Re: [JAWS-Users] Jaws Tandem
Hello Scorpio, You can use JAWS tandem center to help your friend. Under the JAWS Utilities menu find the JAWS Tandem menu item and arrow twice to the right. Arrow up and you will find the menu item for getting a meeting ID. Press enter key and then press spacebar on the Get button. Your friend can use the keystroke of Insert Alt T to get the box where the ID you give can be entered. The letters are not case sensitive. You can temporarily suspend a meeting by using insert with Alt and tab key. You disconnect from the meeting by using the Insert Alt T command. Only the controller can suspend temporarily but either party can disconnect. You can copy and paste text but not files. Insert with CTRL Shift V can be used by the controller in order to use video if desired. Both systems will be changed to using Eloquence as the synthesizer. I think that is still true. If your friend has JAWS in a different major language then both systems will need to use that major language. There should be no problem between systems with different dialects of English. If you get a meeting ID you need to give it to the target user within 60 minutes or you will need to get another one. If sessions are terminated and not suspended a new ID is necessary. I haven't run into any trouble with a user's computer firewall but if there is a problem the exception that a firewall will need for the tandem center session is for: Tandem.freedomscientific.com With the port being 12000. Take care. [JAWS-Users] Jaws Tandem question
Hello, I was attempting to connect to a tandem session today as the computer being accessed. In my tandem settings it says that both of the tandem options are unavailable. I have Jaws 17 and it was downloaded from Freedom Scientific and activated with a cereal number. I understand that portable versions may not work with tandem, but that is not my situation. Thanks for any thoughts on this. [JAWS-Users] Jaws tandem and customizing W-10, audio recording
Good evening Jaws Users list. I have added a new tutorial to the Jaws Users OneDrive download page. Me and my moderator Ed, recorded a tutorial on doing a Jaws tandem and doing some customizing on Ed's newly upgraded W-10 desktop. Two things you should know before listening to the audio. First thing, to end the Jaws tandem press, insert key+ALT+T, the second item is towards the end of the recording, about the whey I show you how to put a shortcut for Jaws 16 and 17 on the taskbar. After pressing enter to expand the Jaws 16 under the All Apps region, on Ed's computer, I had to down arrow to where it just says Jaws. Ed did not uninstall and then reinstall Jaws 16 on his W-10 upgrade at the time of the recording. Now this did make a difference. Because on my W-10 computer, I had uninstalled and reinstalled both Jaws 16 and Jaws 17, when I pressed the enter key to expand the Jaws 16 or Jaws 17, I down arrowed only one time, and Jaws read either, Jaws 16 or read Jaws 17. On Ed's PC where Jaws 16 and Jaws 17 were not uninstalled and then reinstalled, I had to down arrow many times to hear the word Jaws. This was a test to prove for best performance in W-10 with Jaws, you should uninstall and then reinstall whatever version of Jaws you are using after upgrading to W-10. Now if you buy a computer with a W-10 operating system already installed, just install Jaws 17 and you are good to go on that computer. Anyhow, just keep this in mind as you listen to the recording. If anyone has any questions just let me know. By the way after using the Microsoft media creation tool twice on Ed's W-7 computer and failing. We went through the windows update way, and pressed enter on the get W-10 now icon and followed all the screens and upgraded to W-10 that way with no issues at all. Again, on my computer on the taskbar, my Jaws says, Jaws 16 and Jaws 17. On Ed's computer, his Jaws says, Jaws and Jaws 2. Now after he uninstalls and then reinstalls them. When he goes to the All Apps region, and down arrows to either Jaws 16 or Jaws 17 collapsed, and presses enter, to expand the category, he will only have to down arrow one time, and he will hear Jaws 16 or Jaws 17. Now just press the application key on Jaws 16 or Jaws 17, arrow down to More sub menu, right arrow one time, down arrow one time, press enter on pin to taskbar. This time on the taskbar, it will say, "Jaws 16"or "Jaws 17" and not say, "Jaws" and "Jaws 2". I hope everyone understands what and how I am explaining this. . Re: [JAWS-Users] JAWS Tandem
At work we are trying to find a way to provide technical assistance to remote employee's using JAWS. I am at my wits end with IT Tech Rep's removing or disabling JAWS as a solution to a user's problem when it is not the cause of the problem. There are some issues that can be resolved remotely by a Tech who understands the use of JAWS on a user's computer. Our latest situation is that Skype for Business was pushed to everyone's computer. It is set to automatically launch and it wants the user to sign in. We have found countless accessibility problems with the application, that we are taking it out of the start menu for JAWS and Magic users. At many of our regional offices, the IT Tech's are removing JAWS or disabling JAWS instead of doing what we asked with Skype for Business. I guess from their perspective if the assistive technology is removed from the equation the problem is gone. Of course, then the new problem is that the employee cannot do their job. If the tandem session is initiated by the "target" computer, does the "controller" computer still need to be running the same or newer JAWS version? Unfortunately, IT does not own JAWS17 and we've started updating users to JAWS17. [JAWS-Users] JAWS Tandem
Tandem has been around for 7 years already and IMO still the best feature to come along since free delivery of Chinese food. Neither party needs the pro version but the controlling computer needs to be authorized where the client can run in demo mode for 40 minutes which normally is enough time to fix whatever the issue happens to be. I have been on the controlling side so many times it isn't even possible to guess. It was initiated in JAWS 10, just be sure you trust the person who takes control of your system because they have the same ability to do things as if they were sitting at your desk themselves. -Original Message- From: Shane Hecker Sent: Thursday, October 29, 2015 10:36 PM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] Which jaws 64 file do I want to down load? It's sort of similar, but in this case, both people have to have Jaws on the machine for it to work. And someone correct me if I'm wrong but if you wanted to initiate the tandem feature (you want to take control of someone else's machine), I believe you have to have Jaws Professional. Re: [JAWS-Users] jaws tandem
