Annette,
I would be curious. After working in two different areas. One running my
son's Stone-Hill-Business and Working for AAA Emergency Road Service as a
Call Receiver. With AAA, I had my own license Pro running my son's business
and just received permission from Freedom Scientific to use at AAA, now 15
years ago. Anyway, at the AAA job I had a lot of script writing done to
accomplish some of the task in doing Emergency Road service calls. In the
scripting I can tell you if it was working fine and then there is issues.
The area set up for the scripts (Sorry don't know the term knowledge used)
yet if those frames have been moved or there has been an up-grade to the
system, it will throw off the scripts. The other is is the company willing
to drop back to Windows 7 where maybe the Jaws in question was working or
willing to wait till Windows 10 comes out in Late March so I've been told.
As I've been told it will be one more secure and similar to windows 7..
The question might end up coming to what is the company willing to spend in
the Jaws..
Geno

I am in agreement with you, but I need concrete information to build my
case. Given that my users are having such varied experiences, I'm hoping
that someone can point me in the direction of a known and consistent problem
that I can replicate, and then use as supporting evidence.

Annette

Are there any known issues with using JAWS14 with Windows 8.1?
Unfortunately, JAWS16 has not been approved in my work environment and I've
got some JAWS users who have been moved over to Windows8.1 and are
experiencing problems. None of them are experiencing the same problems. FS
has been contacted in each situation and has told the user and the IT rep
that there is no way to resolve the problem other than moving to JAWS16. IT
is convinced that because no 2 users are experiencing the exact same
problem, that the issues can be resolved and there is no need for JAWS16.

Some problems that have been experienced are:

. Inability to use Alt plus a number key to read
header info in an
open Outlook2010 e-mail message

. Unable to navigate the Outlook2010 calendar

. Unable to read the contents of an Excel2010 cell
after using the
F2 to enter into Edit mode of that cell

. Many problems with using spell checker in
MS-Word2010.

Are there any known problems like the ones listed above that can be
attributed to the use of JAWS14 that can only be resolved by moving to
JAWS16? Are there any other issues not listed here that can only be
resolved by moving to JAWS16?

Thanks,

Annette

After you have done this, the download starts but the focus doesn't seem to
go back to the web page that you were on and to the link that you were

Re: [JAWS-Users] Microsoft Outlook 2007 Deleting A Folder

2013-03-13 Thread Steven Hicks
Very strange, I do a ctrl+y to go to the folder list, right arrow on the
inbox to expand it out.
I then go down to the calendar folder for example, press shift+f10 and it
only gives me two options, no delete.
It is Microsoft Outlook 2007 not 2010.
I am missing something very simple here I think.

NOT the right Windows key. the Applications Key; or, if you don't have
one, then press shift+F10, or the right-mouse key on the keypad or the
JAWS laptop keystroke equivalent.

increase/decrease the volume? If so where can I find them?

Hi Steven,
Most of the changes in Windows 8 are geared toward the mobile market, not so

much on the PC.
I would hold off, Microsoft may have another Vista, on their hands.
You can get a program called, "Classic Shell", that will give you the
familiar
Windows classic start menu, but you still need to deal with ribbons in
Windows Explorer if my memory serves me correctly.
As far as an upgrade, I would prefer to do a clean install of an O/S instead

of an upgrade from a existing version of Windows.

The hardest thing I had to contend with when setting up my new Windows 7, 64
bit computer was the Jaws authorization disk.

I ended up running in demo mode all weekend until I called FS tech. support
on Monday morning and they resolved the problem.

I have a couple of questions:

1. Has anyone else had problems using your authorization disk using Jaws 14?

I even tried doing it manually with no success.

2. Everything is running good now, should I lower the resolution setting for
my monitor that Jaws may have better performance? the resolution is at
1440/900, it seems to be fine there.

