[JAWS-Users] jaws stops talking when i type an email

2018-05-05 Thread Karen Schrade
I bought a refurbished dell lattitude laptop with 8gb ram, jaws 18.0.5.038
and win 7. It came with outlook 2007 installed. Almost everything works as
it should. My main problem is that, when I type an email, jaws stops
talking. If I shift tab, jaws will talk again, wherever I am but, if I go
back into the message, it takes forever for jaws To start talking again.
Help! This is driving me crazy! Thanks, Karen

Re: [JAWS-Users] Jaws not talking

2016-09-06 Thread Dujari, Prateek
I suddenly started having the same problem. Latest JAWS17 dot version on
Win8.1. Despite the auto start JAWS at log on screen boxes checked and working
for a while, for the past week now JAWS does talk at the log on screen both
during reboot as well as when my PC is woken from sleep mode when I get the log
on screen.
Pl do share a resolution if FS gives you one that works.

Would you believe I was having this problem with Jaws 14. I called FS.
They installed Jaws 17 recently. Amazingly enough, the problem continues.
Guess the saga continues. Thrill! Lol! I shut down my computer last
night. When I turned it back on this morning, Jaws never came up even
though the check boxes are checked for it to do so. I just am thankful I
have narrarator. It makes me frustrated but I'll call FS tomorrow.
Thanks so much for your help!

Ok, Jaws continues to baffle me. I am running Jaws 17 on a Windows
8.1 laptop. I can not get Jaws to speak. When I turn my computer on, I am
getting sounds except from Jaws. I have tried loading Jaws from the desktop
icon & the run command. I did get a strange sound when I tried entering on
the icon. I even tried loading Jaws 14, with no results. I have gone into
the run command, typed sndvol and experimented with the volume controls for
jaws. Still nothing. When I shut my computer down, it will say, Jaws for
Windows. Ok, I surrender! Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!

Re: [JAWS-Users] Jaws not talking

2016-09-03 Thread Tammy
John,
Thanks for the Narrorator reminder. I figured out that the sound I was
getting was something wanting to make a change to my system. Once I got
past that, I checked volume controls. While doing that, Jaws started back
to talking. The Jaws volume was not muted and was set at 55%. I had
rebooted several times Go Figure! I think I have a gremlin messing with
me. Lol!
Thanks again for the help! It was greatly appreciated!

In the volume controls, have you tried checking the Jaws mute buttonwithc
the space bar and be sure the box is checked?
Sounds like that is the problem or it could be the volume control for jaws
is down to lowest setting. A couple of page up commands on the Jaws volume
control should be tried.
At least you have narrator to help you get into volume controls. After
those two fixes, will have to "noodle" the problem a little more.

Sounds to me like your computer needs a good scanning for malware. I have
seen this happen before, and there is usually something infecting your
computer to make these things happen. The JAWS items are not related to the
sign in thing, but could be caused by the same thing. If you cannot find the
culprit using your own virus and or malware software, then call Microsoft
Accessibility and ask them to scan it using some of the tools that they have
available to them.

100%. When I open the program, Jaws takes off reading everything on
the menu. I don't know if there was some kind of update or what but
the ghost have even decided to make me log in when this computer is
left alone for a while. Since I have rethought using a hammer on it,
what else can I do to put this back to normal? Thanks so much!

[JAWS-Users] jaws not talking

2013-11-03 Thread Judy
Hi, list, my computer at work, after logging on, shows that jaws is on, but
it can take up to fifteen minutes before it actually starts talking. Once
it's talking, it's fine the rest of the day. I have a windows 7 computer
with IE 9, but with jaws 12. Do you think the older jaws version may have
something to do with it or not? Thanks. Judy Tallie

I don't think your version of JAWS is the problem. Are you running
Microsoft Security Essentials? A few weeks ago, MS released an update for
MSE that seemed to slow down the time it takes JAWS to load and start
talking. If you are using MSE, try turning off real-time protection before
you shut down your computer and see whether that helps JAWS load faster.
Don't forget to reenable real-time protection after you boot up and JAWS has
loaded and started talking. If you are not running MSE, some other program
or process could be interfering with JAWS and causing such a long delay in
speech start-up.

Sometimes my Jaws 13 just stops talking. I get it back up and running
quickly by doing an INSERT F4 and an ENTER. Then If you have the hot key,
just do CONTROL ALT J , or if not, do Windows R and then type jawsX, where
X is your version number.

Hope that helps! Vicky

What I do sometimes is, as long as I can get Nvda to start, I will go to
the task manager with control shift escape, then control tabbing until I
get to the processes tab, once in the processes tab, tab once, and you
should see a list of apps that are running. hit the letter J and see if
you see something like, jfw.exe. That's Jaws that is running in the

Hi,

I think that I have a problem that does not occur all the time. I am
using Jaws12, window XP.

I usually shut off my desktop computer by putting it in hibernation. I
have been doing this for as long as I have XP operating system.

However, lately when I come out of hibernation, Jaws does not respond.
This does not happen all the time, but when it does, it is disconcerting.

I start NV DA to try to figure out what is going on, but no luck. I had
my wife look at the monitor and nothing stands out.

I tried to kill Jaws with jawsKey+WindowKey+F4 (is that the correct
shortcut to kill Jaws) and I use my shortcut key to start Jaws, but
nothing happens.

So using NV DA, I restart my computer and as it is starting to shutdown,
Jaws suddenly wakes up! By then it is too late and I have to wait for
Jaws to come back when the computer is restarted.

Is there anything that I can do to get around this problem after I come
out of hibernation? Any suggestions or ideas will greatly be appreciated.
I don't want to have to do a complete shutdown each time I get off my
computer and keep doing restarts.

Thanks in advance and take care.

Lennie

Yes if you have the Jaws icon on the desktop. But the surest way to do this
is to go to the run dialog with Windows Key+R and then for instance type
jaws90 and that should do it. That is how I usually restart my Jaws.

start-up because the option to run at start-up isn't checked. Can
you start JAWS using either alt-control-J or going to the desktop and
 pressing J then enter??

Re: [JAWS-Users] JAWS not talking at start-up

2007-11-04 Thread Ann Byrne
Shirley,

aren't we lucky to have kids who love and help us? My sons and
daughters bail me out often. And sometimes I do good things for them.

Thank you for the info. but my son needed to come down and help

Yes if you have the Jaws icon on the desktop. But the surest way
 to do this
is to go to the run dialog with Windows Key+R and then for instance type
jaws90 and that should do it. That is how I usually restart my Jaws.

[JAWS-Users] jaws not talking normally

2007-06-01 Thread Lenny McHugh
Hi All,
First I am using xp home, jaws 8 and eloquence
For some reason jaws is sounding a little tinny and the volume goes up and
down. Also it is talking through only one speaker the left.
I checked all wires and found nothing wrong. I stopped and restarted jaws with
the same results. I then restarted the computer. The windows music sounded
normal when jaws started it was the same. I then played a music file which also
sounded normal.
This jaws is now driving me nuts.

[JAWS-Users] jaws now talking ok

2007-06-01 Thread Lenny McHugh
Hi All,
Well jaws is now talking again.
I had my wife run spybot, adaware and regscrub.
After all was cleaned the restart brought up jaws speaking correctly.
