Re: [JAWS-Users] Turning off Jaws speech

2007-11-25 Thread Chris Feist
I'm a little confused. When muting JAWS, that's not the same as unloading
JAWS, correct?

If that's the case, if you mute JAWS and then let a sighted person use your
computer, they may run into problems. I say that because when JAWS is
running, and when I let a sighted person use the computer, JAWS conflicts
with some things they are trying to do--especially when it comes to them
selecting edit fields. And also I would assume that the JAWS hot keys would
still be active, even if it's muted. That could cause some confusion as
well. The sighted user gets very frustrated, so I have to turn JAWS off so
they can use the computer properly.

If all that's true about the mute, I'd recommend unloading JAWS rather than
muting it if you're only doing so to let someone else use the computer.
That's now what I do, and when they're done I just use the JAWS hot key to
bring it back up.

I do same, better unloading jaws rather than going for muting option if 2nd
user whom is sighted would like to use your PC..

but then optional cases if just for temporarily silent, just a while, muting
option is good enough..means it's up to what situation we are in, I guess..

Cheers, RYU.

Hi, Chris. If someone needs to use my computer for one reason or another, I
just unload jaws. One time one of my nephews was helping me with something
and he said the speech was bugging him. I got a little upset with him and
told him I wanted to hear what was going. He said he could see what he
needed to do if I'd unload jaws so now that's what I do of someone needs to
use the computer.

[JAWS-Users] Turning off Jaws speech

2007-11-24 Thread Job Hunter
Hi Everyone:

Is there a Jaws keyboard command that will temporarily silence Jaws speech,
without having to unload the program? For example, if I am going to record
something directly from the sound card and I don't want to accidentally have
any Jaws speech on the recording, then I would want to silence the speech just
before I hit the key to start the recording.

I am using Jaws 6.2. I have looked through the help files and did some Google
searches, with no success. I know that if it is possible, then someone on this
list will have the answer.

Thanks,

Do an insert v in the application you want Jaws silenced in and then type
the letter s for synsethizer. Press your spacebar and then press enter.
This will silence your speech.
To get Jaws back, just do an insert v again and speech will once again be
activated.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Turning off Jaws speech

2007-11-24 Thread Brian Lee
Hello,

One way to temporarily silence JAWS is to turn off speech in the verbosity
dialog. First move into the program you are going to use to record. Press
Insert with V to bring up the dialog. Press the end key to move to the end
of the list of items and you will move to the speech synthesizer on
choice. Press the spacebar to turn speech off. Press enter and then start
recording. To turn speech back on you can just use Alt with tab to move
between programs or you can use Insert with V press the end key and then the
spacebar and press enter.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Turning off Jaws speech

Hi Everyone:

Is there a Jaws keyboard command that will temporarily silence Jaws speech,
without having to unload the program? For example, if I am going to record
something directly from the sound card and I don't want to accidentally have
any Jaws speech on the recording, then I would want to silence the speech
just before I hit the key to start the recording.

I am using Jaws 6.2. I have looked through the help files and did some
Google searches, with no success. I know that if it is possible, then
someone on this list will have the answer.

Thanks,
John

Hey Sarah,

I have created the hot key for muting JAWS which is controlplus shift plus m.
I am afraid to try it
until I find out from you, once I mute JAWS, how do I start it speaking again?
Thanks for all of
your help.

1. go to the keyboard manager
 2. choose defalt
3. pick from the list when you tab the mute synth option
4. right click and choose add keystroke
5. choose a keystroke like control+shift+m.
6. hit ok and save the file.

Hey Sarah,

Could you please give me instructions on how to do this. Also, what hot key
might you suggest for
such a thing? Thanks for your help.

Do an insert v in the application you want Jaws silenced in and then type
the letter s for synsethizer. Press your spacebar and then press enter.
This will silence your speech.
To get Jaws back, just do an insert v again and speech will once again be
activated.

Thanks,
John
