[JAWS-Users] jaws and yahoo mail

2013-07-17 Thread Judy
Hello all, I use outlook for my email at home, but I have another yahoo
email address that I use for other things. When I signed into Yahoo I always
had the classic yahoo mail setting. A week or so ago when I tried to go to
yahoo mail at home here with that other email it didn't work properly. I
can't do anything with it. It looked to somebody who looked at it that it
had updated to the new yahoo mail. I can't get jaws to do much of anything
with it and in reading up on this I am not the only one. I know this will
affect more than jaws users, but that is who we all are on this list. There
seems to be no way to change things to get yourself back to the classic mail
setting. If not, it seems this is an accessibility issue with yahoo that
needs to be addressed. I did not change anything, they did it. What has been
others experiences with yahoo mail? Again, I am using windows 7 and jaws 13.
Thanks in advance. Judy & Tallie

Hi Judy,

I use the mobile Yahoo site

m.yahoo.com

After the page loads, I click the mail link, and messages are readable, and
other features such as send mail, reply, move message, etc. are accessible.

I've had the same problem. I just re-activated my yahoo account
and it wanted me to use the new mail system as well. I had no
choice but to use it. I'll try the mobile site and see what

Re: [JAWS-Users] jaws and yahoo mail

2013-07-17 Thread Scorpio

Hi Judy,

The reason Yahoo doesn't do anything about it is because it is 100%
accessible. The only problem is that people aren't taking the time to learn
it, but from what I can tell, it is completely accessible with Jaws.

Having said that though, you can use their mobile version at the following
link:

http://m.yahoo.com/w/ygo-mail%3B_ylt=A0KjqcaaV.dRJWsANg8p89w4?.intl=CA&.lang=en-ca

Unfortunately, you're only left with a list of 10 messages you can view at a
time, and you have to enter on the folders link to view the rest of your
folders, such as the drafts, sent items and spam folder, if you have it
activated, but otherwise, it's just as accessible as the other version
you're so used to seeing.

Once you're finished checking the ten showing messages, enter on the older
messages link, and you'll get ten more, and so on until you see all your
messages.

I know, it's a pain in the butt, but there's really no one we can blame for
thise, save for Yahoo themselves, but I don't even think they can be blamed,
since they're giving the majority of people what they asked for.

My wife has nothing but good things to say about the new Yahoo interface,
but she's sighted, and so doesn't experience the same problems we do.

In any case, hope the above information helps you.

Re: [JAWS-Users] jaws and yahoo mail

2013-07-18 Thread Scorpio

Hi David,

In some case, this isn't always a choice.

For example, my ISP uses Yahoo servers, as does A T & T and SBC Global, all
of which use Yahoo servers for e-mail provision.

This means that these services also have spam folders that need to be
checked every so often.

Granted, the spam feature can be turned off, and all mail can routed through
to the inbox, but unless one stores their mail on the server, and then is
able to surf the site to mark certain messages as spam or not spam, any spam
features your client has is virtually useless, since all it will do is
simply divert any messages it thinks are spam to the deleted items folder or
junk mail folders, and that usually doesn't help at all, since spammers
hardly ever use the same e-mail address twice.

In any case, regardless of whether you want to turn off the spam feature or
not, one still must surf the site in order to turn this setting on or off,
and believe me, that's not so easy to do in this new Yahoo Mail
configuration.

you on this list are much more technically savvy than I will ever be. I do not
want to have to jump through seventeen hoops, stand on my head and do whatever

2013-07-18 Thread David Ferrin
My wife can see fairly well and she is a professional database administrator
yet she found the Yahoo page for their new interface less than an enjoyable
experience.

If she were not able to use the mouse on a minimal basis then it wouldn't
work for her either. Never the less I purchased her a subscription as well
to minimize the hassle.

It is interesting that over the past several years web masters have been
placing a never ending amount of useless junk on their pages to make them
look more appealing and now people are reverting back to a more simpler time
with pages that only seem to contain what is needed and very little else.

You can configure your email client of choice for example Outlook 2007 on
this system to receive your Yahoo mail directly in to your inbox.

Then if you want to every now and then visit the page to see what is in your
Spam folder you can but for daily needs you can get your mail the same as if
it were any other email service, GMail, com cast, road runner ETC.

I have been using it for over 3 years already for a secondary account and
eventually it will probably become my main address if at such time I ever go
out of the web site business.

will ever be. I do not want to have to jump through seventeen hoops, stand
on my head and do whatever else just to read my emaiol. Sighted people don't
have to go through all these changes to do so. I couldn't figure out how to
get the Yahoo mail to do absolutely anything. So even with my several years
of knowledge with computers and jaws it isn't enough. To me that is too
complicated. Thanks to all for the mobile yahoo site. I tried it and I can
use it just fine. That is weird to me, but I won't question it. (smile)

Hi Judy,

The reason Yahoo doesn't do anything about it is because it is 100%
accessible. The only problem is that people aren't taking the time to learn

it, but from what I can tell, it is completely accessible with Jaws.

Having said that though, you can use their mobile version at the following
link:

http://m.yahoo.com/w/ygo-mail%3B_ylt=A0KjqcaaV.dRJWsANg8p89w4?.intl=CA&.lang
=en-ca

David and all, a coworker of mine, while talking to him about this issue,
said that he has trouble dealing with the new Yahoo as well because of all
the junk they have on the site. There are so many ads all over the place

these web designers think that this is good. I do know people who use text

It is interesting that over the past several years web masters have been
placing a never ending amount of useless junk on their pages to make them
look more appealing and now people are reverting back to a more simpler time
with pages that only seem to contain what is needed and very little else.

folders, such as the drafts, sent items and spam folder, if you have it
activated, but otherwise, it's just as accessible as the other version
you're so used to seeing.

I do that too, David, however, every so often I need to go to the site to
transfer mistaken spam into my inbox.

He often broke into song because he couldn't find the key.

I imagine I must be out of the ordinary because I prefer to simply pay the
$19.99 a year for pop access and it works like a charm.

A complex system that does not work is invariably found to have evolved from
a simpler system that worked perfectly.

I've had the same problem. I just re-activated my yahoo account and it
wanted me to use the new mail system as well. I had no choice but to use
it. I'll try the mobile site and see what happens.

Be sure you are using mail classic.
You might also want to upgrade to IE 7 or 8.

Thanks,
Kurt

and it keeps freezing. Is there a way to get it to work?

It doesn't give me time to choose mail classic. It verily gets started and it
freezes.

Then probably upgrading IE is the best course.
