWS-Users] Unloading JAWS

 Hi all

After I have upgraded my JAWS from version 13 to 14, I have been
 observing this problem.

When I unload JAWS 14 with Insert+F4, then use the keystrokes of
Ctrl+Alt+J to turn back JAWS, time after time, JAWS 13 is turned on
 instead.

The only way to get JAWS 14 is to select the JAWS 14 icon on the
 Desktop.

The shortcut keys to turn on JAWS 13 are Ctrl+Alt+0 and for 14
Ctrl+Alt+J. I have checked them over and over again to make sure there
 are no conflicts.

It's nothing major but something I thought I will ask if anyone knows
 what's wrong.

 Thank you for any explanation.

 Best Regards
 Siew Ling

[JAWS-Users] JAWS stopped announcing online status for Skype

2012-08-02 Thread Tan Siew Ling
Hi

When someone comes online to Skype, not only do I hear a tone, JAWS
will also read the name of the person who has just came online.

However, for the past few days, I only hear the tone but JAWS did not
announce the names.

Could it be because that I have updated to JAWS 13.0.1005? Or do you
know what settings for JAWS I need to make?

I'm using a Windows 7 64-BIT laptop running the latest version of Skype 5.

Thank you for any help.

It only says Manage, no Link Manage, Mouse Over Manage, Graphic
Manage, Manage Button all those.

Another question. Whenever I do a Ctrl-Insert-Enter for a mouse over,
JAWS say something like Element's attribute has changed. How do I
know where is the change ? Is there a keystroke for that too ?

[JAWS-Users] Keystrokes to read colour of background

2011-06-16 Thread Tan Siew Ling
Hi

I know JAWS key+F gives Font Size and style. JAWS key+5 gives colour
of the selected word.

Is there a similar one to read the colour of the background or for a
cell in Excel ? I need to know the colour to know if the task I'm
given to do is Pending, Cancelled and so on.

Thank you.

I have JAWS Professional. Will this version of JAWS support a 64-BIT

There are different types of Windows 7. Which one will my version of

I hope to hear from someone regarding this soon as I'm most likely to

[JAWS-Users] Check boxes on IE 9

2011-03-24 Thread Tan Siew Ling
Hi

Can JAWS 11 work with IE 9 ?

I installed IE 9 on my Windows 7 Enterprise laptop this morning. After
doing so, I could no longer hear JAWS saying, Check box unchecked or
Check box checked.

Example :
In IE 8 :
Check box unchecked Yes 1 of 2
Check box unchecked No 2 of 2
When I press Spacebar on Yes, it will be
Check box checked Yes 1 of 2

In IE 9 :
Yes
No

I had to ask my Microsoft IT colleagues to come downstairs to help me
revert to IE 8. However, he told me that eventually all machines in
Microsoft will have to switch to IE 9.

Is there a way for JAWS to tell me if the words belong to check boxes ?

How different is IE 9 compared to IE 8 ?

Thank you for any help you can provide.

 Hi,

Pardon me for my lack of computer terminology. If the Firewall was
blocking JAWS, shouldn't his earlier versions of JAWS not function at
all? Right now, JAWS can interact fully with his desktop, the only
problem is that Research It is not working as expected.

In terms of merging Mp3 files, I actually find it easiest to do this with 7
zip. I am sure this is not the standard way of doing this and I do not
think 7 zip advertise this feature but it works quickly and fine for me.
To merge any number of mp3 files with 7 zip simply highlight the files in
question in windows Explorer . The files will need to have names that mean
they appear in the order you want to merge them. So if they are not in the
right order put 01 at the beginning of the first one and 02 at the second
one etc. Now press the application key to bring up the context menu . Go
to the 7 zip menu and then select add to archive from the sub menu.
Now tab to the compression level combo box in the 7 zip window that comes
up and change the level from normal to store, using the up and down cursor
 key. Now simply press enter.
7 zip will close after creating a zip file of your merged mp3 files.back
in windows Explorer highlight this file and press F2 to edit the file name.
Now simply rename the file type zip at the end to mp3. Press enter twice
ignoring the warning message that windows gives about changing file types
 and you are there.

As I say, not at all standard, but quick and easy for me as it all works
 from Windows Explorer, pretty much.

