Hi Lynn, Try the built-in troubleshooters in w-10, they work great. 1. Press the windows key. 2. Type in, troubleshooting, press enter on, troubleshooting, control panel. 3. Tab one time to, show all link, press enter. 4. Tab one time to, list view. 5. highlight, Background intelligence transfer service, press enter. 6. Tab to the next button, press enter. 7. Follow any prompts, this may fix the problem of the windows updates. If this does not fix the problem. Go to the bottom of the list to, Windows update, resolve problems that prevent you from updating windows. Press enter. Tab to the next button, press enter. Follow the prompts. One of these two built-in troubleshooters should fix the problem. W-10, has an expanded list of troubleshooters, they work great... I hope this helps... Yes, you can do it that way. Just make sure you have the latest Jaws 17 already downloaded to your download folder. Then when your sited friend returns your computer. Turn on narrator to sign and go to your download folder and press enter on your Jaws installation file. You should be just fine. Good luck. Check for updates, restart, and run the tool again. In w-8.1, this method usually works the first time. In w-7, you may have to repeat this method two times. It is a little more difficult going from w-7, to w-10, then from w-8.1 to w-10. There are more drivers which much be updated by Microsoft for your w-7 computer to upgrade to w-10. After completing your upgrade to w-10, see my text file, on customizing w-10 with Jaws. Here is a drop box link with 33 tutorials for using win 10 Just enter on the link, go almost to the bottom of the page that comes up, and enter on the download link. You will have this folder with win 10 tutorials in it that will really get you started after you download this folder . Take care. I saw nothing to make me believe that I would be receiving one by mail. I then talked to FS Sales, to make my SMA purchase, and nothing was said about them sending me the disk either. So, unless someone receives one and posts that they did, then I am assuming that there will be no disk sentt. But, was unsuccessful, because I had so many Windows 7 updates to download and install. Still having to download some today. However, here is my point. While talking to one of the MS helpers, he told me, "Well, Sir, you know that when we do the download for Windows 10, there will be a time, when there is no connection with us, and sighted assistance will be necessary." I replied, "Well, I understand at that point, I can turn on the narrator and complete it without sighted assistance." He said, "I don't think that is really the case. You need sighted assistance." Well, according to the notes from Jim Flusche, The narrator is totally useable, after the 10 install. Or did I misunderstand Jim's instructions? Two final questions: 1. Does FS send out CDs for the JAWS 17, for those of us with a SMA? 2. Would a CD be a good thing to have for starting a new Windows 10 computer, or can that be done via narrator, as well. Thanks. Mario, Download and use a free utility called Rufus. It works faster and better than the Microsoft Windows 7 USB/DVD Download Tool. This program requires no installation onto your computer, and you can creat a bootable flash drive or disk with it. You can do an internet search for the download page. I would like to know how this would be done so I have notes on the steps to do this once I'm ready. I hope FS will still send out DVDs for JAWS 17, unless someone can tell us different. Re: [JAWS-Users] Upgrading to Windows 10, Microsoft Accessibility; Says sighted assistance necessary
Hi all, That tech person on the phone was wrong. I up graded to Windows 10 just like Jim did without any sighted assistance at all. Narrator indeed worked at the end after win 10 had downloaded and installed. When JAWS quit working, Narrator worked the rest of the time. Take care and go win 10. If you follow everything Jim said to do like I did, you will have no trouble at all. Take care. -Original Message- From: Mario Sent: Sunday, November 8, 2015 12:31 PM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] Upgrading to Windows 10, Microsoft Accessibility; Says sighted assistance necessary as I read somewhere, you can create a bootable DVD or USB but only after upgrading first, unless you purchase a retail or OEM copy of windows 10. If you wait until the windows 10 install is totally done, you should be OK. Pressing Windows key+Enter, will turn narrator on, narrator is much smoother in w-10. You should be able to tab across and set up your computer. Good luck... Consider the snow flakes Consider the snow flakes, as they fall, bright and beautiful one and all. yes on the FS question not sure on the win 10, but you can count on Jim to give you correct info.