With teamviewer I can remote into another persons comp and work on it. However, just like tandom, the other person must have team viewer installed. Kinda to tandom, there is a code that one must input then viola. I've been on both ends of the spectrum. Received help and gave help. I tricked my 8 year old to thinking that I could use my comp from across the room. This person was using it and she was all surprised because my hands were not on it and things were being done to it. To answer your question, though, yes, I've used it with jaws. I think teamviewer is good for those who do not use jaws, for example, last week I helped a window eyes user. Yes, we could've used their remote assistance feature but I will not go there. -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of david Sent: Monday, March 10, 2014 6:31 AM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] jaws tandem hello; can you elaborate a little more regarding team viewer. are you able to use this with jaws? how do you hear the other computer? -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Kimsan Sent: Sunday, March 9, 2014 5:42 PM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] jaws tandem Team viewer is pretty sweet. Greetings, My experience with Tandem has been very good. Has the issue you encountered been when you gain access to another PC, when you allow access to your PC, or regardless of who initiates the tandem session? When the lag occurs, do you know what type of connection the two PC's have? I'm wondering if it could be due to slow internet connectivity on one or both machines, or a lack of sufficient system resources. Re: [JAWS-Users] jaws tandem
I totally agree with you that this is almost best thing ever to happen. I hope FS never removes this from Jaws updates. I say for the most part the connection is pretty good, occasionally it's dropped, but it's rare. The first time I tandemed with someone, they had the control, it was laughable my computer was talking on it's on and going all over the place, I had to sit on my hands not to touch the keyboard. Now, it's not a problem, FS has made the process so easy to get to and to utilize. The best part is, someone needing to look at your system, and you might not be able to explain the problems, they can look around on their end even if their miles away and locate the issues going on. - Original Message - From: David Ferrin ow...@jaws-users.com To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Sent: Sunday, March 09, 2014 8:59 AM Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] jaws tandem I've done a lot of tandem sessions myself. hello the only time I've had issues with the jaws tandem is? when I've connected to client's computer, and they've forgot to turn off the ocr, especially kurzweil. it never fails, when I connect to a computer, with kurzweil opened, jaws will freeze within 15 minutes or so. normally what happens is, I'm able to hear jaws, however, client cannot. client's computer seems to freeze, eventually, I need to disconnect, and get client to somehow reboot. -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Fanus Sent: Sunday, March 9, 2014 10:59 AM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] jaws tandem Hello David When jaws tandem was introduced I recall that the idea was that it would be free for a while and thereafter FS would charge a fee. Because both computers use the same IP address to get to the internet so it thinks you are trying to connect to yourself. They have to be on two different internet connections. Re: [JAWS-Users] jaws tandem not working right.
I haven't tried it but you would have to use tandem direct to connect two computers on the same network. From reading you have to start at the computer you want to access and make up your own access ID. Read about tandem direct in the help file. Be aware if you do not have it you will have to pay a one time fee of $495 ($295 if you already have the Remote Access option). I'm also not sure if you require JAWS Professional either, so that would be very costly if so. There is always System Access Remote Access which is designed for that purpose and is much cheaper! I have been tempted just for that purpose. Re: [JAWS-Users] jaws tandem not working right.
So far i have had a sighted person use msn to get my computer and tandom to get another computer to let the sighted person make the adjustments needed by a sighted person. So it can be used very efficient. you have to use the tandom center not direct. The direct is paid and center is the free for now. Just bring up the tandom center on xp allow access to computer and the vista is get access to a computer. Type in the code generated by the vista one into xp, and your now connected. JAWS Tandem Keystrokes * INSERT+ALT+T ends session and can be issued from controller or target systems. * Note: You can also use this keystroke to start JAWS Tandem on a target system. * INSERT+ALT+TAB toggles between target systems desktop and controller systems desktop. Only available on controller system; cannot be used by target system. * INSERT+CTRL+SHIFT+V toggles video on or off. Video is off by default. When video is on, it lets sighted users watch JAWS Tandem activity. Only available on controller system; cannot be used by target system. Remote Clipboard Use the CTRL+C keystroke to copy text with formatting from the target system, and then use CTRL+V to paste text into a file on the controller system. This is ideal for support personnel who want to copy specific text from a log file on the target system. Note: Remote Clipboard will not transfer files. Disconnecting a Session Press INSERT+ALT+T to terminate a session at any time from either the controller system or the target system. Each system regains control of its own desktop. Tandem Direct Session A Tandem Direct session is used for enterprise networks in a business when two JAWS users are connected to the same network. All functionality and keystrokes previously mentioned for a Tandem Center session are applicable for a Tandem Direct session. At 12:48 PM 1/19/2010, you wrote: Hi all. I haven't tried it but you would have to use tandem direct to connect two computers on the same network. From reading you have to start at the computer you want to access and make up your own access ID. Read about tandem direct in the help file. Remember that the controlling computer has to have an equal or more advanced version of JAWS than the slave. A JAWS10 master cannot control a JAWS11 slave. For answers to frequently asked questions about this list visit: http://www.jaws-users.com/help/

[JAWS-Users] JAWS Tandem disconnects after being idle for 60 minutes
Hello all, Is the issue in the subject line normal? Perhaps this is in line with the eventual subscription-based Tandem Centre service coming into force. What actually happens is that I, from a controller standpoint, receive an error message, and after clicking ok I get the Tandem disconnect sound and message from both sides. Any comments are greatly appreciated.