 Hi,

This is for Internet Explorer 7.

 Go to www.facebook.com

Press Enter on the link which says, Open Chat

A new window will open. You can now choose the person you wish to talk
 to.
After finding that person, press Enter on that name.
On top of the page, arrow down till you hear, View Profile.
Below it, there should be an Edit box where you can type the message.
This box is like the history window for Windows Live Messenger.
If you hear your name followed by the time stamp spoken then by the
message, you have sent that message. If your friend responds, you
 should hear a Pop sound.

  Hope this method works.

Ok here it goes. 1.) go to facebook.com. 2.) move down the page to
 where
JAWS says Chat and the number of people on will read after it says
 chat.
 3.)
Route to Jaws cursor by pressing jaws key + the minus key on the number

go to about the second letter of the word chat and do a left mouse

 it
again. So this is the instructions for opening the chat area.

Instructions for getting a chat going:
1.) scroll down with PC cursor activated to the name you want.
2.) Once you are at the name you want press enter on it.
3.) I then will pull up the jaws find using the key combination
 (control
 +
 the letter F)
4.) At this point I will type in the name of the person I am wanting to
 chat
with and repeat this step until I am in the chat screen. You can find
 this
out by each time you find their name scroll down a bit and see if their
 is
additional information on this person such as view profile or close
 chat
window. another option is scroll down underneath the chat list and find
 the
 chat window that way.

 Hi,

This is for Internet Explorer 7.

 Go to www.facebook.com

Press Enter on the link which says, Open Chat

A new window will open. You can now choose the person you wish to talk to.

[JAWS-Users] Track Changes for Microsoft Word 2003 and 2007

2010-01-07 Thread Tan Siew Ling
Hi,

My friend told me there is a Track Changes in Microsoft Word 2003.

Description of this function:
At the bottom of the Word window, you double click an icon that says TK.
It seems that when you add or delete text from the document, or change
formatting, like bullets and indent, it will show up. When you add
text, the text is underlined and is different colour. When you delete,
they draw a dotted arrow pointing to where it was deleted from, and at
the side of the document, they put a speech balloon saying what was
deleted.

My friend still have some sight left so he described to me the
above. Can JAWS tell you all these information? How do you go about
achieving it?

Last question, is this Track Changes still available for Word 2007.
If so, where may one find it?
  Thank you.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Question about Dropbox

2010-01-06 Thread Tan Siew Ling
Hi,

I copied the following section from the Help Centre of Dropbox:

How do I share folders with other people?
Dropbox lets you share your folders with others by creating a new
shared folder or sharing an existing one. Once you add other members
to the folder, it will appear in your friends or colleagues own
Dropbox just as it does in yours. Any changes made to the shared
folder's contents will appear instantaneously to everyone who is a
member of the folder.

Create a New Shared Folder
To create a new shared folder, click on the Create a new shared folder
button from the Sharing tab of your Dropbox account.

Share an Existing Folder
To share an existing folder, the folder has to be in your Dropbox
folder. You can create a folder in your Dropbox folder just as you
would anywhere else on your hard drive.

** Using the Dropbox desktop application on Windows XP
Open your Dropbox folder
Right-click on the folder you want to share. This displays a drop-down menu
Select Dropbox Share this folder... This will send you to the
sharing page on the Dropbox website

Select Share this folder... from the contextual menu
Enter the email addresses of those who want to share the folder
Add a personal message if you'd like and click Share folder
Add a personal message if you'd like and click Share folder

** Using the Dropbox desktop application on Windows Vista and Windows 7
Open your Dropbox folder
Right-click on the folder you want to share. This displays a drop-down menu
Select Dropbox Share this folder... This will send you to the
sharing page on the Dropbox website

Select Share this folder... from the contextual menu
Enter the email addresses of those who want to share the folder
Add a personal message if you'd like and click Share folder.

** Using the Dropbox website
Log in to your account and locate the folder you want to share
Move your mouse over the folder. Click on the triangle that appears
when the folder is highlighted.
Choose Share this folder from the drop-down menu

Select Share this folder... from the website drop-down menu
Enter the email addresses of those who want to share the folder
Add a personal message if you'd like and click Share folder
When you share a folder in one of the ways described above, we will
immediately send email invitations to the addresses you provided.
These invitations tell the recipients that you’ve shared a folder with
them and gives them a link to accept your invite.