Thanks for any help or suggestions, by the way I was told that it was
probably my firewall that was preventing the authorization disk from
working, I do not know if that was the problem, but anyways my computer is
working now...

Thanks again...Jim

[JAWS-Users] JAWS 13 And NERO 10

2012-08-21 Thread Steven Hicks
Hi friends,

I have just purchased NERO 10 on my Microsoft Windows 7 64 bit system and
installed it.
I am having a few problems and just wonder if anyone else is using it
successfully?

1. I can go in to NERO burning rom and select an audio cd. I can browse to
a folder but when I move up and down individual files in a album folder
list, JAWS doesn't read the names, just a graphic number although I can read
them with the JAWS cursor.
2. If I go in to the edit menu then select all then edit, the option to add
the tracks to my audio compilation is greyed out.

Does anyone have any suggestions please?

P.s. I kept getting an object not recognised message initially, until I
selected to run the NERO.EXE as an Administrator in the shortcut properties,
I found this with a Google search.

[JAWS-Users] Disk Imaging Software

2012-07-15 Thread Steven Hicks
Hi friends,

does anyone know any disk imaging software that works well with JAWS please?
I would like to take an image of a drive with the Microsoft Windows 7
Operating system installed on with all the drivers.
Some time ago, I think I tried a product called Drive Image but I am not
sure if this is still around and accessible?

Many thanks in anticipation for any help.

Hi,

I downloaded the free CD burner from free studio and I went to install it. I
got the following message:

Setup
This setup requires Image Mastering API (IMAPI). Please download and install
it, then run the setup again. Do you want to download IMAPI now?
Yes No

I downloaded the above software and when I went to install it to complete
the installation, I got the message as shown below:

(from WindowsXP-KB932716-v2-x86-ENU.exe)
ASoftware Update Installation Wizard
Use this wizard to install the following software update:
Hotfix for Windows XP
(KB932716-v2)
Before you install this update, we recommend that you:
- Back up your system
- Close all open programs
You might need to restart your computer after you complete this update. To
continue, click Next.
< Back Next > Cancel

I am really confused! First of all, what isImage Mastering API (IMAPI)?
Also does anyone know what is the Hotfix and why is it necessary to backup
the system? Did anyone run into this when trying to install the free CD
burner from free studio ?

I need some advice what to do with this. I would like to use the free CD
burner. Any suggestion and enlightenment will greatly be appreciated. I am
holding off until I am satisfied with good explanation.

Thanks and take care. Happy Fourth!

Re: [JAWS-Users] JFW and Outlook 2010

2012-06-21 Thread Steven Hicks
I tried Microsoft Outlook 2010 yesterday on a test machine and couldn't get
JAWS to read the messages when I was moving up and down in the inbox for
some odd reason.
I uninstalled and went back to 2007 and it is working fine.
I don't know if this is a known issue or not?

Not everyone wants to delete messages on exit, I don't because generally
just after I have done that I need a message that just went away. I do mine
every few days to every month, amazing when you look at all the e-mail you
have received in one month, in January it was something like 8000 messages
in there when I deleted them on February second.

Normally I don't let it go that high but I sort of wanted to see how much
e-mail I was getting and that did not include the e-mail that comes to one
of my gmail.com address.
So, if you do not want it automatically Alt H, move across the ribbon until
you hear folder, then start moving the right arrow until you find it, it
takes quite a few arrows. I do it so fast now that it takes almost no time
unless I am distracted.

Hello Rob,

When in your list of messages in a folder use Alt+F followed by Alt+T to go
to the Outlook options. In the categories list box use the letter A to move
to the Advance category. Use Alt+E to move to the checkbox that determines
if the deleted folder is emptied when exiting Outlook. Use spacebar to
check or uncheck the box. Tab to OK and press enter key.

Take care.

Hello there;
Not sure if this will solve your problem,

Give these steps a try to reset the start menu defaults.

1, go to desktop,
Windows-key+m=desktop,

2, now tab until you hear;
Start button.

