Hey, This is good news. I guess my brain thought, the mobil meant using your bank's app version, so this mobil banking is a downsize of the online banking then? Trish - Original Message - From: Scorpio scorpio...@gmail.com To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Sent: Tuesday, July 02, 2013 9:38 PM Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] Bill Pay I think it would also be helpful to say that most, if not all banking institutions, especially in the United States, have mobile versions of their site, and these mobile versions usually offer a scaled down version of the site. I would look for a mobile link, and if there isn't one, call your bank and ask if they have a mobile site. Just thought I'd pitch that in. Does anyone on list do bill pay from their bank or credit union? Also, which bank is the best for screen readers? I have a credit union, it is again changing it's online banking, it is manageable to some degree, but now I'm afraid of this new changes what or where it will leave me. So I am asking list here of any recommendations of other banking online services more suitable for screen readers. Currently, I use Jaws 13 with window's 7. Thanks for any help! Hi Trish. I use BOFA they have both a great site, as well as an iPhone app that's hands down accessible. You can do anything you want with it. I use their credit card as a side note, and except for not being able to earn bonus points easily, I have no issue. They are very understanding if I was a day late paying, when circumstances flew out the window. I feel for you with the credit union, I have one and it was great until it changed to bigger guy headlocked smaller one into merger. Hope I helped somewhat. And, I'll be interested as to what others say. Siobhan On Jul 2, 2013, at 12:11 PM, Trish trishzoellers-sc...@austin.rr.com wrote: Does anyone on list do bill pay from their bank or credit union? Thanks. I do have an active account with BOA, just not for bill pay. In reading the changes coming next month, all credit unions will be shut down for them to switch computers. They did say, online bill pay and other factors not changing, but it will all be unavailable till they are completed upgrading, rather scary thought when all your bills are paid online and can't be accessed. Maybe I better switch it to BOA, is the bill pay process screen reader friendly, or do you use it? - Original Message - From: Siobhan littlesailorg...@comcast.net To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Sent: Tuesday, July 02, 2013 11:26 AM Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] Bill Pay Hi Trish. Re: [JAWS-Users] Bill Pay
Hi. Yes I use it, not always with a windows pc, ;) and it's just fine. the phone app same deal. Now if someone higher up then I, could tell them that labeling their links correctly when shopping and earning bonus points would help, I'd be over the moon. The problem is after you click on the link say Macmall, when it says retailer.htm, well what's retailer.htm? Anyway if anyone else has this issue with them, and wants to speak up, I'd apprciate it. sorry, trish for the mini rant, again it was fine until something broke. Good luck and if you want more help email off list. Siobhan On Jul 2, 2013, at 12:33 PM, Trish trishzoellers-sc...@austin.rr.com wrote: Thanks. Unfortunately my bank in their effort to improve their web site is little by little pushing me out the door. They are starting to do strange things like when I hit enter on a combo box a new window pops up and my wife had to make it stop before I inflicted major damage to my desk. Then I was able to download my bank statement but not before, to be honest I am considering calling their tech center and ripping somebody a new one. I know it won't do any good but I might just feel a little better. Re: [JAWS-Users] Bill Pay (UNCLASSIFIED)
Classification: UNCLASSIFIED Caveats: NONE Trish: Last Fall, my Credit Union upgraded it's online banking procedures supposedly to comply with some of the new Federal Statutes. Basically, it became impossible for me to use their online website for paying bills. I don't even really know what the site was doing, but the screen was not static and I couldn't do data entry after the first payment. Fortunately, the credit union also has a mobile site, and that works fine for most of what I need, so you might think about trying a mobile site if they have one. There are perhaps going to be things you can't do except by using their main site, but you might well be able to at least pay bills if my experience is any guide. -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Trish Sent: Tuesday, July 02, 2013 11:11 AM To: jaws Subject: [JAWS-Users] Bill Pay Does anyone on list do bill pay from their bank or credit union? It's not up to the screen reader it's up to the designer of the web site. That is what my bank does. It gives you the option to turn off all dynamic crap right away so everything works with your screen reader. Yes, I've found credit unions to be a bit more variable in terms of accessibility. I assume they are getting their software from some credit union association. Gerald, Not quite true. With Chase, you need to maintain a minimum account balance of $1,500 and/or set up direct deposit with their checking account to avoid charges. Other than that, it is quite accessible with Jaws and so is their iPhone app. - Original Message - From: Gerald Levy bwaylimi...@verizon.net To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Sent: Tuesday, July 02, 2013 1:14 PM Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] Bill Pay JP Morgan Chase's web site is very accessible with JAWS, and reasonably easy to navigate, and they do not charge for online bill payment or account management. also, they all have that same message, BOA does, Wells Fargo also, it's just a matter of did they do some extra interventions to make it screen reader friendly, or just what the minimum requires. Re: [JAWS-Users] Bill Pay
I mostly have no trouble banking with PNC. However, on their bill paying page, there is a link near the top that offers to turn off dynamic features for screen reader users. However, clicking on that link does nothing. It is painfully slow to move around, or update fields on that screen, but once off the screen where you are actually entering amounts and dates, all other pages function smoothly and efficiently. So it does seem to me, that the dynamic features are still active on that one page even after I click on the link to disable dynamic features. -- Blue skies. Well, of course you have to maintain a minimum account balance to avoid fees. This is true of all major banks. But at least Chase does not charge for bill pay as long as you maintain this minimum balance. Some banks charge a service fee for their online bill pay service regardless of your balance, unless you maintain an exceptionally high account balance. Re: [JAWS-Users] Bill Pay
Have you considered automatic payment of your recurring monthly bills like rent/mortgage, utilities, cable and credit cards? Once you set up automatic bill pay with each payee, the appropriate amount is automatically debited from your bank account. For me, this is a tremendous convenience. Now, the only time I have to pay bills online is when I receive one-time bills such as medical and dental bills and annual insurance premium payments. That is because there is nothing out there stating they have to be accessible. When I would call in, I was told that, it's the browser you use, or the operating system, need to switch to Firefox or use xp, grrr I humored this old bitty one day, and used the xp machine got same results, she just said...she would have to talk to the technical dept. lol Funny thing is, when I perform a system requirements on their site to determine I'm using the proper OS/settings, it always comes back that I am. It's the yaw hoo's who run the banks that is the problem. So just when you finally get brave to tackle online banking, they go and change it all up, so your basically back to square one. Re: [JAWS-Users] Bill Pay
I think it would also be helpful to say that most, if not all banking institutions, especially in the United States, have mobile versions of their site, and these mobile versions usually offer a scaled down version of the site. I would look for a mobile link, and if there isn't one, call your bank and ask if they have a mobile site. Just thought I'd pitch that in.