Once they accept your invitation, the folder will appear in their

  Hope it helps.

press your Application key to copy the link. You should check your

You can go to www.dropbox.com to sign up for an account.
Alternatively, you can sign up for an account using someone's
referral. By using your friend's referral, both of you get an
additional 250 mb on top of the 2 gb you get once you registered. For
every person who use your referral, you get extra 250 mb, allowing you
to have a mass storage space of 5gb.

  Hope my explanations helped.

Hi,

For this 2 gb storage space, it's free. I think there are 2 more, a
50 gb and 100 gb which you must pay.

 Hi,

Whenever you drop anything into the Public folder, don't immediately
press your Application key to copy the link. You should check your
System Tray to see the progress of your upload. If you copy link once
you copied the file, giving this link to someone will show a 404
error. I haven't tried dropping a folder so cannot tell you much
 though.

[JAWS-Users] JAWS9 stopped prompting when deleting files

2009-11-23 Thread Tan Siew Ling
Hi,

Whenever I wish to delete any file, JAWS9 will prompt me, saying,
Are you sure you would like to delete the file and move it to the
RecycleBin, Yes/No.
However, I noticed that JAWS9 became lazy today, not prompting me
whenever I delete a file/shortcut/folder.
Can anyone tell me what should I do to make JAWS9 prompt me again.
Without this prompt, I have unknowingly sent many items to the
RecycleBin, mistaking the Delete key for Insert key.
My Operating System is XP Home.
  Thank you.

[JAWS-Users] JAWS and Blogspot

2009-11-16 Thread Tan Siew Ling
Hi,

As I am not subscribed to many mailing lists, I thought maybe this
may be the place to post this question. The only link I can think of
is that I use JAWS for blogspot.

I was wondering if there was a way to password protect some of the
entries in Blogspot? If it is possible, I guess I would be dealing
with html coding. It would be great if there is tutorials for dummies
(like me) regarding this matter. Can anyone point me at the right
location?

I apologise if this is off-topic.

Hi,

In Outlook 2003, there is this archiving feature. How does it work?
I know the archive will go into a file called Outlook.pst.
Is there a way I can open this file so JAWS can read the things that
were archived?
  Thank you.

[JAWS-Users] Proper way to navigate in a .ppt file

2009-10-29 Thread Tan Siew Ling
Hi,

When I open a .ppt file on my Netbook, JAWS will read a whole list
of Slides when I arrow down like Slide 1 blah blah, Slide 2 blah
blah... To be able to read the contents in the file, I need to press
Function key 5 to launch the file as a Slide show.

Question:
To move from 1 slide to another, one presses the Spacebar or the
Control pagedown right?
When I press control pagedown, JAWS will always say the following,
The entry effect is none, the slide advance is on a mouse click.
After that, I can read the next slide. I can move back the slide by
pressing Control Pageup.
Moving the Spacebar also brings me to the next part of the slide or
a new slide. How do I go to previous slides then?
However, I realised that both keystrokes will advance to the next
slide quite differently. If both keystrokes are supposedly the same,
why do I get different chunks of information, one reading more than
the other, when I pressed the different keystrokes?
I hope I have not confused anyone.
Oh, I am using JAWS 9 on my XP Home Netbook if that's important.
  Thank you for any help.

Siew Ling

[JAWS-Users] Gmail and Outlook 2003

2009-10-01 Thread Tan Siew Ling
Hi,

To Jon: Thank you for this additional step. When I use Outlook 2003
to send out mails now, when do a Send/Recieve, I won't get my own
mails. Definitely have lesser mails to clear. LOL

To Jimmy: You solved it. Now mails by others sent to me will not
stay on the server. No need to delete the same mails twice.
Didn't know there was such a setting because when I use my Pac Mate to
check mails, they disappear from the server. So thought it strange
that it did not happen in Outlook 2003 for the XP Operating System.

  Thank you.

[JAWS-Users] JAWS says Page has no links when entering a Folder in Outlook 2003

2009-10-01 Thread Tan Siew Ling
Hi,

To Jon: What radio buttons are you saying? When I control tab, I
have tabs like Mail set-up, Preference, Format all those. Can you
direct me to the tab which will allow me to make the adjustments?