3, press the applications key, up arrow and enter on, Properties.

4, tab and enter on customizebutton.

5, now tab and press enter on,
Use default settings,
Now tab okay press enter.

Okay, didn't know how to word this question. When I go to the top of my
start menu in windows 7, there is a search box. Up until about 3 weeks ago
when I typed the word "net" it would bring up my network, so I could manage
the devices, see what was connected, and let me make any changes. Now when
I type this word, all it brings up is something to do with my all in one
printer. Even when I go all the way down, it doesn't bring up the network,
it says "see more results" Is there any way to reset this without
restoring to factory defaults?

It is much easier to simply delete spam then try and find a program that is

Which operating system?
If Windows 7, go to control panel, partition and you should find it there.
You may have to use the JAWS cursor or equivalent in your screen reader and
I am not sure on the restrictions on flash drives and FAT32 but back up your
data and give it a try.
If you don't manage to get anywhere, give me a shout and I will run some
tests from here.

Re: [JAWS-Users] edit fields sometimes not working in internet explorer 8

2012-03-03 Thread Steven Hicks
Hi,

yes, I have a similar problem with Microsoft Windows 7 64 bit and Microsoft
Internet Explorer 8.
For example, if I click start, run then www.google.com , the edit box
doesn't seem to work, I need to then go back to the addressbar, re-enter
www.google.com and it seems to work. Really annoying.

I am running Windows XP Home and JAWS 10, and I have the same problem
sometimes also. I usually just hit the F5 key to refresh the page, and most
of the time it works.
Thanks,

Hello Steven,

One way to use Windows Media Player to play a folder of music and to shuffle
the songs is as follows:

1. Browse to and select the folder in Windows Explorer but don't open it.
2. Use the contextual menu by pressing the application key or holding down
the shift key and pressing function key 10.
3. Use down arrow key until you get to the choice for adding to the Windows
Media Player list and press enter key on that choice.
4. When the music starts playing use CTRL+P to pause it. If focus is lost
then use Alt with tab key until back in the Windows Media Player window.
5. Use CTRL+H to turn on the option for shuffling the tracks.
6. You should then be able to use CTRL+F and CTRL+B to go forward or
backward between the shuffled list of tracks.

Take care.

I doubt this is Freedom Scientific with the alt N feature. I had IE8 and
Jaws 13 and it did not work that way. It is just a matter of getting used to
it I think In fact, I have found that once I got comfortable with what to
do, I actually like the new way better! It's different but I can do my end

Hi.

The pirate bay site has now switched to magnet links. Torrent files will not
be available from their site any more. You may have trouble clicking on one
of these, i haven't tried it yet so don't know how accessible those links
are, if they're labeled etc.

[JAWS-Users] JAWS12 And 13, Microsoft Outlook 2007 And General Screen Display

2011-11-23 Thread Steven Hicks (HICKSSM)
Hello friends,

I am experiencing some general issues with JAWS 12 and 13 on different
machines with Microsoft Outlook 2007.

When moving up and down messages in the inbox, JAWS always seems to say
unselected before each message.

On my Microsoft Windows 7 64 bit machine, I can replicate this quite easily
by changing the screen resolution to 1024/768 and pretty much any other
setting apart from the 1900 one which it says is therecommended setting.

I also seem to get inconsistent results when ALT+Tabbing assometimes, when I
close an explorer window after browsing around a drive for example, you
click file and close and JAWS then seems to read the window that you have
just closed which is not on the screen any more.

I have tried optimising for performance and display and letting the
operating system choose what it thinks best but I don't seem to be able to
get rid of this issue.

In 1024 mode, I still seem to get windows being red that have just been
closed as well.

Does anyone have any ideas please? On my Microsoft Windows XP laptop, I
don't seem to get these type of issues with windows being spoken after they
are closed but I am not running Microsoft Office 2007 on that, I am just
running microsoft Office 2003.
