[JAWS-Users] Adding contacts to Gmail website
Hi all I was looking through my Contacts on Gmail this few days. I can edit a contact, delete a contact, however, I don't seem to be able to add a new contact. When I switched to Standard, the Contacts link is nowhere to be found. Is there a way to add the contacts without having to manually send them an email so Gmail will automatically store them? I am using JAWS 14 with Internet Explorer 8. Thank you for any help. Best Regards Siew Ling For answers to frequently asked questions about this list visit: http://www.jaws-users.com/help/

[JAWS-Users] JAWS stopped announcing online status for Skype
Hi When someone comes online to Skype, not only do I hear a tone, JAWS will also read the name of the person who has just came online. However, for the past few days, I only hear the tone but JAWS did not announce the names. Could it be because that I have updated to JAWS 13.0.1005? Or do you know what settings for JAWS I need to make? I'm using a Windows 7 64-BIT laptop running the latest version of Skype 5. Thank you for any help. [JAWS-Users] Check boxes on IE 9
Hi Can JAWS 11 work with IE 9 ? I installed IE 9 on my Windows 7 Enterprise laptop this morning. After doing so, I could no longer hear JAWS saying, Check box unchecked or Check box checked. Example : In IE 8 : Check box unchecked Yes 1 of 2 Check box unchecked No 2 of 2 When I press Spacebar on Yes, it will be Check box checked Yes 1 of 2 In IE 9 : Yes No I had to ask my Microsoft IT colleagues to come downstairs to help me revert to IE 8. However, he told me that eventually all machines in Microsoft will have to switch to IE 9. Is there a way for JAWS to tell me if the words belong to check boxes ? How different is IE 9 compared to IE 8 ? Thank you for any help you can provide. Re: [JAWS-Users] Any program to copy/Cut/Paste audio files, merge/split files
Hi, Thank you for this suggestion. I see Switch on the JAWS-users.com too so I can go download thatg. Regarding 7zip, I need to look around. Thank you very much for your help. Regards, Siew Ling On 15/06/2010, David Griffith d.griff...@btinternet.com wrote: Mp3Directcut will work with mp3 files. It will not work with WMA files but you can convert these to mp3 and back to WMA files again with a utility like switch. In terms of merging Mp3 files, I actually find it easiest to do this with 7 zip. I am sure this is not the standard way of doing this and I do not think 7 zip advertise this feature but it works quickly and fine for me. To merge any number of mp3 files with 7 zip simply highlight the files in question in windows Explorer . The files will need to have names that mean they appear in the order you want to merge them. So if they are not in the right order put 01 at the beginning of the first one and 02 at the second one etc. Now press the application key to bring up the context menu . Go to the 7 zip menu and then select add to archive from the sub menu. Now tab to the compression level combo box in the 7 zip window that comes up and change the level from normal to store, using the up and down cursor key. Now simply press enter. 7 zip will close after creating a zip file of your merged mp3 files.back in windows Explorer highlight this file and press F2 to edit the file name. Now simply rename the file type zip at the end to mp3. Press enter twice ignoring the warning message that windows gives about changing file types and you are there. As I say, not at all standard, but quick and easy for me as it all works from Windows Explorer, pretty much. Hi, When I try to label the mouse over elements by pressing Ctrl+Insert+Tab, JAWS said a custom label cannot be created. It seems that www.ebuddy.com isn't that JAWS friendly. [JAWS-Users] Track Changes for Microsoft Word 2003 and 2007
Hi, My friend told me there is a Track Changes in Microsoft Word 2003. Description of this function: At the bottom of the Word window, you double click an icon that says TK. It seems that when you add or delete text from the document, or change formatting, like bullets and indent, it will show up. When you add text, the text is underlined and is different colour. When you delete, they draw a dotted arrow pointing to where it was deleted from, and at the side of the document, they put a speech balloon saying what was deleted. My friend still have some sight left so he described to me the above. Can JAWS tell you all these information? How do you go about achieving it? Last question, is this Track Changes still available for Word 2007. If so, where may one find it? Thank you. Re: [JAWS-Users] Question about Dropbox
Hi, I copied the following section from the Help Centre of Dropbox: How do I share folders with other people? Dropbox lets you share your folders with others by creating a new shared folder or sharing an existing one. Once you add other members to the folder, it will appear in your friends or colleagues own Dropbox just as it does in yours. Any changes made to the shared folder's contents will appear instantaneously to everyone who is a member of the folder. Create a New Shared Folder To create a new shared folder, click on the Create a new shared folder button from the Sharing tab of your Dropbox account. Share an Existing Folder To share an existing folder, the folder has to be in your Dropbox folder. You can create a folder in your Dropbox folder just as you would anywhere else on your hard drive. ** Using the Dropbox desktop application on Windows XP Open your Dropbox folder Right-click on the folder you want to share. This displays a drop-down menu Select Dropbox Share this folder... This will send you to the sharing page on the Dropbox website Select Share this folder... from the contextual menu Enter the email addresses of those who want to share the folder Add a personal message if you'd like and click Share folder Add a personal message if you'd like and click Share folder ** Using the Dropbox desktop application on Windows Vista and Windows 7 Open your Dropbox folder Right-click on the folder you want to share. Click on the triangle that appears when the folder is highlighted. Choose Share this folder from the drop-down menu Select Share this folder... from the website drop-down menu Enter the email addresses of those who want to share the folder Add a personal message if you'd like and click Share folder When you share a folder in one of the ways described above, we will immediately send email invitations to the addresses you provided. These invitations tell the recipients that you’ve shared a folder with them and gives them a link to accept your invite. Once they accept your invitation, the folder will appear in their Dropbox account. Hope it helps. When I press control pagedown, JAWS will always say the following, The entry effect is none, the slide advance is on a mouse click. After that, I can read the next slide. I can move back the slide by pressing Control Pageup. Moving the Spacebar also brings me to the next part of the slide or a new slide. How do I go to previous slides then? However, I realised that both keystrokes will advance to the next slide quite differently. [JAWS-Users] JAWS 10 with Firefox 3.013 or Firefox 3.5?
Hi, I am using JAWS 10 on XP Professional with Service Pack 3. I have updated to Firefox version 3.013. After doing a Google search, when presented with the results, on clicking any results, I am not brought to the new link. So, I press Alt+Function key 4 and retry the search. On launching Firefox, I am presented with a dialogue saying that I needed to close the previous Firefox window or reboot the system. On trying to open websites, when I am not brought to the new webpage, I retry and relaunch Firefox. The same dialogue will appear. Question: When I pressed Alt+Function key 4, haven't I closed the window? When I do an Insert+Function 10, I don't see any Firefox running. So, is the above an indication that my Firefox has crashed and malfunctioning? My next question: Is Firefox 3.5 compatible with JAWS 10 then? Oh, how I miss Firefox 3.012. Thanks for reading.