I have changed the subject to address my problem.

I'm running JAWS 9 on a Netbook running XP Home.

Everytime, when I enter into any Folder in Outlook 2003, JAWS says
Page has no links. In order to read the items, I need to press
Function key 6. What is this Function key 6 and is there another way
by which I can see the items?
When I first started to use TwInbox, I was unable to read the Tweets
inside the Folder. So, I randomly pressed some key combination and
Function key 6 was the solution. LOL...

  Thank you for reading.

[JAWS-Users] Gmail and Outlook 2003 questions

2009-09-28 Thread Tan Siew Ling
Hi,

I'm running JAWS 9 on my Netbook running XP Home.

Question 1: JAWS say no links in any folder
When I am in Outlook 2003, when I am in any folder, JAWS will say no
links. In order to see the items, I need to press Function key 6. What
does this Function key do?

Question 2: Not keeping messages on the server
I have set up Outlook to not leave a copy of the message on the
server. However, when I go up to the server, THE MESSAGES ARE STILL
THERE *Yell*. Horror! I have to delete them again.
Not to leave a copy on the server:
The steps I take:
Alt to Tools
Email accounts
Change existing account
Next
More settings
Shift-tab
advance tab
Leave a copy on server (Not check)

Besides here, where else do I need to make the adjustments?

Oh, this same 2 also happened to my laptop which used to JAWS 10
(Gone now) and XP Professional.

  Thank you.

[JAWS-Users] Making JAWS read out the full file name instead of saying dot dot dot

2009-09-28 Thread Tan Siew Ling
Hi,

I'm running JAWS 9 on my Netbook running XP Home. A Netbook is a
mini-laptop so laptop keystrokes will work too.

In Windows Explorer, is there a way to make JAWS read the full name
of a file instead of reading a bit then say dot dot dot. In order to
hear the super long file name, I have to pretend that I want to rename
a file by pressing Function key 2.

  Thank you for any help.

[JAWS-Users] Is there JAWS for XP Professional and JAWS for XP Home or just 1 JAWS for all?

2009-09-13 Thread Tan Siew Ling
Hi,

When you purchase JAWS from Freedom Scientific, is there a need for
you to tell them if your Operating System is XP Professional or XP
Home? My laptop is running XP Professional but my new Netbook is
running XP Home. Can my JAWS be installed for the XP Home one?

Another question I would like to ask is can I install JAWS without
sighted help? As in just pop in the CD and follow the prompts?

  Thank you.

[JAWS-Users] Is there JAWS for XP Professional and JAWS for XP Home or just 1 JAWS for all?

2009-09-13 Thread Tan Siew Ling
Hi,

Thank you for all your help. I bought JAWS for my laptop running XP
Professional. I'm so glad to know that I can use the CD to install
JAWS for the new Netbook running XP Home. I thought if I could not
install this JAWS on this Netbook, I would have to purchase another
JAWS which is impossible because I wouldn't be able to afford it.
*Heaves a sigh of relief*
Ok, I'm going to install JAWS now and tweak my Netbook.
Once again, I'm so grateful to those who have provided me with the
solution to my problem. Grin

[JAWS-Users] JAWS 10 with Firefox 3.013 or Firefox 3.5?

2009-08-27 Thread Tan Siew Ling
Hi,

I am using JAWS 10 on XP Professional with Service Pack 3. I have updated
to Firefox version 3.013. After doing a Google search, when presented with
the results, on clicking any results, I am not brought to the new link. So,
I press Alt+Function key 4 and retry the search. On launching Firefox, I am
presented with a dialogue saying that I needed to close the previous Firefox
window or reboot the system. On trying to open websites, when I am not
brought to the new webpage, I retry and relaunch Firefox. The same dialogue
will appear.

Question: When I pressed Alt+Function key 4, haven't I closed the window?
When I do an Insert+Function 10, I don't see any Firefox running.

So, is the above an indication that my Firefox has crashed and
malfunctioning?

  My next question:

Is Firefox 3.5 compatible with JAWS 10 then?

Oh, how I miss Firefox 3.012.

  Thanks for reading.

Regards,

Siew Ling
