Re: [JAWS-Users] Pearl not scanning
Russ, Okay, I think they may have an issue here. The Perl worked fine on my 32-bit XP machine. When I hooked it up on my wife's Win 7 64-bit machine, it clicks as if it would recognize a page, but every page it scans is blank. My wife also uses Jaws on that machine. So far, the different troubleshooting steps I've taken have not resolved the issue on her Win 7 machine. If I make more progress today, I'll let you know and if you hear any pearls of wisdom (pun intended) from Freedumb Scientific, I'd appreciate it. I know this isn't strictly Jaws-related, so David if you'd like us to go off-list I'll understand. Re: [JAWS-Users] Pearl not scanning
Steve, I was doing an automatic multi page scan. I noticed that Openbook was processing the image as I scanned. Is there a way to set this scanning as was done with the large batch feature found in the previous openbook versions. Here, you processed the pages after you were totally done. I think this is slowing my laptop down. Yes, I would be happy to go off list also. -Original Message- From: jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Steve Sent: Saturday, August 21, 2010 10:06 AM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] Pearl not scanning Russ, Okay, I think they may have an issue here. Re: [JAWS-Users] Pearl not scanning
Russ, First, re-starting Openbook resolved my scanning issue. I think the closest you can get to that is to acquire in the background. But, it doesn't appear there is a batch setting like there was on the older versions. For answers to frequently asked questions about this list visit: http://www.jaws-users.com/help/

Re: [JAWS-Users] Pearl not scanning
Thank you for replying. I have it scanning now. My hopeful last question concerns scanning a large book. I tried following the below directions but the pages did not end up in order. 1. I began with the automatic workflow scanning the odd pages. 2. I pressed the escape to stop the auto scan and turned over the book so that I could now scan the odd pages 3. I tabbed and then down arrowed to the turn over page button and began scanning. 4. I stopped the scanning process. When I started to read the book, the pages were not in their odd even order. First came all the odd pages throughout the book. Did I miss something? The purpose of this option was to save you from moving the book everytime you scan a new page. Any ideas would be appreciated! Re: [JAWS-Users] Pearl not scanning
I don't have a pearl but when I got my scanner, it was locked to protect the scanner. Is the pearl locked from scanning? Mine had a little switch that I had to move to unlock the scanner. Re: [JAWS-Users] Pearl not scanning
Russ, Yes, I have the Perl but it ran fine. When you said you set up the process successfully, did you go to the Advanced section of Openbook, open Devices and select Perl as your scan source? Steve, thank you for responding Yes, I did this. I called FS support today and they were stumped. We hooked up with Tandom but found nothing. They gave me a ticket number and said they could call back. I just remembered something. When I first started installing openbook, I heard the word error. However, the install continued perfectly. When I open openbook, everything is here as it should be. I can also turn on the Pearl light. I tried several USB ports on my laptop and different Workflow options. The laptop still froze. I had to use alt F4 to leave the program. Steve, I was looking around to see if there is an option to hear all of the access keys as you move through the menus as there was in past Openbooks. Have you seen this. I pointed out to the tech that my Toshiba operates perfectly with Jaws.
